what to expect with a baby addicted to methadone and xanax?

any mother that uses drugs while pregant as useless and the baby should b taken away and mom should go to jail ,thats whats wrong with the system today thy b***h about the moms doing drugs but thy dont have the balls to punish the moms

My sister is in the same sittuation. she got pregnant when she was on methadone and she did alot of drugs year before and a major alcoholic. this is her second child and she was a pre mature baby by 1 month. Im not sure how much methadone she was taking but we recently found out the baby has brain damage my sister and her husband have no money and myself and husband and our parents and helping them. we are worried about what diffrences from a normal child and her could be. also my sister is a very selfish person. my parents dont want to deal with a baby that has brain damage and i know they are to selfish to think about there children. she has a 6 year old child that she act's like she does not exsist if she in front of her and takes no interest in her older child and she is health and i thank god for that but she live with my parents and its like they act like there first child is not even her's. I want to know what your opion is on should we get the baby away from them i really dont want my niece to end up in foster care and i have disabilitys myself so i know what it is like alittle bit and i know it intales and should take the baby my husband and i can do it we both have disablitys ourselfs and i have access to better doctors my sister is the kind of person that would not even get to the point of making appoiintments my parents and i had to take care of her first child. im not sure how she plans to deal with this sittuation we dont know how suffere the brain damage is yet i need someone's opion to think what can be done so they can be self relient they live with my parents with both childen and my sister is almost 30 how do we get them to be in a possision to be on there own and deal with there kid if they wont give her to us and give her the best medical and chance at life. how do i get them to make the right disision.

I had 2 babies while on methadone.. my daughter was born didn't even test positive for methadone in her system had no withdrawals once so ever and came home in 3 days with me.... my son had mild withdrawals but was completely controlled by the doctors and came home within 1 week.... obviously I did not intentionally do drugs during my pregnancy as I was on methadone when I got pregnant both times and once on it while pregnant you can not get off of it... so if you want to try to down in ebuddy lookup the facts beforehand

But what do you do with a stupid woman who was buying her methadone off the street, the baby is addicted and under treatment. no only did this woman take so much methadone to get high while in the hospital she dropped the poor little fellow on his head. of course dhs took him and her other children. but i think she should be locked up, the doctors said they don't have a clue how much she was taking since she bought it off of her drug dealer. and to the woman who said it was easier on the baby then herion, the nurses said give them one addicted to that before one addicted to methadone.  i care for the little fellow, and it just breaks my heart. i wish i wasn't so old i would try and adopt him myself. to the woman who wants to know how to help her grandchild, have all the paitence you can. he will be fussy, shakes, tummy problems etc this little guy will start to be weaned off of his meds this week, he is 3 weeks old now. about an hr before his 'dose; he starts screaming at top of his lungs, he shakes, legs are drawn up to his tummy. i wrap him snuggley and cuddle him close and if i am lucky he will stop the jerking and quiet down until i can give him the meds.     So sorry if i do not feel sorry for any mother who took drugs when pregnant, i think they should put her in jail, take away her methadone and let her feel what her child is going through.

listen u have no idea what its like to have a drug dependency! its a chemical imbalance in your head!! yeah I know what u mean, woman shouldn't take drugs while they are pregnant but some need them!! I never did drugs but I watched my biological father go threw it!! your not a dr!! so get the f*** out of here!

I was addicted to opiates for a long time and in April of 2012 I found out I was pregnant. I had previously had a miscarriage because I quit taking the opiates cold Turkey.I knew that wasn't an option. I searched for the answer with my doctors and therapists. And together we all decided that the best option would be methadone. I was on the lowest dose possible to keep from withdrawing. My daughter was born January 15th 2013. She was 2 days OVER due. She weighed 7lbs 11oz. Very healthy baby. After 36 hours however, she did begin to have some withdrawal symptoms. They took her to the nicu and began giving her a VERY low dose of methadone. (She wasn't even on a whole mg) she stayed in the nicu for 8 days just so they could get the withdrawal symptoms under control and to also see how the medication affected her. After the 8 days she was fine. Acted like a normal newborn and had no more withdrawals. She was sent home and I administer her medication to her everyday. She is being weaned off of the medication very slowly to ensure that she is safe. I do it all at home by myself. She has a nurse from Care Partners that checks on her and she also sees her pediatrician often. She should be completely off the methadone by June. Like I said, she is on less than 1mg and she is weaning off of it. Its not a permanent thing. She is a perfectly healthy little girl. Shes almost 13lbs at 8 weeks. There are no proven problems in children that were on methadone. They are still doing studies. People are SO judgemental and shouldn't be. Especially if they don't know what they are talking about. what i dont understand is that all of you who are whining about methadone its controlled by a doctor yes folks that means just about 8 years more schooling than most of us i really dont see any body talkin about people breeding with sugar problems its the same thing prics your finger and wow you get your meds !!!!!!!!!! only diff is that diabets is life long methadone is temperary so what would you prefer street drugs where u have no idea whats in them or controled by your goverment?? who do you prefer to trust ??? so stop whining its a temperary thing move on !!! after everything passes judging people for whaT you may think is easy or you wouldnt do it if you was prego!!!! because you dont know its a deasease as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You r right Its amazing u crazy high horse females who want to say when n where ppl can have children. Do u think this choice was easy...no! But it was safe by the Dr. Let's think back....u did not a god damn thing wrong while pregnant.... ya that's what I thought. Judgements weren't asked for...helpful advice from other women were so instead of u on Herr putting ppl downwho clearly r having a hard enough time go take care of ur oh so perfect children.

There is even a sign at my clinic saying methadone is safe while prego as long as u aren't mixing other drugs in with the deal
