Thanks for posting these experiences. I had my test this morning and I have the clumps. I am a generally relaxed person but started to freak out, especially as I'm home alone tonight. Thank goodness for the internet and you guys!

These posts helped me a ton. I began freaking out when I saw the tissue come out. I now can take a deep breath and relax

Amen ladies! I have the same thing. i couldn't tell at first where it was coming from. i had a biopsy two years ago and this didn't happen so I thought something went wrong this time. Now I can relax a bit. Its difficult dealing with having to have the test. Additional fears are not needed. Thank you all for sharing!

Isn't it frustrating that our gyn dr's DON'T tell us what to expect after? Most woman already have alot of body issues, and are partly freaked out by our "va-jay-jay's" as it is, so we could really use the support of knowing what's within the wide range of NORMAL. Luckily there are sites like this.

I too recently had a colposcopy with a biopsy and ecc. My experience was the biopsy felt like a pinch, but the ecc (cervical opening scraping with a tool like they to scrape abortions) was pretty excrutiating, and I was really sore afterwards. I was warned not to have sex, douche etc for 24 hrs beforehand, but not given ANY info about waiting to insert anything or douche AFTER- I just assumed it wasn't a good idea, plus I was pretty sore & uncomfortable. To prep for the procedure she wiped my cervix with vinegar and with iodine, I was told after the procedure that she was applying a substance "like a liquid bandage" (I assume this was Monsel's Solution) that "looks like peanut butter going in, looks like coffee grounds coming out", and she also inserted a tampon to "act as an artificial scab and hold the solution in place", and that i could remove this tampon when I got home or went to the bathroom.

When I pulled that cheap dry tampon out about an hour later, it did have what looked like coffee grounds or maybe dried blood on it, and had soaked up what little yellowish discharge there was, and I unknowingly assumed that was all there was to it. The next two days I didn't have any discharge, and actually felt like my vagina was kinda "dried up" and irritated feeling from all that invasive activity. On the third day I noticed a weird bad odor coming from my vagina, and as I was showering I reached a finger inside (sorry if too much info!) and was SHOCKED to discover that my vagina was almost totally full of some thick grainy substance. I pulled some of it out, and I swear, it looked like poop or something! Now, I'm pretty in touch with my body and everything, but ladies, I nearly had a panic attack as I frantically scooped out as much of that crazy stuff as I could, FREAKING out as to what the heck was inside of my body, and if i had some bad reaction or infection or something. It didn't smell quite like a vaginal infection, but had a weird gross metallic/medical smell mixed with old tampon smell. I was so horrified that I immediately douched- the homemade hot water bottle type, with a gentle dilluted mix of hot water, hydrogen peroxide and a little vinegar (it's an effective DIY douche for vaginal infections, but research the recipe &/or ask your Dr. before trying). Now that I've researched, I see that they recommend you DON'T douche or insert fingers or anything for a week, but even if I had known this ahead of time I don't think I could've stopped myself from washing it out!

I couldn't BELIEVE what came out of me as I douched- it looked for all the world like an exploded miscarriage! (I have never been pregnant or anything) More of that brown substance, dark bloody looking chunks, what looked like a ripped off piece of that cheap tampon, and scads of... TISSUE, like-  skin, flesh,- literal chunks pouring out. Absolutely horrifying. I came online and found a bunch of sites like this one and plenty of women who have all had a similar experience, thank god! After researching, my best educated guess is that the giant mass of "poop looking peanut butter" is the Monsel's solution or whatever "liquid bandage" was applied ("looks like coffee grounds coming out", my @$$!!!!) The little dark pieces were probably scabs/blood, or the dried up Monsel's solution. The skin chunks were actually skin from the vagina and cervix- apparently the straight vinegar can cause irritation which sheds the skin off (and all the invasive activity in there, I'm sure!), and mixed with all of this is your vagina's normal mucous and discharge, that's probably amped up to way more than average due to all the foreign matter and irritation.

So all the c**p that's in there & coming out is PERFECTLY NORMAL. So WHY didn't any of our Dr's warn us "you may find what looks like poop coming out of your vagina, don't panic!" It woulda been helpful! When my Dr said she was applying a "liquid bandage" type solution, I thought it was literally that, like, a painted on thin layer of liquid, not a tampon sized chunk of disgusting paste. I did NOT expect it to look like I was having a dang miscarriage in my shower, and especially days after a kinda scary procedure, you're already feeling a little nervous and whatnot. Jeez!

Jeez Louise. I really can't believe how honest and open the posts on this topic are, and how covert doctors are about the after effects of the colposcopy procedure.  It appears that almost everyone who has had this test had some sort of horrific discharge that obviously makes them feel like a freak.  Hello!  Vaginas are already little surprise factories that do weird stuff people barely understand.  Which is why we get tests like colposcopys.  So: you know there is already something potentially funny going on in there, and have to go get a procedure, then suddenly something terribly abnormal looking comes crawling out of you.  Of course the first response is:  I am a freak.  There is something wrong with me.  My body responded abnormally.  These are all normal female responses.   Let's not even get into the kind of things men would do if they had to endure stuff like this.  So thank you ladies for sharing your tales, because I think I might have died from embarrassment and shock if I didn't find this post.

THEY NEED TO TELL US A LOT MORE.  I had a colposcopy 5 days ago.  And my entire procedure was very painful.  I am very small down there and the speculum itself hurts.  But then as things went on I could feel a lot of really irritating and painful sensations.  I informed the doctor and the nurse of this and they were quite surprised.  All they warned me about after was to maybe wear panty liners for a few days because there might be some bleeding.  When they said this I was already concerned.  The procedure did leave me feeling very violated and like some other people I've seen mention in their posts, I cried when I was alone in the room after.  In the two days that followed I saw a small amount of dark grainy things coming out of me, which I assumed was the blood they warned me about.  This itself was kind of scary because THE REASON I had the procedure was because I had bled frequently during and after sex.  I'm 28 and all this bleeding during sex made me feel really embarrassed.  This basically ruined my romantic life.  But I must say that I am quite happy that I had no "special someone" in my life around the time of this procedure.  Because if someone else had to deal with or come in contact with the stuff happening to me as a result of the test..... oh my God.  The third day after the procedure a 2 inch wide and 4 inch long flat ribbon of tissue looking material was sticking out of me, so naturally, I pulled that thing out!  I hoped this was normal and just a result of the Monsel's.  However, tonight was the fifth day after my procedure.  I knew I was going to have a long day and was worried that the panty liner wouldn't be enough, so I stupidly put in a tampon earlier in the evening.  I WAS GIVEN NO WARNING NOT TO INSERT THINGS INTO MY VAGINA.  When I pulled the tampon out, a hand-sized flat clump of flesh colored stuff came out, along with clumps of black and brown chunks that I could barely look at.  I am NOT SQUEAMISH.  But this experience is freakishly unnatural.  I could not believe my eyes.  This post and others helped me stop freaking out.  However,  more pieces keep coming out and I am having a lot of pain.  The inside of my vagina feels like it's on fire.  There should be an entire manual or handout that you are given when you go get a colposcopy.  I don't know what's normal anymore.  But I'm really angry, and feel like I really can't trust doctors in general.  If I get any procedures or tests in the future, I will treat them the same way I treat medicines I'm prescribed, and read about them at length online.

Don't rely on your doctor!  Read as much as you can about what will be done to your body before you take anything or let someone do something to you!  And don't rely on word of mouth either.  I asked someone in their 50's if they've had the procedure, and they told me: "Yes, it's slightly uncomfortable, but you'll be fine".  Of course they wouldn't candidly tell me, oh yeah, P.S. Tissues and doody will come out of your vagina after.

Stay strong ladies.

Wow! I am glad I found this discussion! Same stuff happened to me. Had the colposcopy/biopsy done a few days ago, felt extremely uniformed and unprepared for the process. Cried and felt super crampy and sick afterwards. Day 2 after the procedure I passed some thing about 2in long, some old blood with it, also looked like old clumped up paper or membrane. So releived to know what this is now. Freaked me the heck out!! They should really mention this at the doctors! Not a fun thing to experience.

Thanks for the help and info everyone!! Best of luck to all.

I seriously don't understand why our doctors never mentioned the fact that a giant wad of vagina will fall out a few days after but don't worry... I just wish I read this before I had my fiance look at it... and before I reached my hand in the toilet to see if it was paper... doctors are lame!

ugh.. thank goodness.. i have had little pieces of what looked like wet light brown paper inside my vagina (and yes, i freaked out so bad, i was trying to pull it out... ew, i know). I wasnt sure if there was a cotton ball/paper stuck inside, when i took a closer look, it seemed like thin skin tissue. So I was wondering if the lining of my vagina was coming out. If that is what happens due to the vinegar solution, they should let us know. I've had a cervical biopsy before, and had not experienced this. So right now, this light brown/yellow skin is hanging out in my vagina and it's slightly itchy and smells kind of bad as well. as long as all you ladies are experiencing this or similar to this, i will stop thinking my vagina is falling apart :( just sucks is all

God bless this forum.  Just flipped the heck out in my bathroom when a flat wad of brainy-looking tissue the size of two fingers started coming out.  My first thought was "Oh s***, uterine prolapse!"  Then I started Googling...  Waiting for my doctor's nurse to return my call, and when she does I will very politely ask why they don't warn about this scary experience. :(
