I had never really thought about a weight gain being caused from the TL.. Before having my daughter I weighed around 115, after I had her I got down to about 105 ,after only gaining 35 lbs with her. Then I became pregnant with my son 2 yrs later - I only gained 25-30 lbs with him. I had my tubes tied the day after he was born . This was in March 1999. the doctors told me about no side affects . But then again, they also said the pain from getting them tied would just feel like a pulled stomach muscle - YEAH RIGHT! I was in more pain from that than I ever was from giving birth. That was 11 years ago, but I have suffered with issues I never had before ever since then - My periods are alot heavier than ever before, and the cramps sometimes are almost unbearable- where as I used to barely hurt at all. I also am stuck at a weight between 125-130- (I am 5ft2) which I've never been, unless pregnant . I don't eat much at all-my fiance is always saying I don't eat enough.. Yet, for some reason I have this "round" stomach that WON"T go away. Oh yeah, ever since my TL- the upper part of my stomach feels kinda numb, and it's kind of like I can't tighten those muscles. This may be part of my belly problem, but it's very annoying for people to ask if I am pregnant , because they see this round pooch of a belly - and nothing else is abnormal - no weight gain in my face, butt or thighs. I also signed a paper saying I was getting my tubes TIED.. but at a checkup about a year or two after that, their records indicated they were cut tied and burned, which according to them means reversal cannot be done and a tubal pregnancy cannot happen

I am going through the same exact thing as some of these posts that I am reading. I was always 115 pounds or less, even after my second child. With my third child I decided to have a tubal immediately after giving birth. It has been almost 4 years since then and I have kept all the baby fat in my stomach and gained some. I have bigger thighs and gained 40 pounds, I am up to 155! I have never ever weighed this much before when I wasnt pregnant! I have tried everything to lose, excercise, eating hardly anything, eating the right things, drinking more water and nothing works! My aunt had a tubal and I noticed the same thing with her, she cant shake the belly fat! WTH?? I am so mad! If I had known this would have happened I would have opted for an IUD instead. My doctor never told me any of these side effects. He probably knew I wouldn't have it done if he had told me and then he wouldnt have made the money off of the surgery, that rat. I dont know what to do now! I hate the way I look, I feel gross.

Hello everyone! I am SOOO happy to hear that I am not a crazy chick, Hypo Hypo, you know lol. I have NEVER had a weight issue until now. I have had nothing but problems since my tubal, and now I am told I need a complete hysterectomy to solve the MANY problems caused by this horrible procedure. It started immediately after the surgery. I was in excruciating pain, and my belly was blown up like I had not yet delivered my baby. As the anesthesia wore off the pain got worse and worse, requiring very high and frequent doses of pain medication. (Keeping in mind I have an extremely high tolerance for pain, 3 children completely naturally, no pain meds before, during, or after, I have even sewn my own knee shut after a motorcycle accident with no pain killers, ect.) I was asking for anesthesia to be administered again because the pain stuff did not touch the pain I felt. I went to x-ray in fear the "intern" left something inside me. I was told, NOTHING, NORMAL, IT WILL PASS, GAS PAIN, Ect. I could not even go to the bathroom for over 24 hrs after drinking large amounts of liquid, TOLD NORMAL. I left the hospital with prescriptions and took pain meds every 2-4 hrs for weeks! When I broke out in a rash all over and my body swelled like I had never seen before they prescribed antibiotics and more pain meds, When I developed dble ear infections that I have now had for 1 and 1/2 yrs, they gave more AB! Over and over, stronger and stronger. NOTHING WORKED! I SUFFER CONSTANT NASTY EAR INFECTIONS, HUGE WEIGHT GAIN, DEPRESSION, PAINFUL SEX, POST COITAL ACHE, IRRITABILITY, MOOD SWINGS, HOT FLASHES, JOINT PAIN, MUSCLE ACHES, BOWEL PROBLEMS, FLUID RETENTION, NERVE PAIN, MEMORY LOSS, EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER'S, FITS OF ANGER, CRYING, EMBARRASSMENT, ANXIETY, HEART PALPITATIONS, CHANGE IN BODY ODOR, BREATH ODOR, HAIR LOSS, HORRIBLE CRAMPS DURING PERIODS, PHANTOM PERIODS(CRAMPS WITH NO BLEEDING), LOSS OF SELF WORTH, FEAR OF SEEING PEOPLE (or PEOPLE SEEING ME. I would not even travel home for a funeral), RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS DUE TO ALL OF THIS, and much more....These are just a "FEW" or the symptoms I suffer with. It is 15 days shy of 2 yrs since the tubal. IT HAS BEEN MISERABLE!!!! I am so happy to know it is NOT in my head! xoxo to all! We will find relief, we will get better, this will be a turning point for all who suffer needlessly! I have found this post and I will not give my life away. I will keep posting until I find relief.

Had a tubal after my second child a year ago and can't seem to shed the last 20 pounds of my weight. Nothing seems to be working. The weight is all in my stomach and upper thighs. No other symptoms.

I am 23 yrs old, recently had my tubal in feb-2010. I have gained about 25lbs and still gaining. Bringing me back to the same weight I was 9 months pregnant with my son. :-( I had my tubal done 5 months after my son was born, who was my second child.my doctor told me there would be no high risk with the tubal.I was lied to,with my weight gain I have mild hair loss, cramps in my on both sides ,vaginal dryness, that I have never had before my tubal.other than that I am fairly happy with the outcome.I have this jello belly after my tubal,it kind of remind me of Adam Sandlers in the movie click.no matter what I do I still look pregnant.I blame my tubal for this belly jello, being I had never had this roll till after my tubal.

I have gone through every post here and I find myself relieved yet saddened by what I have read. Relieved that I'm not going crazy by thinking I'm the only one going through this yet saddened that we were not told this could happen. After having my first child at 18 years old (yes I know that's fairly young) I weighed 110 lbs. I'm 5'6" so that's fairly thin. I gained 26 lbs during pregnancy but lost 16 lbs after his birth. For my second child (I was 29) I started at 120lbs and went up to 163lbs. I slowly began losing weight and I was on my way back down to what seemed like my "normal" weight of about 120. After the birth of my daughter I decided I would undergo a tubal ligation. In December of 2008 right before my tubal ligation I was weighing 145lbs and I was happy with how I looked. Here it is almost 2 years later and I am up to 180lbs. I have NEVER ever in my life been heavy like I am right now. At first I thought that the weight gain was due to the passing of my mother in 2009, I was a bit depressed but I was actually NOT eating due to the depression but continued to put on weight. I look at pictures of myself and I want to cry because I don't want to look like this but no matter what I do I can't seem to get the weight off. Since my procedure I have noticed many changes in who I am. Mentally, I am a mess. I'm not who I used to be. I used to smile all the time and now I'm always upset. I'm very easily aggitated. Mood swings. I cry at the drop of a dime. I'm constantly snapping at my husband and children. I do not like to go out because I feel too fat to be seen in public. I feel like everyone is looking at me and talking about my fat stomach. I have no self worth. Physically, I get hot flashes. My body is constantly aching from what I'm guessing is the excessive weight gain. My period is ssssooooooo irregular that at one point I thought I might actually be pregnant. I get it every 2 1/2 months. But when I do get it, boy oh boy, I feel as thought it's making up for "lost time". My stomach feels like someone is trying to rip through it and it looks like I'm about 5 months pregnant. I literally hate my body! Sexually, well put it this way, sex is barely there. My husband understands but we do get into little quarrels from time to time because I feel like since the procedure I just don't want sex. I can go on for days about all the things I have gone through since the procedure. I truly hope that doctors are reading this so they can better prepare their next patients for the side effects of TL. If I could do it all over again, I would NOT get this procedure!!!

I have gained alot of weight since my tubal in 04. I have always been very small and petite weighing no more than 115 at max unless pregnant. And as a shocker to all I have 8 children and was still this small afterwards, until my tubal. I had the procedure done when my baby was 6 weeks old and I was weighing 130 ( 188 at birth ) in 2 days after ny surgery I weighed a huge hefty 170. 40 lbs and not pregnant, I have tried everything under the sun from diets to excercise. The only time I could lose some was from hardly eatting enough food for 1 toddler meal and I couldn't keep like that. I was 175 and got down to 128 in 4 months. Here it is almost 4 months later and I'm back up to 155. I have a diet with NO bread, potatoes or junk food only rich in fruits, some vegies, yogurts and diet snacks/meals and nothing has helped. I am actually looking into getting them untied to lose weight. I don't know how much it has effected your emotions but it makes me depressed alot knowing I can't lose weight. Used to be size 1, now I'm a size 6 and going back to size 12 I feel.

I WAS TOLD BY MY DOCTOR AND NURSES YOU CANNOT GET THE TUBAL REVERSED. THEY DIDN'T MENTION THE PROBLEMS HAVE WITH GAINING WEIGHT!!! I'M SO DEPRESSED!

You can get your tubal reversed, and alot of your PTLS will go away.

I have the same problem with weight gain and the inability to lose it. I also had other symptoms like incontinence and creepy crawlies on my skin. I spoke to my doctor, who I've known for 7 years, and he told me that my symptoms mirror those of gulten and dairy allergies. He said that once women have hormonal changes, like when we have our tubes tied, we develope a lot of food sensitivities. Within a week of changing my diet most of my symptoms went away and I lost 6 pounds. It's been 3 months and I've lost almost 40 pounds. It's hard to get used to and some many foods contain wheat and dairy but, I have 4 kids and I have to cook for them every day. So if I can do, literally anyone can. Changing the food I eat would automatically improve my body but I've also been exercising regularly. Low impact is best because jolting around can swell your uterus which causes the incontinence and bloating. Since I've changed the way I eat I've found that others have linked gulten and dairy sensitivities to a list of conditions including autisum and ADD. Before I always felt swolen and achy. The improvement I feel now is undescribable. I hope others see this post and it helps.

I too gained weight since my TL in 2010. I packed on 20lbs in 2 months. I am very depressed and currently looking into a diet/ excercise program to get rid of this unwanted weight. It's upsetting now that I think about it, when I was giving my info packet on TL not one time has it mention weight gain and a fat belly.

I had my tubal done in 08 during my c-section. I weigh now exactly what I did before birth. Over two yrs later i still look pregnant. I have numerous other health problems. In January 10' I started having heart palpitations and high blood pressure, I have very heavy periods, cramps are horrible, bowel problems, pelvic pain and constantly bloated. I didn't have any of these problems before the tubal. I went to a heart doctor for my heart racing and blood pressure. He ran lots of test and said everything looked normal and thinks its my hormones causing my problems. I just don't understand why doctors don't warn women of the potential risks. I so wished I would have did some research before cause i sure wouldn't have went thru with it.
