I am 25 years old and have a child. I always get this dry itchy thing going on at the time of my period. it seems the discharge causes it as it is most likely yadda yadda yadda.. we all know what it is. Its been posted here a hundred times. It's NOT an STD or anything. It's called youre having a wet warm area for several days and youre inviting bacteria to grow. right? PLUs with wearing pads and this discharge all over you down there.... well somethings going to rub raw! my best opinion is to NOT have sex for a few days, get some monistat creame (EXTERNAL ANTI ITCH creme is what I have found works best) it usually comes with the seven day or the three day (u can get it at wal mart for like 3 dollars if you buy the equate version) versions. AND yes it works. It takes away the itching. And if youre itching youre staying irritated- because whether you think about it or not- you ARE scratching it. And also while you have the irritated area, when you use the bathroom, use the medicated wipes they also help with the itching.

I have been dealing with this for YEARs. I also had yeast infections every month for almost three years duer to hormone inbalances. I learned a lot of different ways to deal with this kind of thing. I know it isnt a yeast infection though. It is just regular irritation due to a reaction to your period. ALSO try using a different type of pad....switch brands. I am allergic to the fabrics and ALSO anything SCENTED makes my system down THERE blow up out of porportion.

GOODLUCK!

im married and i started having this problem once my husband started ejaculating in me.. he went away for business for a year and it stopped and when he got back it started again. went to the doctor said no infection, no std nothing found out of norm.. been tested for those things 3 times in the past 2 years just as a check.. the gyno said she couldnt do anything because it has always gone away before ive been able to see her.. i normally use the cream from a yeast infection box because it helps with itching and inflamation

I have this same problem with vaginal itch around the time of my period. I sometimes itch so much I scratch with a small towel and my vagina ends up really irritated! My gyn/ob doctor hasn't found anything abnormal, no yeast infection or STD. He says it's due to normal PH changes in the vagina. I've recently started using VAGISIL anti-itch creme during those days and it really helps a lot. It relieves the itch completely so I don't have the urge to scratch, and don't irritate my skin.

I have had this for ten years, and its been the source of much distress for me. I've finally come in to a "management" regimen which involves a product called YeastGard. OMG I am so grateful for this company. I don't know what causes this either and it's been a phantom ailment. It's affected my life, sex life, and activities. I went on a yeast free diet for a year and that did not help. Being able to manage it has finally given me some peace of mind....I'm 47. My doc says menopause might be a game changer. I don't want a hysterectomy as I'm a physical fitness person and I don't want anything interfering with my work out regimen. I also came upon some good personal growth tools (see the book "The Secret") as a way to help me. The book helped me some with this, but helped me a lot in other areas in my life! There's good and bad in every situation....
Hang in there all of you!
I have a question for the poster who mentioned Clobestasol .05% - since the irritation stems from the fluids that come out, how does this work? Putting something on the irritated spot has never been a solution for me, since more "stuff" just comes out. It's never thick, but it does cause irritation.
God Bless. W.

I'm suffering from this problem too - has anyone found any treatments that work? I also have recurring bacterial vaginosis and I think it's related to that, like a flare up I get at the time of my period. I've been getting it for about 4 months now and it's horrible! Metrogel sometimes calms it down but not always. Do you think it's anything to do with being on the pill? Or having too much estrogen? I was also diagnosed with a cervical ectropion (erosion) recently, caused by too much estrogen. I've just changed from micryogynon to cerazette (progesterone only) so hopefully that will help. I'm also taking evening primrose oil to try and keep my hormones in balance, and acidophilus and lots of yogurt to avoid thrush... argh! I'd never had any problems like this before about 4 months ago! Any advice would be gratefully received!

Hey everyone

I was actually looking for another topic in search engine when I came across this, though I have similar problems as well during my monthly! Anyway I have read that a lot of you don't want to use tampons because of the risks associated with them. I've found that using a Diva Cup, or moon cup (it is a re-usable menstrual cup) is handy. Granted there is a very sharp learning curve. Honestly when I first used it I dreaded the next monthly..ok I still do but not because of using the cup now, but I have a hard time using tampons and with wearing them I would feel dizzy and light headed after 3 hrs of wearing as well as vaginal dryness, just all kinds of negative issues with the tampon usage. So I came across the reusable cups and after 4 months of using one I love it! Yes it does seem a bit gross and yeah it is actually! lol But I am happy to have found it, it has saved me money in the long run and it is safe. You can wear it around the time you think your period is, no worries of TSS, doesn't cause vaginal dryness. Does not need to be changed frequently for risk of TSS. So if you are a light bleeder you may only have to change it 1-2 times a day. And unlike a tampon that they claim you can't feel once inserted (I always could!) This you do not, but only if you insert it properly! In fact you would probably forget about it even being there.

And no I'm not trying to sell a product! I just know what it is like struggling with tampon usage.

Ive had a really bad itch before when i was growing up and was really ashamed to tell my parents. After 5 yrs or so i paid to see a doctor and they gave me treatment. then it came back. I just started drinking exactly 8 glasses of water a day, eating less junk food and wearing at least 95% cotton panties. And also a pantyliner is a very major cause of vaginal itches amongst women which should only be worn in the latter days of your period. You should try eating lots of yogurt. Another thing you may try is to sleep without panties. Try boxers or some loose fitting because bacteria thrives in warm, moist areas and this fits the bill. Always remember to wipe from the front to the back when using the toilet to avoid any type of infection. There are also alternative reasons for having a vaginal itch therefore it is always wise to see a doctor to make certain that it is nothing worse.

Well you should tell your partner that there is no way that this is thrush seeing as thrush is a candida yeast infection that you get on either you cheeks (for babies) and more commonly in your mouth from using asthma inhalers and not rinsing your mouth. It is strictly a mouth infection and you wouldn't see it down there. I get the same thing too and I ONLY get it at the tail end of my period which, after reading all of these great posts from you girls, I am led to believe that it is caused by either a hormonal change during your period or dryness that is also associated with menstrual bleeding. Please tell me what you think. Thanks

Another quick question/suggestion for narrowing down the cause of this problem. Does everyone else here have allergies? Do you think that it could be an allergy related to the type of pads or tampons that we're al, using? Makes sense, I think. Or at least that in conjunction with some other factors. Im just so happy to know that I am NOT the only one. Thank you also much for sharing. It's really scary thinking that there could be something fairly severely wrong with you, especially down there. nice to know that I'm not alone.

3 months ago, I started getting itchy down there during my period. I have been using tampons for 9 years and I've never experienced this discomfort before. Now when I take the tampon out it hurts and it stings when I urinate, i kept thinking what it could be because I've been with the same guy for four years and this irritation only occurs when I start my period. Maybe it's my PH balance that's out of whack, who knows. The feeling lasts for a week after my period is over, I was freaking out for the longest...I'm still gonna go get checked but now that I've read that so many of you are going through the same thing, I feel a little more at ease.

I've been having this problem off and on for this month. I've recently connected it to when my period is about to come. I am sexually active, my first partner contracted UTI to me (he sucked at getting me wet, so we opted for vaseline - never again will i let this happen!!) and after treatment for UTI, I had yeast infection. My current partner is clean, a virgin before meeting me and it was only three months into the relationship was when I started having these symptoms. Honestly, it bugs me all the time. I have an itchy sensation prior to getting my period. It's like every other day of the week before my period, I feel the itchiness creep in. I feel relieved if I pee, even for a moment. I want to go to a doctor to see if it is an imbalance of hormones, but I really don't know how much would that cost. Can anyone fill me in?

i to just started dealing with this issue, i have been going insane! it all started with a uti in august followed by a yeast infection in september, followed by a bacterial infection in october then in november a couple days before my period i noticed irritation, dry, and pain when wipping followed by a slight burning for a couple min. after. it lasted my whole period and for almost two weeks after, i went to the dr. 4 times this month because i swore i had something, anything. i was tested for yeast, bacterial, trichimoniasis, clamydia, and gonnoreah i have nothing and the dr keeps looking at me likme im crazy. just today the irritation and slight itch if you will came back and i am 4 days from starting my menstrual again. dr keeps saying it is hormonal and im going through a life change, i also was on microgestin fe 1 20 to try and regulate my hormones but it only made it worse so i stopped. i have been using a new tampon so i am going to follow the suggestion of allergic reaction because i know im already allergic to condoms anf kotex products, plus all these infections started when i started using the new tampon so considering im clean this is the next best cheepest way to try and solve this problem, thank you ladies for this disscussion it has helped me greatly.

This is my first time experiencing what you ladies are describing. I know I'm clean and my partner is not experiencing any discomfort. I started my cycle yesterday and the itchiness and discomfort started about 3-4 days before. I have exeperienced itching before starting before and it goes away when my cycle comes on but this has been different. I experienced a burning sensation when trying to have sex the night before my cycle started. Thinking back to the things that I've done differently I had been wearing tight cotton yoga pants very frequently so have discontinued use of that. Also I had found a link that said to use Evening Primrose Oil. Get 1000mg gelcaps. I used a needle to put a hole in it and used it on the area. Because of the rawness it stung a little but after about an hour I noticed it had soothed everything. I know age is a factor and everything that I have read here makes sense. The combination of me wearing tight pants and scratching only made it worse. Thanks for all the help ladies!

I dont know if anyone has noticed but most everyone that commented on this topic are talking about tampons. I think your brand or how long you leave your tampons in, is the answer to your question.
