Have you ever been tested for celiac disease. One of the symptoms is rectal bleeding.  It is an intolerance to wheat oats barly and rye.  It is a simple blood test that your doctor can do.  If you want to try not eating any of these things for about 6 months and see if your symptoms go away.  It is hard to do because gluten is in just about everything!  I just found out I have it and since I have stopped eating gluten I am slowly feeling better.  Hope this helps!  You can look up to see what alcohol is gluten free.  I know beer is not. some vodka, rum and others are!

I was diagnosed with ibs about 10 years ago.  However I do not believe this is a real condition. I would have your doctor test you for celiac disease.  Thats what I have.  My stomach used to bloat out so bad I would look like I was 6 months pregnant!  The pain was horrible and my sides would be bloated as well. There are alot of symptoms that come with this but if you know how to treat it it can all pretty much go away with out meds.  THis is a wheat oats barly and rye intolerance.  Some meds even have gluten in them. It is found in almost everything.  To see if you may have it you can try not eating anything that has it for 6 months.  my body used to ache all the time.  THe doctors thought i was crazy but now i have been gf for about 2 months and feel so much better.  A lot of alcohol has gluten in it and one of the symptoms is rectal bleeding.  I would get it checked out just to make sure its not cancer by having a colonoscopy.  But try a gf diet. hope this helps!!

Thanks for the info though. I also have been experiencing this problem and I think age factor may have something to do with this problem. My solution... No more alcoholic drinks.

Ooh i think you really MUST get it checked out with doctor. at only 25, you have a lot of living ahead of you, so please be cautious. My husband is 78 and didnt drink until he retired, But he drinks a lot now and It has caused a lot of problems for his health. No matter what the reason, having bloody stool is not good. He has had colonoscopies twice. and had to have polyps removed twice.. now they wanted to do a colostomy and he refused. But I think if he would stop the brandy, it would make his health better. He refuses to see a doctor now. But YOU be careful with your health, you dont get second chances, you know.

l also noticed this was happening to me and it REALLY scared me and the thought of going to the doctor was just as scary. but l had a feeling it might be something to do with drinking alcohol as its happened before after a heavy drinking session and even though l wasnt drinking alot i was having a drink or two most night around xmas time. So after weeks of worrying l found this thread and decided to cut back on the alcohol and with in 2-3 days it had stopped. Dont get me wrong l dont plan on been tea total but will cut out the odd drink on an evening and hopefully it will be ok from now on.

thanks to all other posters who pointed me in the right direction by posting there experiences as i had never heard of this happening to others until l Googled it.;-)

I hope you didn't stick with the stool softeners, because your digestive system can become dependent and you'll be in trouble. You should increase your fiber. Two fiber one's a day. You have some gas, but it is better than the alternative.

With a father and wife who are alcoholics, I feel I have to make a statement. Alcohol is a blood thinner causing platelets not to stick together. If anal bleeding was to occur in large amounts after drinking alcohol this may be a symptom of something else. I just got medical at work so I am looking for someone so I get checked out. Whether it's hemorrhoids or something else im still getting checked out.
