Hey Charlie, thanks for the laugh. My tongue hurts so bad I can't even eat, much less laugh about anything. But you made me smile and chuckle because yeah I don't know why I would have done that. In fact I have to ask "do you do standup comedy"? you may have missed your call. I have been soaking my tongue in olive oil, probiotics out of the capsule dissolved in water, orajel (the flavoring burned like c**p) and holding my tongue out in front of the air conditioner vents in my car. Xanax seems to help some but benedryl just makes you groggy but you can't sleep. I'm considering wrapping the tip of my tongue in a bandage. I just really hope this clears up soon and I'm gonna keep a food/medication journal for a while to see if I have any triggers. twice in 1 month is too much. I'm gonna talk to my Doc as well in case this is a precursor to a more serious health issue. I've already had breast cancer and don't want to let another type sneak up on me. Thanks again for the comic relief. I bet we could have some crazy conversations! t.. I think it was the Atomic Bombs my family likes so much. Stay away from those.

I don't use nail clippers but I do whatever I have to to get it off and it does NOT bleed much at all. Then it's almost like it was never there.

I have this too it's so weird!!

I have this too, and I just heard the BEST solution on 'The Doctors'. Paint your tongue with yogurt! I know it sounds weird, but it totally works.  I'm not sure if it's just a temporary fix, but the pain is certainly gone for now. Good luck!

I've had this irritation on and off for most of my life.

I finall went to an ENT (ear/nose/throat doctor) several years ago. I told him they iritated me so badly that I'd pluck them with tweezers-the pain was worth getting those irritants OFF (It reminds me of how an animal will yank their fur/hair out--that's the only way to get relief!)

Anywho...he said he had NO idea what they were/how they were caused. He did, however tell me to stop plucking, but, instead, cut them off with clean scissors. So, I got me a great pair of tiny sharp scissors that do the trick. Warm salt water also calms the irritation.

I wish they'd go away forever, but that'll be the day!

Good luck.

I do the same thing. Snip it off very slowly. If you go as slow as you can, it somehow minimizes the pain. Also, I sucked on a menthol cough drop, and somehow it helped with the pain on the tip of my tongue. Don't ask why or how, it just did. I ran the irritated part of my tongue on the cough drop and it relieved a lot of the pain. Good luck.

Hmm, I'll have to try that. I do use chloroseptic at bedtime sometimes since it has that numbing medication in it. cause if they are driving me crazy iI can't sleep and the gnawing literally makes me mentally exhausted & makes my jaw tired.

I'm curious...do any/all of you smoke? I smoke an ecig, but I'm wondering if the nicotine is the trigger. I got these when I smoke cigarettes, too, but can't recall if I got these in between..when I didn't smoke at all. I'm pretty sure I did, but just a thought.

I have tried treating them with salt water and prescription stuff and it takes like a week or 2 to go away.
Last time I had one I got to wits end and just pulled it off and it stopped hurting and bleeding after about 2 minutes and went away the next day. So I think that is the best option.

I do it too, it always helps. But right now I have lost my scissors and nothing else helps. Fastest way to get rid of them.

I have this same problem. Right now, actually. I get them every few months. Anyway, it's nothing serious, and it will go away in a few days. It will hurt very badly though. Don't scratch it, no matter how hard it is. If the pain gets unbearable, put an ice cube on it, that will help it for a couple hours. Hope this helps! Even though you probably won't see this, and don't have this problem anymore, though this problem may come back.
