I have been on suboxone for almost 6 years because I can't get off it.

6 Years, do you have any teeth left? I had to have all of my teeth done with implants. $$$$$$$
I know how you feel, I have tried to cut back but the withdrawl starts up very fast. I started suboxone because the Oxycontin was not working any longer for my pain. The Suboxone helps with my leg and back pain. The doctor wants to start me back up on Oxycontin. I still think I will have some kind of withdrawl.

Before I reply, I'd like to suggest that you ask anyone who answers your question by saying things like "suboxone is hard on your liver" to back up their claims with evidence.

I suggest you look up long-term toxicity of suboxone on PubMed.

That being said, contrary to the beliefs of the ignorant masses, you won't find evidence of suboxone causing damage simply due to long term use.

Many people use the "post hoc ergo propter hoc" ("after this, therefore because of this") fallacy when coming to conclusions about medications. Many others also simply assume that "synthetic drugs" must cause some kind of damage. Most people don't know anything about how drugs are metabolized. That being said, most opioids are easily metabolized and you won't even be able to find evidence of harm due to long term use.

i was on suboxone for two years for an addiction to pain pills. While it really help with my with draw from pain pills it had its on issues. The withdraw from it was worst the the withdraw from the pain pills. I also have the vision and teeth issues. But I also would like to know if anyone has had problems with numbing medications not lasting. I had to get a cyst removed from my hand and they could not get my hand numbed out.. I have been off suboxone now for six months and there has been times that i had to take a pain pill and it did not work. please let me know if anyone else has this problem. While it is a good drug for very short term use, the long term use is a big problem. I also ran in to doctors that did not know what they were doing. One would tell me that I could be on it for the rest of my life, other would say for three years, one said only short term use. I feel that they are not trained enough on the use of this drug.

You can get a coupon good for $50/month off from your prescription by searching the internet. The manufacturer releases the coupon every six months to a year. My husband uses them and it helps financially.

I disagree with the downgrade theory & I have experience with both clinics. Weening off of methadone is a cake walk compared to suboxone. Suboxone wasn't designed for the current way its being used.

Hi. I truly believe your taper is due to withdrawals. Weaning off Suboxone can be a horrible experience is not done the proper way. I myself have been on 16mg's of Suboxone for about 4 years. I feel I'm a slave to this drug, and am wanting to do a slow taper. Some of my symptoms on taking my 16mg's of Suboxone are.....extreme fatigue, loss of interest, and a mental feeling of being numb. I hate this drug even though in the beginning it worked wonders for me and my addiction to opiods. Good luck!

Dont want to be the bad messanger girl but your fked up for good. Your going to suffer while on suboxone and off it too.

You can get Suboxone in little "sheets" like I do. This makes it very easy to split in half, or in a quarter, if you want to taper off..

It's not surprising that you may experience long term tolerance. I relapsed after 7 months of abstinence and was surprised that my tolerance had no completely vanished.

nonsense.  Suboxone can sometimes be unpleasant when it is first taken because it's a weak agonist and can replace stronger agonists, leading to precipitated withdrawal.  Withdrawal from suboxone can be unpleasant if it's done too quickly.  However, significant suffering is not guaranteed.  It can be done with very little discomfort.

I keep hearing this teeth thing with methadone and Suboxone. "It's a myth!". I spent 19 years on Methadone/ Heroin maintenance and have been on 32mg of Suboxone since it was released almost 9 years ago. I still have every tooth I had to start with and have not had a cavity or need to see a dentist in over 25 years. Your health, genes, brushing your teeth and whether or not you grew up in a part of the country that has fluoridated water are 100% responsible for the condition of your teeth. Narcotics (Opiates) have Absolutely Nothing to do with your teeth. And while I am on the subject, aside from your opiate receptors, Opiates are the least damaging of just about any prescription or non-prescription drug on the market. Yes you can overdose, you can also overdose on water and die of hyperhidrosis, but opiates don't destroy your liver like Tylenol, or any of the NSAID's do, have no known tetra genic effects, and there is no legitimate medical research showing damage to any other organ of your body. Ask a real pharmacologist or read the Real medical literature. The pain and suffering of withdrawal though causing misery passes in time. If you took a constant dose of any natural opiate including Heroin for 50 years and took care of your health no organ in your body would be damaged. All of the disease associated with opiate abuse can be directly tied to lifestyle, bad health, bad diet, contaminated needles and exposure to people and situations from which you can catch a disease. I am 57 in in better health than I was 20 years ago. Diet, exercise and living a good life doing the next right thing with good people in your life makes all the difference. Blaming these drugs is a diversion and denial. If you need to take it take it don't let anyone scare you off into relapse. If you can do without it get off now. Only you know. I wont take the chance of stopping something that I cant even feel and takes one day a month to pick up, and stops me from ever craving or even thinking about using anymore. Only you know .

I have been on Suboxone for over four years, I can tell you that if I had not had this drug I would not be here for my twin 8 year old boys and wife. I would most likely be dead from using $1200.00 a week of my drug of choice. I have been using 24mg's and have tapered to 12 in just a few weeks. I have more energy now that I have lowered my dose. I had very little with draw just a little irritable. My doctor believes that you have to taper very slow when you get to the lower doses. Meaning that if your on 2mg's that you should taper to 1.5mg's for a month before you lower the dose again. It could take up to 6 months to taper correctly. Also the " lame 12 step program and the support that doctors require" shouldbe strong enough that It helps keep your mind off the ackes and pains of mild with draw. We have all enjoyed the long term use of our drug of choice, os we have to expect that 14 days out of the thousands of days of damage, were are going to experience some pit falls from time to time. Its called Life. We have all been making lifes effects for so long that we forgot that sometimes it can be painful. Please just hang in there and let us know how life is in a few months of clean living. Don't scare the c**p out of folks that are in the same boat. Life does get better.

My experience with Suboxone is somewhat unique. I began insufflating the medication in 2004, recreationally. I graduated high school on 2005 and went to college with some paid for street methadone i bought from a veteran friend of mine. IAfter i ran out of that medication, I was in trouble so I checked into a clinical rehab. To no surprise, I was started on buprenorhine (Subutex). Following discourse from the physicians at the hospital in Minneapolis, where I sought treatment, I began my long and continuous battle with prescribed Suboxone.

I have been prescribed Suboxone for 9 years. 80 percent of the time i was taking 8mg hexagonal orange tablets. The past year or two I have been administering the films. I feel some side effects at this point as a result of the medication. Particularly, I feel I have body aches and pains, as well as intermittent reactions in the form of severe itching to specific regions of my body. Generally the pelvic area and the upper arms.

Anyway, please advise as to your experiences and side effects as being on this medication for many years >8 yrs.

Thanks!

I was on 32mg of suboxone for almost 8 years. I was slowly titrated done and was going along fine until I was dropped from 4 mg to 2mg and then off. The withdrawl was hereddous going rom 4 mg to 2 and then off. I'ts been two years since my last dose and I don't ever think I will be the person that I was prior to suboxone. I am 8 years older but it sucks. I was probably one of the first people on this after FDA approval. Who could possibly know what the long term effects could be after 8 years. As much as I want that energy and carefree personalitiy back. I could never live through another withdrawal and that is what keeps me from going back to it.

Please stick it out-it is a freedom to be off.
