Hey everyone so I have the same issue. It has been put down to hormonal changes. I've found a temp solution. Baby powder where it itches stops it completely. Try it it works

I have been having the same thing. I went to my Doc. and It got to were I had to go to the Hospital. I shouldn't pee, I was crying caused it itched sooo bad. Yet no one knew or could fined out what was happening. But it only happens after I have started my period. The only think that helped was a pill. The Hospital said there going to treat it like it is ADS even though its not. I know its not an infection because the hospital couldn't fined anything and plus my boyfriend didn't get it.

It has nothing to do with tampons. How on earth could it be caused by tampons before you are menstruating? I have the same problem as most of the posts on here, 2-3 days before my period I get severe irritation, my Dr has tested me and says its not an STD but he can't explain how to resolve it. He prescribed me some kind of cortisone cream, which didn't help. I have had better results with clotrimazol ( not sure that's spelled right) it's just the external cream that comes in a yeast infection kit.

i went to the doctor, she said, that it might be because of the ph level change that occurs when we have our period
she recomended that i drink "Activia", and if i still had a problem, to go back to her for medicine

I have the exact same thing and it always seems to be during or after my period. Since the doctors can't figure it out i'm almost positive it's my brand of tampon because I don't use pads, just tampons. I'm going to be switching to an organic tampon that my friend uses and I hope it helps out.

Omg this is so weird. honestly i felt alone with this annoying situation. im literally experiencing it now and no this isn't the first time. its like one or two days before my period this irritation starts out of no where. its dry and i know it may sound crazy but i feel like i want to sit with my legs open all the time because if i close them the vagina lips touch the labia and its just too much friction. Im definitely calling my doc asap. so im guessing that it may just be a hormonal or simply period thing.

Seriously, someone show this thread to a doctor! So many women cannot be having phantom infections! I have always used tampax tampons, and always pads. When I was younger I knew it was safe to take the pad off when it started to annoy me. Now that I'm older and have two darling children, I have a heavier flow and a longer period(such is my price for motherhood). I noticed this increased irritation a few months ago, but just recently connected it to my period. I tried Vagisil. it works temporarily, but stings when I apply it. Next month(I don't hold to the illusion that this is going away) I'll probably try applying before I scratch, although I think for the most part that's subconscious. I'm grateful to have come across this thread to know that I'm not alone, or diseased(I've ruled out other possibilities). Best of luck to any woman experiencing the same feeling, it is painful and irritating, and may someone find a long term solution soon. Just another perk of a woman's life I suppose!

Did you try the hormone balancing herbs 'Chaste Tree'? It took a few months but I've had good results

Im only 18 and I have the EXACT same issue as disscussed. I have tried changing everything possible. It only started out of the blue when i was 13, when I had already been in puberty for 3 years. It hurts, and I live with it. I just hope other women who have this issue, knows that their not alone. Many of us is suffering, or just accepting this new symptom.

Live beautiful, and accept who you are.

Good God I finally found a thread about this!  This happens to me toward the end of my period.  Gyno. found nothing.  It began after I had my daughter.  It's been going on for 6 years now.  I think it is a hormone shift.  The fact that most women are getting it around (whether before or after) their period makes me believe it is hormonal.  I am disappointed that I have to go on the internet and our doctors are mystified by this!  It is very itchy and at times feels like a cut on my labia.  I do use OB tampons but don't think is has to do with tampons.

No it's not. How could it be caused by tampons before you even use one? I don't know if you noticed, but it says vaginal irritation before your period.

Hi,

I have had this for years and had one doctor (who was a young 30 something male) that prescribed boric acid suppositories (no prescription actually needed). They work like a dream. Only one is necessary per occurence.

Cheers, hope it works for you!

I been having the same problem but it does not irritate or itch it just hurts before I am getting my period in my vaginal hole and I wonder why that is, is the surface of my vagina skin thinning preparing for my period? Idk I have noticed it has happened as I got older, I am 24, I do not deal with this after my period just a day or two before I get it and I calculate my period but this pain is like my warning that my period is coming to town. I wonder why that happens?!?! I do clean myself with Vagisil Body Wash down there and I even put it inside my hole cause I just don't feel clean with out doing that, I asked my doctor a couple of months back can that cause any problems that I do that and he said No, But I guess he is a guy so even though he took this up in school how could he really know unless he is a female, Right? I like to be extra clean down there its very important to be clean esp as a Woman! Anyway I wonder why I get this pain, I have not had children yet! But it feels as though my vagina is preparing to expand in some type of way for my period, also I notice my vagina area above the lips is always hard before my period to. I know this is probably hormonal and regular but I wonder why this happens and we all get different signs from over vagina lol. Oy the joys of being a Woman ;)

Scratching makes it feel so much better....While you scratch! I sat in a bath till the itching went away. Then every time I peed I used fresh water to rinse myself and cool the skin. Even if I had to soak T.P. in water and simply squeeze it between my legs, I rinse. It seems to help once you've been bad and scratched to make it worse. My theory? Blood. Before my period really gets going I'll have just enough of a pink discharge to let me know, and I think that sits on the skin and just irritates it. After my period it's spent days in a pad with too much moisture and blood and the skin screams I have had enough- rinse well, don't scratch, and stay as nude as you can down there right after your period. I was surprised to hear women who use tampons have it too. Maybe try to rinse with water at every tampon change? Keep the blood off the skin as much as possible. That seems to be the only factor that changes for the issues to occur- the bleeding
