Hello ...
If you have itchy/irritation, use your best judgement... if you have a feeling or know that you don't have STD, I would not worry too much about it. If you're uncertain see a gyno/doctor and they can diagnose you or tell you that you are negative for testing..
Alright.. if you are negative for std, one would usually assume it's a yeast infection. Do not apply anti-fungal cream unless you are certain that you have a yeast infection. Sure, it may help with the "itch" for a little while.. but it does not cure your problem. and if you take things too far with this medication and reapply it so often.. your body will not respond to it anymore & if later on in your life you do so happen to get an actual yeast infection it will be hard as hell to cure it.
&& PLEASE do not apply hydrocortisone to your delicate vagina area.... this medication THINS the layer of your skin making it more prone to being itchy.
Alot of us girls experience this problem.. all women are different.. some are fortunate and don't have to deal with this, while others do..
....the best thing to do is..
LET YOUR BODY DO IT'S THING.. we're stronger then we think we are..
we have an awesome immune system
as you probably know the vagina is self-cleansing... DO NOT MAKE the natural pH level crazy by using "douches" or sticking your own homemade natural remedies up there..
if you have an intense itch to the point where it gets red , just ice it..
- try not to use soap on the vagina while showering/bathing.. you really don't need it. water does a great job.
- try using cotton panties.. let your vagina breath
just try this for a few months.. and see how your body responds..

i'm experiencing it now. last july, three days after my menstruation, i had itchy vagina and it's very irritating. mine started to swell and it came to the point that i can't get proper sleep because of itch. it's swells but it's dry. i'm a virgin so i don't worry about STD's or something and i know it's not yeast inefction, so, i went to the doctor and found out that i have high blood glucose level. she gave me gliclazide and a feminine wash Gynepro (Chlorhexidine digluconate). the itch and swelling was gone but still its dry. the doctor said its ok since i'm having hormonal imbalance because of high glucose level. and i believe its true because i had irregular menstruation and i didn't had my period for two months. and this month, i had mentruation for three weeks, but three days again after that, i'm feeling itchy AGAIN! oMG!!! I think i should really watch my diet...
I have the same exact problem ladies. After I shower I use some baby powder down there. I try not to dress immediately, I do my hair and make-up with a robe on to let everything "air-out" so to speak, I usually then baby powder again before getting dressed and starting my day. The baby powder seems to help alot for most of the day! I'm no doctor but its been working well for me.
Hi I'm a 13 year old who just found this thread. Ever since I started my period, and some ways before that, I've been having the same itch! I first experienced it after an allergic reaction to antibiotics, then regularly after every period. I've read a lot of the posts here saying we shoulda let our vags breathe. Thing is, I wear liner everyday, basically coz even in the middle of the dry period before my period there is discharge/secretion. I've read it's normal, but it should be transparent and odorless - basically like water - whereas mine is yellow, has a bit of texture and smells funky, so I have to wear liners because they would leave an imprint on my panties even after washing.
Anyway yeah I have the itch. But anyway I went to a doctor about this, and he gave me a pill, to be taken daily. A maximum of two pills per day. It helps a lot, takes the whole itch of for hours, and if starting to feel itchy again to take it which is why maximum two. And yeah, if you wanna check symptoms, vag is swollen and red. Not sure bout dry coz never checked (I'm 13. Still squeamish to touch except in shower to wash in which case it'd be wet already from the water right?) Anyway the pill's called Loratadine, and there's also one for night called Hydroxyzin. It's good, for me anyway. Hopefully will help you ladies and maybe one of you can help with the discharge problem!
Glad to know I'm not the only one...YEAH!!! However mine is a bit different.. I get irritation from wearing a pad but mine is always after my cycle.. I have learned over the years that I just cant wear pads, even if I change 3-5 times a day it still occurs so I just stick to the tampons and liners, I know that's not for everyone but it worked wonder for me.. My problem occurs after sex, my boyfriend and I have been together over a year and we have both been tested so it has nothing to do with an STD, if he cums inside me and I don't douche right after or if I put a tissue or rag there (just until I go to the restroom) by the time I remove the rag or tissue it feels like I've pulled off a layer of skin and is irritated for about 3 days and it goes away...I started using aloe gel it sooths the pain and helps with healing faster....Works for me hope it works for any of my sisters who is suffering this pain
Hi everyone. I have this same problem as well, which first occurred after I developed Bacterial Vaginosis due to having the copper IUD. After being treated with antibiotics, I developed a yeast infection for the first time. I treated this, had the IUD removed and was happy when the issues cleared up. However, a few months ago, I started having some irritation, itching, and slight pain, especially right before I get my period. I went back to the gynecologist and had no sign of anything, no yeast, bacteria, nothing. This doesn't really make me feel better to hear them say *nothing is wrong* because it still feels like something is wrong. She seemed to think it might just be sensitivity or allergies and recommended I wear only white 100% cotton panties. I already use "free and clear" detergents because I have bad allergies, I don't scrub or shave my vagina, or have excessive moisture. I am trying to "let myself breath" as often as possible, avoiding tight pants or stockings, etc. This doesn't really seem to be helping, oh well... I haven't tried the cotton panties yet.
I wanted to write this post to say
DO NOT USE BABY POWDER ON YOUR VULVA IF IT CONTAINS TALC. Get the baby powder made completely of cornstarch. Talc is a known carcinogen and may cause cervical cancer. Don't use it on your baby daughters either! But corn starch is perfectly safe, if excessive moisture is a problem.
I also recommend avoiding tampons and regular pads. If sensitivity and irritation occurs, you might want to try reusable cotton pads or a reusable menstrual cup such as the Diva Cup or Moon Cup. These are not as "easy" and typical as what we're used to but I have good luck with both of them.
Just my two cents. Good luck everyone!
Golly! I am glad to see I am not the only one. I am 26 years old and in a 2 year relationship with my fiance. I was on the pill till I got Mirena last year. Then slowly I dried up down there and the itch started during periods and lasting till a couple days after. It doesn't smell any different (sorry, I don't mean to be gross) and there's no odd discharge. My best guess is that it's from hormonal changes. I didn't have this till I went on Mirena which has been a whopper of a hormonal change for me (major decrease in sex life/drive, no juices down there at all - even when having sex, etc) so much so that I am getting it out tomorrow. I don't think it's from tampons because I have used the same tampons I have used since I was 13. In fact sometimes my periods are so light I can get away using panty liners the entire period. No, this is definitely hormonal.
I found this thread when Googling my symptoms, I'm glad it's not just me who gets this! After I had my youngest child Nov 2011, I seemed to progressively get sorer during my period, I presumed it was tampons and towels causing it..but this time I've only just started my period and am starting to feel sore even though I haven't used any sanitary products yet! :-(
I like many of you have stated have the same symptoms a few days before my period and days after my period. The itching was horrible and I say was because there was only one natural chinese nutritionist that was able to solve the problem for me. I went to 5 different doctors and testing me from a to z and she was the only one who cured me in a short period of time. It's what we eat! Yes that simple and i could not believe it! I am gluten intolerant. She got me one a eating schedule where I did not eat any wheat and eliminated it from my diet. Although our doctors don't see traces of yeast, we have it and I promise it works...but you have to be very strict! No wheat no sugar (as yeast loves sugar so you have to starve the yeast so that it dies and eliminates) No dairy No cheese (goat is ok but i would stay away all together) I did this for a year and got better for the following 3 years and then i started slacking and guess what? the itching is back...now I have to start being strict again but at least its not as bad as it usto be and I know what I need to to make it go away. Also taking a good probiotic is very important to obtain good bacteria. Buy a probiotic that you have to refrigerate and their are probiotics that are specifically for vaginal area. Also there are some capsules called YEAST DEFENSE that I take twice a day.
i just had my period last week and this is the first time i ever had these symptoms and it's driving me crazy. I'm a virgin so i know it's not an STD but i don't think I'm allergic to anything. (at least as of recently.) I'm going to consult a doctor about this as soon as i can afford it though it makes me slightly relieved seeing people say their doctors saying nothing was wrong....... but I'm also very paranoid.
You're most likely allergic to the products thats used in some pads and tampons. use only 100% COTTON!
I have been having this problem as well and just made an appointment to get checked out. Ive had the irritation before but it was worse this time. I think it was because I tried to use Vagisil and that caused it to hurt more. I switched to just plain old Vaseline and the swelling went down as well as a lot of the irritation. That leads me to believe that it is truly an allergy from the feminine products being used.
I too have this same problem! It's terrible!! Every site or forum I read says no cure or noone can figure it out! Everywhere i go I feel like I have something no one else does because every dr doesn't know what is wrong and never has heard of it. It's the most annoying and uncomfortable thing ever. Us girls need a cure for this. Hopefully soon! I believe I've read everything about this and still come up with no real solution. I've tried it all. I don't wish this on anyone ever. I've had this problem so long, I forget what it's like to not have it.
