Has anyone experienced WEIGHT GAIN after getting their tubes tied???? HELP!
How long has it been and what's your age? I had mine done several years ago and I have gained weight since my surgery in 2002.
I didn't gain much weight throughout my pregancy, after I had the baby I had a tubal ligation and since then I have gained ALOT of weight.
After being thin my whole life, I gained 20 kilos in the year after my tubal ligation. Despite cutting food intake to very small levels, I can't seem to shake it (I went to a dietitian for weight loss and she said my calorie intake was too low -- and she wanted me to eat more, so I quit seeing her).
I've also had *intermittant* essential hypertension (which I have been told by specialists is very strange, since it should be one thing or another, but not 130/60 one day and 200/110 a week later), and an ovarian hemmorage since having this procedure.
In fact, if I think about it, after being healthy for 38 years, I have had a medical crisis about ever two years since that surgery.
So I have been wondering about "tubal ligation syndrome"... whether there is anything people who are hormonally challenged can do to lose weight (I have a desk job but am relatively active), and what other things I seem to have unknowingly signed up for.
And also that I'm not the only one.

I am 23 and had a tubal after my 2nd child in oct of 2007. Now I dropped weight after I had my daughter but soon gained a lot of it back, I blamed most of it on being at home and not eating right. However, I notices most of the weight gain after the tubal. Not only have I gained weight but I am exercising two times a day and weight watchers and not eating after 8 pm. I drink 4 15 oz glasses of water a day, I am on it for the long hall yet, I don't think too much has changed besides I am probably much healthier. I am not giving up but getting a little upset at the hard work I am putting in. However, I am not too far into the diet so we will see I just expected to see more of a result because of how dedicated I am. I am already having other complications other than this excessive weight gain...and i tend to hide out and not want to be seen by even closest of friends, im just upset over it but still so determined...
I have gained alot of weight since my tubal in 04. I have always been very small and petite weighing no more than 115 at max unless pregnant. And as a shocker to all I have 8 children and was still this small afterwards, until my tubal. I had the procedure done when my baby was 6 weeks old and I was weighing 130 ( 188 at birth ) in 2 days after ny surgery I weighed a huge hefty 170. 40 lbs and not pregnant, I have tried everything under the sun from diets to excercise. The only time I could lose some was from hardly eatting enough food for 1 toddler meal and I couldn't keep like that. I was 175 and got down to 128 in 4 months. Here it is almost 4 months later and I'm back up to 155. I have a diet with NO bread, potatoes or junk food only rich in fruits, some vegies, yogurts and diet snacks/meals and nothing has helped. I am actually looking into getting them untied to lose weight. I don't know how much it has effected your emotions but it makes me depressed alot knowing I can't lose weight. Used to be size 1, now I'm a size 6 and going back to size 12 I feel.
:-( I gained weight after my tubal. I was always a size 3 and after my third child and the tubal I gained alot of weight. I feel it is from the tubal.
Yes! I got my tubes tied and i packed on 30 pounds with in the following year of getting them tied! I have tried dieting, diet pills, wu yi tea and walking 2-3 miles a day and i havnt lost a single pound! :( I really and starting to blame the tubal!
I have always been 100lbs not prago i had 2 kids and my weight went back then i had my 3rd baby and i lost the weight but last a year and back to my 100lbs i was still losing weight. im at 90lbs right Doctor say im healthy.. i have been doing research on getting my tubes tied cause after 3 kids 1 boy and 2 girls im done. my life has been for fulled. i'm hoping after i do get my tubes tied that i will gain 30lbs . how much have you gained.?
Me too. Never had weight problems until after the tubal. Weight seems to be all in my belly.
I too have experienced weight gain after having tubes tied 4 years ago. my weight has always been around 110. After 1st two children I lost weight extremely fast after giving birth, however after having my third child (Had tubes tied day after his birth) I weight an astonishing 160! My entire family is in shock at what I weigh. Not used to seeing me this heavy. I have done every diet and exercise program available. No weight loss. Weight seems to be all in my mid section. Would have never had have tubes tied if I would have known this. Would have made my husband go under the knife!!!
I had a tubal ligation after my 3rd child. Nothing in my lifestyle changed. A week after the surgery, I called the Dr. and told him I was putting on weight like crazy. He said it had nothing to do with the surgery. Well in 6 months, I put on 50 pounds. My 3rd child is now 25 years old and I still carry that 50 lbs plus 30 more of what I would consider "normal" weight gain. Then you have all the other health issues that go along with being overweight and the astronomical prescription expense. Don't listen to any Dr. that says it won't happen. I know about 5 other women that had the same thing happen. It happens to dogs, why can't it happen to us? Although it doesn't to the majority of women, it is a possibility and it will change your life FOREVER. I HATE being fat. Some of these Dr.'s are more interested in their pocket book than in our well being. And now that I'm going thru menopause, I have even more to look forward to.
Along with the weight gain there is potential for a host of medical issues. Hypertension, Sleep Apnea, joint replacement, etc...
I have never heard of weight gain happening to men. If I had it to do over again, I would insist on my husband doing it and cut him off till he did. Men are such selfish wimps. We go thru 9 months of pregnancy AND give birth. The least they could do is a 20 minute procedure so they can practice birth control for a change. I had a woman Dr. that agree with me that tubal ligation can cause weight gain, but she didn't believe a reversal would change anything. She said "the damage is done." Yes, I am angry, but it doesn't make the stubborn fat go away.
I get so irritated. People tell you to change your eating or exercise. They have no clue and they are usually skinny people. My husband eats anything he wants, anytime he wants and remains thin. I am active, eat healthy, and am fat. I wish there were someone, something that could help us. I can truly say, I understand your pain.
If anyone finds a solution, PLEASE share it.

I WAS TOLD BY MY DOCTOR AND NURSES YOU CANNOT GET THE TUBAL REVERSED. THEY DIDN'T MENTION THE PROBLEMS HAVE WITH GAINING WEIGHT!!! I'M SO DEPRESSED!
I had my tubal over 2 years ago and have been putting on weight. I was 115 lbs before I had the procedure now I am almost 20 heavier. I had not choice to have 1 ovary removed since I had a cyst, so when the doctor asked if I was planning on having more kids I thought this would be the prime opportunity to get it done. I wish I had read more on it to know the side effects. I am not happy with how I look and I'm not a bad eater. I even tried the treadmill for almost 2 months and didn't lose even 1 lb. I gave up on that. Now what? I don't want to keep packing on the pounds.
I have gained 20 pounds after my TL. I hate it and can't seem to lose any weight. I exercise too. I can't believe I can gain three pounds in two weeks. Why does this happen and how can I lose the weight??
