Having a vagina can be the hardest thing to maintain. For months I been having this sour vaginal taste. I've been tested for yeast, STDs, had a normal pap and tested for bacterial vaginosis. My doctor assumed that I may have had cervicitis and treated me with antibiotics. Still no relief in the taste of my vagina. My symptoms are whitish, thin discharge, no unpleasant odors, but my vaginal fluids taste very sour like lemon flavored-good on food but not too pleasant for vaginas. -_- I am a 23 yr old woman who is very in touch with her a body and also enjoys oral sex, so of course I want to know how things taste down there. Better for u to know yourself and treat it before someone else discovers! I know every woman's vagina is different but surely this isnt normal. Things use to taste more clear down there, in fact, it didnt taste like anything at all! This condition has prevented me from wanting to have sex any more. I feel ashamed.

I have tried using RePhresh to rebalance the PH down there but it still tastes the same. I am so fed up and ashamed. I just wish things would go back to being the same. For everyone whose wondering why anyone would want to taste themselves, maybe you should become more intune with your bodies. Its important to recognize when something isn't right. Afterall, you shouldn't let someone taste you if you wouldn't taste yourself.

I'm so glad this was posted because I just suffered the same problem and was absolutely terrified! I'm 18 and a virgin in every sense of the word, so I was fairly confident it wasn't an STI, but it was so nice to know this wasn't some freak occurance from me using too much lemon juice.

My advice - and I'm sorry to say this won't be very helpful to the women who've been suffering with this long term - is to just make a real effort to keep things clean! Immediately after reading this forum thread I went to the loo, had a good wash with water and a plain bar of soap, washed my hands thoroughly and dried off and, for the sake of my own sanity, did another taste test. Already the sourness had mellowed incredibly, so I plan to just be really pro-hygiene for the foreseeable future and keep checking to see if the taste persists.

Like I said, this probably isn't too helpful for those who've had this problem for a long time already, but for the younger girls, particularly those who aren't sexually active, or those who haven't had this problem for very long, it might help, and it is at the very least worth a shot. It certainly can't do any harm :)

I hope everyone finds a way to fix this, and thank you so much again for putting my mind at ease!

I have the same "problem" as everyone else here. What a lot of women fail to realize is that the point of Birth control is to increase the viscosity and acidic levels of you uterus. That's you there are sudden flows of discharge. It is thick, then once it has built up it releases. Trying a lower dose pill might help lessen the viscosity and acidic taste, but it won't go away. Try the pinapple juice, or other remidies. This is why yout gyno says its normal. Unless u have color or odor, which you need to see you gyno, its fine.

Now I have had the same problems with my partner. As soon as I started oral contraceptive, he complained of the taste and thickness. When aroused my flow was very thin and clear. Now its thicker and flows less. He was worried I had an infection, so I went to the gyno a countless number of times. All I learned is that I know my vagina more then my boyfriend, and my gyno knows it ,medically, better than me.
Trust me Ladies, I am only 20, but I have been on it once before. When I stopped before, my flow went right back to normal. As you. Get older too, you hormons balance out and this changes your flow as well.

I mad the descion to be take an oral contraceptive, I know me and my boyfriend get to caught up in the moment and don't take proper percuations, we are a lot very spontainious when it comes to our sex life. We both weighed our choices. Not taking a oral contrceptive and risking pregnancy, or taking it and he doesn't enjoy going down on me as much. Don't get me wrong , I feel left out and that its a bit one sided, but its worth it to me. When I do demand he go down on me its right after I'm freshly showered and shaved. I use the summers eve boy wash to stay clean, and a shower cap helps to just jump in, wash and jump out with out bothering with my hair.
My partner accepts and supports me, at first we fought and he was worried I cheated on him. Now he realizes that its how it has to be.

Ladies, think about this. Birth control is changes our body, which was not intended to happen by nature. Its a modern way of preventing children. So think about what your swallowing every nite. Its going to have side effects ur body isn't used to. And its going to change the entire purpose of what a uterus is for.

I had the same thing. Sour tasting discharge, no itching or inflammation, tested for stds, all clear. Did three rounds of yeast infection treatments, oral and the creams.
Finally, I found an answer on a medical journal. it's called cytolic vaginosis. I treated it with baking soda douches.

Abstract
Cytolytic vaginosis, a not uncommon condition, is frequently misdiagnosed because it is confused with Candida. Many practitioners rely on their clinical judgment alone rather than the use of high-quality microscopes and the results of a wet smear. Compounding the problem of misdiagnosis is that patients assume that their symptoms are caused by a yeast infection, which results in telephone requests for medication from their physicians instead of an office consultation. Cytolytic vaginosis is characterized by pruritus, dyspareunia, vulvar dysuria, and cyclical increase in symptoms more pronounced during the luteal phase. Diagnostic criteria include a high risk of suspicion; the absence of Trichomonas, Gardnerella, or Candida on wet smear; an increased number of lactobacilli; a paucity of white blood cells; evidence of cytolysis; and the presence of discharge; and a pH between 3.5 and 4.5. Treatment entails use of sodium bicarbonate douches.

Hey I don't have a solution to your disharge problem, but in terms of it tasting bad for your boyfriend, maybe you should try body chocolate or that already made frosting and just use that, whenever he would get the chance to taste you like during oral. You could also make it very romantic and sexy by playing with some foods and putting it down there which would be fun to eat and also cover the taste :) Also I heard eating pineapple changes the taste and makes it better so hope that helped! :D

Hi all, glad to know I'm not alone in this.

I just wanted to let you know I noticed the change in taste also right before I found out I was pregnant - I had every std and blood test imaginable which was very stressful. In the end it turned out the only thing  they could find was group strep b when they took a high vaginal swab - it is not an std, but a bacteria that occurs naturally on the skin which sometimes affects the vagina/intestines, particularly during pregnancy, but apparently the instance of non-pregnancy related occurances is rising. They don't usually treat it unless you're pregnant as it doesn't usually cause much harm except to babies. My pregnancy didn't go through full term but the taste remained so I insisted on getting it treated - I am taking antibiotics now but after reading into it I don't have much hope for the antibiotics alone so I am also taking probiotics and some other supplements, as well as cutting out sugar and dairy for now, which I hope will help. Will report back about it if anyone is interested. Since every single other test came back negative I really can't imagine the taste could be from anything else so fingers crossed this will help.

I wish you all luck in figuring this out too - any something has worked for anyone else, please do share! They usually only test for this in pregnant ladies, so you might need to request a test for this specifically. What I read about the antibiotics is that it has become quite resistant, hence the extra effort on top of the course of antibiotics.

I am 20 years old. I suffer from a thick white sour vaginal discharge. I've had this for almost a year now. I went to the gyno and got a papsmear, and all other tests. They all came back negative so my gyno just gave me a cream for BV, thinking that it might be it. The cream ended up making my vagina even more sour. A year ago my vagina never tasted like this, so I know that it must be something. I've suspected cytolytic vaginosis but my only symptom is the sour discharge and dsypareunia. I've tried inserting baking soda and water to flush it out but the sourness went away for one day then returned. Not to mention it burned and burned all day the next day every time I peed and wiped. Should I keep going with the baking soda treatments? I could try putting probiotic yogurt down there but if its cytolytic vaginosis then I already have an abundant number of good bacteria (lactobacilli) and wouldn't want to add to the overpopulation of them right? I just want to feel normal again!

Look into completely changing how you eat (eliminatin as much as possible sugars and carbs) and using tea tree oil to help cure the symptoms. I've used I bottle of about 16 ounces of essentia water which has high alkaline levels with a few drops of tea tree oil from the health food store. I used tampons soaked in this solution and inserted this every few days for probably a couple weeks and it went away! I still use the solution all the time since it has antibacterial properties. Anytime I get out of the shower and after peeing a pee I use a cotton ball and use the solution to wipe. I carry it around in a small container in my purse with some cotton balls and use it anytime I feel like its coming back due to tight pants or underwear. It keeps the area dry so that the symptoms don't return. I have been like all these women on this thread suffering for years and going to gynecologist trying to find a solution. Never tested for anything except the first year where it was BV all the time then after I changed my diet that went away but still had symptoms. Using the tea tree oil is the only thing that has helped me!!! Believe me I've tried it all.

does the tea tree oil make you taste like medicine?

I know a small price to pay   just wondering

I think the biggest cause of poor tasting and smelling vagina is excercise. Followed by diet. A previous girlfriend of mine improved dramatically when excercising and eating healthier.

Wow thanks so much for this . I have this problem and visited 2 different GP's and was treated for infection 5 times from August last year . Just last week went to the gynacologist with the hope to learn more about this or to find a solution and even she could not help . Did the Greenfood Probiotics and chlorphyll Sp help ? and was it to much acid in your body that caused this ? Would appreciate your feedback ,

Its really helpful knowing that so many other people experience this! I thought I was all alone and when I spoke to my friends I was left feeling quite embarrassed! I'm 18 and have had this problem for around 5 months. I was experiencing the horrible sour taste and a strange whitish colour but no smell and went and spoke to my GP. She did every STD test under the sun and a pap smere and basically called me back saying it was an imbalance of the good and bad bacteria inside the vagina which can be brought on from many different things.. for me it was going on and off anti biotics as well as switching birth control pills. The advice she gave me was to take inner health plus and drink yukult (little yoghurt type drinks) for six weeks. So far I have seen a small improvement and the colour and amount of discharge is becoming more "normal" - I recommend this to anyone facing this annoying issue! I also love sex and feel seriously insecure about my boyfriend going down on me, which is sad as we've been together 5 years! But I have recently found a temporary relief from the taste, YAAAAAAAAAAY! Lats up to two days for me but some people have been COMPLETELY CURED by this remedy! Basically when you know you will be getting intimate with your partner, soak your lady parts in baking soda.I found that 2 teaspoons of baking soda mixed in a cup of water, inserted with an injection type thing (obviously without the needle!!) to be the most quickly effective. This can sometimes burn, so maybe experiment with the water to baking soda ratio as we are all different!  Good luck girls! Do not stop trying! Its only a matter of time before we fix this!

Soap effects the pH of your vagina and may even be the cause of the sour taste, the vagina is self cleaning and so does not require you to clean it (I am very pro bathing don't get me wrong!!) But soap is the enemy when is comes to the lady parts.

You know I have had this problem every once in a while, usually during hormonal changes (which can be almost anything: period, during pregnancy, even high stress, etc.). I am pregnant now and it is like this usually middle towards the end of my pregnancy and I can't usually do to much about it. That being said though, I have been tested for everything (std's, Pap smear, hpv, etc.) and I'm clean. My advice though to anyone who is not pregnant is to douche with vinegar, which they have them in packages at any grocery/pharmacy store. I usually use one vinegar and then I follow up after, usually the next day or 2 days after with a prettier smelling douche. Problem solved...at least until I would have been a week away from getting my period or something. Unfortunately I can't douche while pregnant so I just have to deal with it.
