I'm 27 and sea salt definitely irtitated my Vagina, something I've never experienced before. I don't know what to do, after 5 minutes in the water I felt it and I'm going on day 2.

I wish there was a "like button" for your comment!! "Stop torturing your daughter with doctors and ocean..." Good grief! That's ridiculous! I contemplated taking my daughter to the doctor as well... we just got back from the beach and my daughter complained several times about hers burning.. I will be following this conversation for answers! Good luck!

My 11 year old daughter is experiencing the same thing; burning after only being in salt water for a few minutes. Does not seem to bother her in pool water. I really want to know what is happening and how to stop it. That is other than staying out of the ocean, which we are doing for now but we live at the beach. Glad to find out she is not alone!

My 8 year old daughter also complains from burning and irritation whenever she swims at the beach, so she hates the beach and never wants to go. And I can't say I blame her any discomfort in the genitalia is very frustrating. I think the root of the problem comes from excessive moisture when our girls are out and about on their daily activities and the sweat and lack of maybe not wiping properly when they urinate, makes their skin down their torn and irritated and furthermore sea water is very salty and stings more so they only notice inside the ocean. My solution to this problem is prepping the skin with a vaseline or a skin protectant a week in advance to the beach visit. This will allow the skin to properly heal. Hope this works for all your girls, so they can enjoy the beach

Just tried the vaseline on 12 yo 10 min ago. Did not help. Planning to create a diaper effect with saran wrap under bathing suit, will let you know how it turns out. Second year we have dealt with problem.

Has anyone tried anything that helps yet? Going to beach soon and my daughter has had similar experiences in the past, I am hoping to find something to help her a bit this time.

Something like Vagisil will help with the itching after the fact. As a preventative, try using Pine Tar Soap when you shower, we use Grandpa's brand. It helps balance your ph. If your ph is out of whack, it may feel a bit stingy, but within a day or two it will be fine. I've been using it for years. I have far fewer problems with dryness and itching. It helps with all sorts of skin issues. Has anyone tried Dermaswim as a barrier? Also, I use men's swim trunks because the built in liner allows for greater air flow in the vaginal area.

I'm 17 years old and a female, I had the same problem when I went abroad and in the ocean, I'd be fine in the pool but not the ocean. I'd cry in pain but I found when I reached about 13-14 it stopped and now I'm fine. Hope you find a solution but it doesn't last forever (or didn't with me)

I was researching this because I spent the better part of the day with my daughter in a salt water wave pool. I had sex that morning and by the time we got home I was so itchy and irritated down there. I think it also happens in chlorine or if I add salt to a hot bath. I read somewhere to avoid this if you just had sex and are sensitive down there. I blamed the sex and salt mixed together for the irritation. These poor girls though! I would never give up swimming in the ocean. I would just deal with the irritation for a few days. They are probably just super sensitive like me. I've always had issues since I was young. It's really tough having sensitive skin. Especially down there. I've found a prescription steroid cream that works to calm things down.

???? DEPRIVE YOUR CHILD FROM THE OCEAN BECAUSE the salt and pollution are irritating her vagina. That IS the solution. You ever put salt on your vagina ?? It burns. Young girls are even more sensitive, hormonal pH out of whack and all other things will cause minor or major irritation and pain... you dont even need a Dr. to know that ... you just need a vagina.

Go to a saline pool or some other place with more balanced water ... go to the beach but dont go ALL the way into the water... Sheesh... no one suggested to stop looking for a solution ...
Know what's traumatic ??? ALL KINDS OF STRANGERS IN YOUR Fing VAGINA when you're just a kid who's still developing

goodness.

I have the same problem, but only when I go in the Gulf of Mexico. I live on the east coast and the Atlantic water doesn’t bother me at all. I think the gulf is saltier so I assume it has something to do with the salt content in the water?

Same problem with my eight year old.
Zinc cream or sudocream afterwards helps recover quickly

My 8 years old daughter has the same problem. She doesn’t complain about it in the pool. The burning sensation and discomfort keeps her away from the sea. It is getting frustrating, she would love to play with her friends but starts complaining right after the she gets in contact with sea water.
It is relieving to know she is not alone.
I will try the Vaseline and let you know. I hope we can find a solution for these little girls.
