I have been reading the post and have enjoyed them. I have been trying to deal with recommendations from 2 doctors as to have a hysterectomy. I am in my 40's married and we have no children. I was told I have uterine cancer (cancer in the lining of the uterus). I have been bleeding for 4 weeks straight which includes blood clots as big as your fists. My husband has been great and he wants me to have the surgery but its me. I want a child even though I know it is probably impossible. First due to the heavy bleeding, second unhealthy enviroment (my body). My body is extremely bloated and I constantly urnitate. I feel tired but I pushes myself to the point when I get home I pass out. I go see one more doctor to see if there is another way besides the big H? Keep me in your prayes. I will read all comments.

Hello my surgery it's scheduled for July 25th 2011. I am extremely scared. I know I'm having a hysterectomy but the Dr advised I'm having my uterus removed but not my fallopian tubes. I don't know the difference between a Hysterectomy (uterus removed) and full hysterectomy where they include your certix and the fallopian tubes as well.
Would I gain weight if only my uterus is removed?
I added some exercise. I walk 2 miles and it takes me about 40 minutes.
I have lost my sex drive, but remember the doctor took out my ovaries.
This site gets good "traffic," but also try the "Hystersisters" site. There is a lot of information on that site.
According to my doctor, my weight should not be affected, in fact it might improve because I wont be sick all the time! When you loose your ovaries (which are attached to you fallopian tubes, so I am assuming that it is what you mean) you go into menopause. My doctor is not removing my ovaries because I am only 26 and she has said over and over again that I am WAY too young to deal with that! Many women have full hysterectomies because the problems also involve their ovaries. My doctor is removing my cervix because it might continue with the complications I have been having and there is no real reason to keep it anymore. So are you keeping your cervix too?
I wouldn't worry about weight gain, and I wouldn't worry at all if you can help it! I have my hysterectomy July 16th (just a few days away!) and I am ready to not be sick anymore!
It has been 1 week since my Hysterectomy. I feel great, just have the occasional cramp that sends me into the fetal position from time to time. But my weighloss has been huge. I have lost 9 pounds. I think it is due to the lack of appetite, I just want soup, and sleep.
I had a complete hysterctomy on August the 22nd 2011, with removal of the uteris, falliopian tubes, both ovaries and the cervix. My Dr. told my husband after the sergury while I wa sin recoverythat my uteris was huge bigger than a basketball. I weighed the day I came home from the hospital with only a few pounds differnce in weight but a week and a half after my sergury I weighed again with a 20lb weight loss. I still dont eat much it tends to make me sick everytime I eat but am sure it will straighten out soon. I am worried I will gain weight once it does because I have been struggling and trying hard to lose weight for some time now before sergury I had lost 60lbs and fear gaining it back now. I try to drink only water all day and only 1 dt soda a day if that and try never to eat seconds of anything.
The other thing that worries me is mood swings I have them constantly its like my emotions are one big train wreck and I cant figure out where I am one second from the next. I also worry about what my sex life will be like once the doctor gives the ok for it again.
I go back on the 9th of septemper to see if my doctor wants to put me on hormone theropy. I am glad I found this site and hope we can all keep in touch and help each other through this. Thanks Kira
I want to say thank you to all the ladies who have had so many positive coments. I am waiting for my surgery to be scheduled, tomorrow is my consult. I have been putting this surgery off for about two years because I was afraid from all the negative things I have heard and read. After reading all your experiences I am now looking forward to feeling better.
I have had trouble with my periods every since they started when I was 11. I have two kids, my daughter when I was 18 and my son when I was 21. I had doctor's tell me when I have kids that my periods would become normal, never happened. After my daughter was born I didn't have a period for a year, after my son it was almost two years before I had a period that's when a doctor told me I was premenopausal. When I started having periods again I would get a flu like cold every time (thank goodness I only had three periods a year), terrible cramps and would lay in bed for two days from the pain. I am now 37 and ready to feel good for the first time in years.
