Hi, yes it's perfectly normal for that to happen the first second or even after many times of shaving if you don't do it just right, the things to follow are trim the hair short first take a shower/bath to wet and soften the hair use a good quality shaving foam or gel and a new triple blade razor that nice and sharp then shave with the hair not against it try not to keep going over the same area to many times as well and never use the very cheap single blade disposable ones. After your done take a wash cloth and make it wet in water as hot as you can bare your hands in squeeze most the water out and hold on the area you just shaved.

Hi! I am a 19 year old female who recently shaved my vagina. I shaved before but barely and everytime i do, it itches the hell out of me. Just today i shave and i found like 3 red bumps which is really gross. Can someone tell me what those bumps are? How i can stop the itch? I have tried everything already from aloe vera gel to ice pack; i even searched on the internet on how to shave properly to prevent itches and did as accordingly but i still itch terribly. My hair seems to grow really fast too and it's irritating. I'm talking about the vagina here so i'm afraid that waxing will hurt the life out of me. Can anyone be of a life saviour and teach me what to do? ;(

This will probably be the weirdest and most objected answer ever but scratching actually helps. Yes, i know, wth right? But mind you, do not scratch like a cat. Just use the back of your nails and gently kinda like scrape the itchy area. VERY GENTLY and it will actually soothe the itchiness. I just shaved and i have been looking for answers and i just gave up and gave it a gentle scratch with the tip of my finger, back of the nails and bam, it stops itching immediately. I hope it helps!

Hi I'm 13 and this is incredibly embarrassing to write but the other day (2-3 days ago) the area "down there" was incredibly itchy, irritating and quite painful so i decided I would "shave down there" because I though it was getting itchy ya know? I have shaved "down there" before but this time it was very painful, and I think it got worse and a big rash has formed and it hurts non stop all the time I have applied Vaseline and sudocrem on the area but nothing really seems to be working and it has been about 12 hours, can anyone help??

Hi guest, what part of your area down there are you talking about, is it around your labia (lips) area or above that on your pubic mound?
How long ago was it when you last shaved the area in question?

Thank you so much! I only shave the parts that poke out of my swim suit, and I was looking to see if this is normal, or if I was shaving incorrectly, but now I know this is normal!

Razor burn! If you can, get triamcinolone cream from your doctor. It is a topical steroid (not the bad kind!) Then when razor burn shows up, quickly swab the area with rubbing alcohol, get a pea sized amount of the topical cream onto your finger with a tiny amount of water and rub it into the area of the rash. After that, rub in unscented lotion on the area and let dry (preferably naked, uncovered, and under a fan. Ceiling fans work great!) Once this is done, DO NOT touch the area or scratch. The bumps will disappear IMMEDIATELY! Like magic, the itch will also be gone. Now you can go about your day! :)
--from a girl who knows the best tricks ;)
P.S.
It works anywhere you have razor burn. The rubbing alcohol sterilizes the area, topical steroid medicine heals super fast, and lotion moisturizers the skin to allow the new, POINTY ENDED hairs to slide out of the hair follicle and on top of the surface of the skin; rather than it stabbing or jabbing the skin from the inside of the follicle and becoming an ingrown hair, leading to a possible infection (this is why the bumps are there i.e. the jabbing from the hairs which are stiff at this legnth). If you get bumps afterwards, i.e. the next day, it is the hair growing in. Leave this until 2 days after you initially shaved or the bumps will appear again, but without the itch. Shave every three days. Good Luck!!! Follow this exactly and you have the key of invincibility from razor burn.

I find that sometimes when i get an itch after shaving, it's best not to scratch, keep clean and use baby bum cream, it helps with anything

Hi I have shaved so many times but I use a electric one its like a no no but I still suffer wit rash what do I do

Hi, electric razors do seem to irritate the skin more especially on a sensitive area like that, have you tried wet shaving with a good twin or triple bladed razor and shaving cream or gel to see if that's any better?

I have been shaving my vulva since I was 18 and I am a middle age woman. I use an electric body trimmer by Phillips. I use a light powder first, shave when finished I use witchazel gently pat dry, and use a light dusting of baby powder. I save every 4 days only takes a minute and do the same routine EACH TIME. no rash, or any problem at all. I feel so much more feminine and cleaner. I have an abundance of pubic hair and this is so much cleaner and feels great as well.

You are supposed to have hair down there! It's bad to not have it at all - hence the redness and bumps you're getting! I shave every 4 weeks just before my period so it's a clean and fresh week (it makes the week easier) and although I still get slightly itchy, it's only because it's time to shave again - don't be afraid to have a little hair!
