I have had no pain and no weird odours but have had a LOT of clotting - clots so huge that they would overflow a shot glass if measured...they come out every couple of hours and I can FEEL them.. gross! I'm so worried because its just not normal!! why won't it stop? anyone have any ideas??

There seem to be more questions than answers. :\

Currently, i've been bleeding for about two weeks now, though i'm not sure because at first, i thought it was nothing, so i just let it go. I had had my period at the beginning of June, which was uncharacteristically light & painless, but it ran its course & was over. Then, about two weeks ago, it started going on & off-- at first light, then bleeding more, then light again, & so on. Thought it was just spotting, but it's persisted & now it's just bleeding, but not heavily. Am cramping a little bit, & am really confused over the whole thing.

But i've never had regular periods (it's skipped months before; within the last year it skipped two months in a row), so i don't know if this is just some weird resetting thing it's doing, if it's because of my sleep schedule (though i've been on a late-night schedule before & this has never happened) or what.

So... does anyone have any answers yet? Reading through, it seems like mine is a little different, since i've never been regular & it's not heavy. Could it be anything different, maybe?

Wow am I glad I found this forum! I am 46 years old and my period has been tapering off over the last 5 years or so, but now, as of today, I have been bleeding like a regular period for about 8 days now, and have never had anything abnormal happen like this. I am eating healthy (actually dieting, but on a good program: Lindora) and am taking vitamin supplements and additional iron and drinking a lot more water. I am almost sure that I am peri-menopausal. I feel for all of the younger ladies with this problem. I do hope that someone comes up with some answers for you! I will report back in a few days with what is happening to me. I know this thread is probably the furthest thing from anyones mind, but I hope for the benefit of others that come later everyone that posts will post what happened to them or what they discovered! Thanks everyone in advance for any input that you have!

Well, I am just updating on my own post. I am on about day 13 of my period, and the flow is exactly the same. I am taking iron and vitamin c together every morning. I have been doing some reading and it looks like this is definitely a menopausal "symptom". I am going to start exercising more to see if I can help get my homones back into "whack". I am not really scared, as I am pretty sure because of my age this is my problem. I'll update in a few days. :)

Well, it stopped yesterday. Actually, it tapered off, and then is completely stopped today, so it was about 2 weeks long! That was strange, but I am grateful that it is gone and I am most likely okay. Other than getting old, lol!

I started exercising more (increased my cardio and did a bit more with the dumbbells) and I also "cheated" on my diet as I was on a weird plateau. I cheated with sherbet and cookies, and then did more exercise to compensate and went right back on my program the next day. The cheat day is when it stopped.

Hope this info helped someone!

One more update since its approaching a year since my first post....

I haven't had any further problems with bleeding at all. Definitely hormonal!

To all that have posted in this forum. I think it would be wise, especially if you are overweight, to go to the doctor and get tested for Hypothyroidism. I just recently moved to Michigan to marry my now husband. In the move I didn't take my thyroid medicine on a regular basis and then ran out all together. This sent my cycle into a tailspin. I am currently on day 9 of my period and I have never been irregular before. My advice, go and talk to your Doctor and see if they will check your T4 and thyroid to see if it is working properly. I hope this helps.

i'm 18 years old and have had a period since i was 16.

it had never been regular though, i'd have it for a week straight then not again for two months. things like that. lately though, this past year especially, i have had dark blackish blood and been bleeding ALOT. i've been bleeding for 3 months straight now and it varies from thick and heavy to thin and sparse day to day. the odor is not pleasant either, but it wasn't always this way.

i don't eat very much, maybe one big meal a day. i don't sleep very much. i am under a huge amount of stress. i have sex regularly ALWAYS with protection. i am active. i take iron pills semi regularly due to my assumption that i am anemic. i am light headed alot, i have nausea often in the mornings, and i have back pains alot.

any assumptions or ideas on what's wrong?

I am in some ways relieved to come across this forum as I have been experiencing a day or two of very heavy bleeding, then light spotting or bleeding and then out of the blue, its very heavy again. I also have PCOS so I dont know if this is a causing factor..or one of the factors.

I also feel nauseous and have pain and cramps.

I was on my way to an interview,, when all of a sudden I felt it. It was the worst experience because I wasnt prepared and jes felt a gush...had to cancel my interview and went home and began crying because I got so scared but was also frustrated cause I felt like I had no control over my body.

I am gonig to my doctor tomorrow and I hope everything is ok - they will probably do an ultrasound...

Something similar happened to me years ago where I had a heavy period for about 15-17 days and it was very painful...however I was very stressed out during that time and as soon as the stress left, my period stopped just like that..from very heavy bleeding to nothing!

I think my current situation may be somewhat due to stress as I am facing a lot of it at work.

Unfortunately there seems to be more questions than answers, for that i am slightly relieved to knw that i am not the only one being toally frustated by this situation.

Im 19 and got my period when i was about 14. From day one it was never regular, i was lucky to get it once every two months but at the time it didnt bother me too much because its common to not start menstrating on a regular basis. However, 5 years on I've started taking the pill in hope of regulating my irregular period but instead have opened a whole "new can of worms". Last month (august) i had my period for almost 4 weeks (the most frustrating 4 weeks of my life!) and two weeks later I've got it again, 9 days and counting!

I'm of perfect weight, i eat a healthy diet, i dont really exercise as much as I should and I'm under normal amounts of stress. I've been to my doctor, who has changed my pill dosage but that currently isnt showing any signs of improvement. I'm also a premed student and nothing i knw seems to be the answer my or your symptoms.

If i can make a suggestion for this site as it is a health forum. It may be useful for you and the users of this site to maybe ask a few health professionals to volunteer some time, just monitoring posts and offering advice where needed.

When I was around 17, I was on a lot of medication for depression. Because of this reason, I got my period around 3 times a year!
Around the age of 20, I was no longer taking any medication regularly and my periods normalized to once a month.

At 27, I am running into my first prolonged period. It's very annoying due to the fact it's been about two weeks. I have been eating differently, I'm on Nutrisystem, and chalk it up to that. It was a dark color (almost black) when it started but now it is the normal red.

For all you ladies that have been bleeding for two or more weeks, PLEASE contact your obgyn.

I'm 20, and i've been on the pill for over two years with no problems untill last month, I began spotting two days before my expected period and it has continued for the most part until this period, only stopping for about a day before my preiod. I'm not over weight, I'm physically active, and sexually active, I don't eat much junk food, and since the beggining of October have put my workout routine into overdrive. What the heck is this?!? and how can I make it stop?! Its driving me nuts, a week is long enough but a month is just insane! If anyone knows anything, please reply!

Hello. I am 21 years old and i have been having my period going on 2 1/2 months. I have never had a regular period because i have always been active in sports (so the doctors have said). My normal periods would be about every 4-5 months. Since i have never been regular, should i worry about this ongoing period? Should i wait it out? thanks.

Hi, I don't think it has anything to do with weight, because I am a size 3 and I have had regular periods until about two or three months ago... my periods have become irreuglar: I will go for about two days, very light and then a few days later start again and it is very heavy and bright red and it goes very a few weeks... I just feel sick and cannot afford to go the doctor...what might be the proble?

Hi there everyone...i am having problems with non-stop bleeding now for the past 4 or 5 months...sometimes it is heavy and sometimes it is not.. I don't know what is the cause of this. I have had irregular periods before not having my period for like 4 or 5 months at a time...and then they would last for like a week for each month that I had missed. Now the bleeding is going on forever it seems...i have had 2 transvaginal ultrasounds and they havent found nothing...except they say since i am overweight that could be the cause...but I am not sure.

The doctor wanted to do a biopsy on me..but it costs money that i don't really have...i know this is for my health...has anyone else gone through this or is going through this?? I am 37 years old, could this be some form of menopause and my cycle is going wild?? please if anyone can help me ....i would appreciate this very much...i think i will make an appointment with the doctor though....but i am sure they will just say the same thing that it is nothing ...when i know it has to be something...and when i am bleeding also...there sometimes is these dark thick blood clots....i am getting worried and freaked out what is the cause of all of this

any answers would help me

thanks
