Hi! Firstly my question is:
Can you describe a difficult time in your life, where you have overcome discontent, and how this has been achieved?
I am from the UK. I booked an appointment at the doctors on friday, and discussed issues relating to a sore throat on one side and pain or discomfort of the ear (ear pain) on swallowing.
The long and short of it was, regarding having a cough (which I told the doc was probably due to smoking), we came to the conclusion that I should start a stop smoking program with the nurse.
In the UK we have doctors we can book appointments with when we are poorly or concerned about symptoms. We also have nurses, as far as I am aware, at most surgeries.
The nurses sometimes perform smear tests, sometimes take blood pressure, check weight etc.
I have realised that to give up smoking would be a positive 'thing' health wise and house wise (reference nicety in atmosphere at home, were it free from these specific smells ).
Last time at a previous surgery, at time of smear test/prescription of no smoking aide, I had my weight and blood pressure checked and could 'chat' to the nurse. Note the comments on the number of issues the nurse had helped me to consider.
I'm really greatful to the system which is available to us in the UK.

Not totally sure what you're asking but I've tried to quit smoking with help of doctors and it didn't work for me... I quit for 3 months purely on willpower, which was great but I found myself in an arguement with a family member and started smoking again, I really want to quit but I have a anxiety disorder so I'm a bag of nerves without a cig lol. In relation to the sore throat and pain in the ear when you swallow sounds like a sinus problem or an ear infection? Ii am also grateful for some of the services the NHS and other healthcare providers provide.. but there are faults.
Hi! Thank you for your post. Wasn't entirely sure what I was asking either :-) but, I think it just accured to me that I was greatful that we have an easily accessible health service in the UK (at the moment!)
I have to agree no system is flawless. I got the throat thing sorted, it went away on its' own after drinking lots of water. Apparently a tube leading to the ear closes up a bit when there's an infection, which doctor described as 'discomfort' rather than pain, so I guess that makes me out to be rather a wimp!
I have an appointment with the no smoking clinic at the docs this week. I have been before and haven't permanently given up, also it's difficult to keep taking time off work to nipp to the doctors for check up, patch prescription etc...I guess I just feel the pressure not to take too much time off work in the current climate, to attend a quit smoking check up.
I'm sorry you have an anxiety disorder, I hope that things are going well for you at the moment. Best wishes.
