Hope this works for you. Any ideas for a 70 year old man with the same headache?

I'm female, 16 and I have been getting these headache’s for 3-4 years now. They are like short bursts of pressure headaches that last for 15-30 sec. It’s like someone is hitting me with too much pressure. Sometimes my head also feels heavy afterwards, and I shake allot. They come anytime of the day, however they want. I have spoken to the doctor like 3 times but he and my mum keep saying its stress or because I’m looking at a screen too often. They say I should take paracetamol but they don’t understand that I can’t because it doesn't last so it wouldn't be any use. I get it on the top of my head, in the middle and the back, but separately - so left sometimes and then right other times. It really scares me now; I really want to know why it’s happening to me. I'm going to see an optician tomorrow to talk about the headaches so hopefully they can give me answer. I have been many times to see them and they just keep saying that it's just because I wear glasses. I started wearing my glasses about a year before the headaches started.

What I don’t understand is why nearly all of us on here are very young and are getting these pains. We can’t just be told to live it, sometimes I end up in tears because of how painful they are.

I say you should right down the time and date of when these headaches happen (this is what I have started doing), just encase you find an pattern. Go and see a doctor and optician – brag about the pain to, and tell them how worried you are, this is the only way they will take some type of action hopefully.

I'm 43, male..  I started having migraines & bad headaches at age 9 maybe once or twice a week.. around 18 yrs old they was 3 to 4+ times a week.. by age 22 I looked like a raccoon.. by 25 yrs old Dr Hallie Bell, Methodist Neuro Ridgeland MS got rid of them with an " overdose Treatment ".. over 3 to 6 months it made me sick as a dog but got me down to 1 to 3 PER YEAR !!

Now.. the past 2 weeks I started having 5 to 10 second ice pick headaches -1- time a day on the top right of my head.. EVERY MORNING and sometimes at night..   This morning it wasn't on the top right, but the back left bottom.. only time that happened.

In the past some of my migraines would start on the back rear bottom center half dollar size stabbing headache that wouldn't go away and would circle my head..  so that scared me a bit.

I'm 35 and just started having these very short frequent headaches. I've never had a migraine or any headache condition (not counting a hangover or being sick). Mine are significantly shorter than most mentioned here, 3-4 seconds of sharp pain followed by relief. They seem completely random and I get several per hour then might go a few hours without one. I tried Advil, sleep, sitting in the dark, and i tried cutting caffeine, alcohol, sugar, meat... The usual headache culprits.

Great information but I don't think it's wise to advise teenage girls to apply a hormonal cream to their bodies without their mother's approval and unsupervised. Not trying to be negative but this practice can get out of hand. Certain female hormones can lead to ovarian and breast cancers that feed on hormones if they are at risk for them. Most teenage girls don't know if they are at risk.

I'm only about 13 and a half. I have the same types of headaches but they last for about 30 seconds and leave a dull throb for the rest of the day. My mom knows, but doesn't know if she should take me to the doctor, her being a nurse herself. Are my headaches the same thing (ice pick headaches) or something entirely different that I should get checked out?

Hi all,
It's been a few years since I posted by original comment here and I thought I'd update you.

While the hormonal cream did seem to help me, I discovered that the cause something totally different: a deficiency in magnesium.

If I take magnesium supplements periodically, I don't get these headaches at all. In fact, I haven't had one in so long I'm not sure how long it's been -- 4 months, even 6 months, or maybe even longer.

Next time you get one of thee painful, short, headaches, try taking some magnesium. If this is the cause of your headaches, your headache won't come back as often, or severity of the headaches will lessen.

There are two formulations of magnesium supplements: softgels and tablets. I found the softgets to absorb better (really helpful when I'm actually experiencing a headache, as opposed to simply prevent them).

Don't go over the recommend dosage for magnesium without the supervision of a doctor (but standard dosages should help you, if this is the cause of your problem).

I had same thing and today Dr. says it may be muscle spams. He told me to take a muscle relax pill and see if the helps first.

Hello , I am 62 year old male that has suffered from ICE PICK SYNDROME since I was 13. When the pain hits it is the worst terrific pain that is actually a nerve seizure in the brain for 10 to 30 seconds, and can occur several in a row. I have been to the best neurologist in the country and they have directed me how to minimize the occurrence of the events.
The nerve is excited by several substances CAFFEINE in Mountain dew, coke cola, pepsi. Caffeine in coffee and also in chocolate, yes chocolate.
The second substance is Alcoholic beverages. This is a very serious condition that should be taken serious by those parents with children suffering from this brain nerve condition.
The physicians "neurologist" prescribed GABAPENTIN , 300 milligrams and it works for me.
I feel a little worn like twitch in my temple before an event happens and will immediately take up to 1,200 MG at the first event. See a neurologist and don't suffer, consult a neurologist like Doctor Thomas Snyder ,Jacksonville Baptist Hospital for a consultation for yourself or child.

Can you supply the doctor and the facility that performed the surgery, I have suffered for over 50 years with the condition and have not found a surgeon to perform the procedure.

I am 13 years old and I literally get headaches everyday. I'm commenting on this because not too long ago I just had a very short, painful migraine. It was so painful that I winced and let out a little scream. I'm not sure if it's something, but I have been getting headaches for a while now, but these ice pick headaches just started. It scares me to look up what it would mean because every time I do it says it's either "a tumor" or "bleeding around my brain". I don't know if I need to go to a doctor or not but I really hope it's not anything too extreme.

Yes Jimmy, some time has certainly passed since your comment, but after several years of such headaches, also came to realize that I'm easily dehydrated. Among my symptoms, these same headaches were a daily occurrence and were easily subsided with a glass or 2 of lemony water, within minutes....and no pain pills!
To this day, I still drink several glasses a day and rarely get 'assaulted' by the sharp pain / short headaches anymore.

I'm 17 and I have been having very painful almost disorientating headaches which last for like 5 seconds and occur randomly. I get them at the back top right corner of my head where I have hit my head a few times including a 7 kilo block of wood falling from 1.5m directly on my head which I think might be related because I only started getting the head aches after. They occur between 2 weeks and 4 weeks inbetween. I'm unsure whether this is also related but I get dizzy spells where I almost pass-out. The first time I went to the doctors they said go to the opticians which gave me some glasses but I still get them.
