Hi, I'm a 63 y/o female with severe back pain because of 2 spinal fusions within a year. The second was one was because I tripped and fell into a wall. I loosened some of the topmost screws. Throughout the next two years, I was prescribed the gamut of pain pills to try and relieve some of my back pain. We then tried oxycontin and I had some relief. As time went on I was using oxy and percoset( for breakthrough pain). I am now on 2 doses of 40 mg/day and percoset as needed. I can function and hold down a good job and basically I know my limits and avoid those movements that cause me pain. Two weeks ago my dr took me off the oxycontin and put me on 30 mg 2x's /day of methadone. Why , I don't know. That has caused me to become a zombie/ but no pain. After complaining about the side effects that I was experiencing; difficulty swallowing, sleep disturbances, no appetite, being non communicative, extrere sweating and unable to concentrate and do my job. I asked to be returned to my oxy and he did that this afternoon. So now what is going to happen?? I thought methadone blocked oxy's ability to work. Can someone out there tell me the what's going on!!!
