My niece is finally pregnant. She called me today to tell me about this because she knew it how much I wanted this day to happen. She is three months pregnant but she told me today that she is a little bit scared because she has some abdominal discomfort during her pregnancy.

I have tried to explain to her that there is no reason for her to worry that much, that this is a normal thing when girls are pregnant, the body is changing, etc but since I don't have my own kids I think that she is a little bit suspicious.

So, can you tell me what are the causes of abdominal discomfort during pregnancy?

Hi Hannah,

Let me put it this way. There are so many causes of abdominal pain during pregnancy which are really dangerous that you simply don't want to know about these and on the other hand, there is no need for you to know about these causes because your niece's abdominal pain is definitely not caused by any of these serious causes, I am almost certain that her pregnancy is the only thing causing this, I mean, it is so normal to be feeling abdominal pain when pregnant. But anyway, if she is worried, she can always go and talk to her doctor.

The way I see it, the most common cause of abdominal discomfort in pregnancy is pregnancy itself, I know this from my personal experience, I was pregnant three times and during my first pregnancy I was so scared because of the abdominal pain that I was feeling that I went to talk to my doctor, He told me that everything was okay but I still asked him to let me do some tests which I did and everything turned out to be okay. I had this kind of abdominal pain during the other two pregnancies as well and I actually went again to do some tests and everything was okay, again.

She should talk to her doctor if she is afraid about her health or her baby's health. This all depends on where does she feel this abdominal discomfort and how exactly does this discomfort feel like, this is all important because there are a lot of different dangerous causes of abdominal discomfort and each of them feel differently and appear at a different place.

She can give it some time and see if it is going to stop occurring but I still think that the smartest thing for her to do would be to go talk to her doctor and do some tests.

Hi Hannah,

I think that you might find some useful info regarding your question on this link: https://www.steadyhealth.com/articles/causes-of-abdominal-pain-during-pregnancy

As you explained it yourself already, abdominal pain or discomfort during pregnancy is a common thing but it can indeed be caused by some dangerous things (which you will see on the link that I have posted) so I think that it would be smart for your niece to go and talk to her doctor in order to do some tests and see if everything is okay. I am almost sure that everything is okay with your niece although it's better to just get checked.

Hey there. I am also pregnant and I am dealing with abdominal discomfort. It started to happen to me almost a week ago and it won't go away. I was reading some advice and I found information that there is no need to visit the doctor since that is normal. But I am a little bit scared because I consider this pain as sharp one and I am now really scared. I am planning to make an appointment with my doctor and I will tell him how I feel, I will explain everything to him. I just want to know does any of you had those types of pain - sharp and constant for days? It really makes me wonder...

Hello guys. So my niece went to see her doctor a couple of days ago and he checked her. Ultrasound says that everything is ok with the baby. He explained to her that pregnant girls do have those types of pain because baby is growing up. So, she was much calmer after that but she called me today again and she told me that pain was persistent when she came back from the doctor and that now she is in bigger pain that a couple of days ago.

Is there any possibility that ultrasound was wrong or something?

I am trying to calm her down but she is really scared.

I am sure that ultrasound was not wrong, but just to be sure maybe she needs to look up for another opinion. Anyway, if this pain won't go away that really doesn't mean anything because persistent pain when someone is pregnant is also a normal thing.

Maybe she is just scared.  Dear Guest, read other advice and you will find that the best solution is to see your doctor. Make an appointment with him or her, tell what is your problem and how you feel and let them do some tests. That is the only way for you to be able to find out what exactly is going on and why do you have that pain.

Hello everyone.

Your body is changing. That is the first cause. Your body is trying to accept that the baby is inside. That is the pain that has no danger for you or your baby.

According to what I know, some of you are dealing with so-called round ligament pain. That is the kind of pain that can be characterized by a sharp stabbing pain when you change positions.

Hannah, I believe that your niece is feeling that kind of pain. I don't believe that she is facing with something else because ultrasound would show it.

All she needs to do is to calm down and track her pregnancy along with her doctor.
