I have the same problem after I eat. If I eat dinner late it keeps me up at nite ! It's really a scary experience for me . I'm tired of spending money on doctors who can't give me an answer ! I don't know what to do ! I've accepted the fact that this is going to kill me . Because this can't be good for my heart.

I am 17 years old and I also experienced the chestpain whenever my heart is beating so fast without reason. It happens for several times but I was wondering why because I don't do anything that can make my heart beat that fast.

I want to know the reason behind because I'm not using a drug and I'm not drinking coffee that may consists caffeine .

please help me to find out...

I agree with what you are saying. My entire family has suffered from anxiety disorders, mainly what you speak of regarding heart rate, shallow breaths etc. I am 45 and I get it for days at a time, then it goes away. BUT like you said, the more I think about it, get paranoid then the worse it gets. I def believe it is simply mind over matter. Thanks for your post.

I am 50 year old female. Not over weight. Try to eat healthy. My heart rate can go to 130 just sitting. Or after I've eaten it will increase as well. This is so frustrating, scared and debilitating at times. I do have anxiety. I can get short of breath as well. I've had blood work. EKG and all appears fine. If it's fine why am i freaking out over it. And when I take my pulse it's like it stops every third beat. Please help before I go insane.

Hi, I'm Joseph, age 28. I'm not replying to anyone's post directly. Just putting my story in here as well, in hopes that something is figured out and we get back to normal.

I'm dealing with something similar. But to start this off I want to offer a warning that I recently was told by a physician I saw last week. Beta-blockers can or may cause "pauses" in one's heart beat.

So what I'm thinking led up to my heart beat problem is.. I had a really stupid day. I have hypertension. It's been under control by a medication called carvedilol or "coreq" as it's commonly known. This stuff is meant to treat more than hypertension but it's also a beta blocker. So ever since I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and prescribed the meds, I've been trying to get off them. Since nobody wants to be stuck on medication through their life. I've skipped my meds some days and only took them when I felt necessary (bad idea, not without the doc's say so, to stop taking them cold turkey).

The day (2/7/14) started with me waking up with a headache, it was either a high blood pressure type of headache OR since I love my coffee, a caffeine headache. So I carried on through the day, not thinking to take my blood pressure. The headache still present all through my day, where I exercised, ate a sodium rich dinner, drank more coffee than I should've, then unwound drinking a beer and a little smoke while watching a favorite show with my brother, headache still present. A few episodes into the show my heart started racing badly. So I kinda wrote it off as a side effect of the smoking. I took my blood pressure then since I couldn't calm myself down, blood pressure was all over the place (high, then low. alarmingly high) I took my medicine then. Probably wasn't a bright idea as it didn't help. Woke up family who were asleep to come check on me in hopes they could help calm me down or knew what this was. I didn't know how to calm down. Really just came across like this was an anxiety/panic attack. The night ended where I calmed down enough to sleep and just remember being back to normal the next day. Next few mornings I would feel some kind of thudding pulse in my ear and still have a headache on and off. I got through that, haven't stopped taking my meds since April 2nd 2014.

Last month I was woken up by becoming suddenly aware of my heart beat. Kinda freaked out. So I called my physician to try and schedule a closer appointment after a few days of this. It was odd that the calmest moment of my day the heart would race or wake me up. Also, not too easy to explain to my doctor. They didn't know if my heart was having palpitations or just racing/fluttering through my description on the phone to the nurse. So when the appointment came around, they asked me questions performed an EKG. Some small spikes, but nothing alarming the nurse told me. I was then sent to a different clinic to get lab work. Nothing wrong there either, so a nurse said I'd get to wear a holter device for 24 hours on the 27th. I figured this way the device would see whatever was freaking me out about my chest/heart. Even cut back on my coffee and haven't smoked since February. Hoping it'd show improvement in my health.

April 1st, I get a phone call from my physician's nurse urging me to get to the ER at another clinic, also advised I shouldn't drive myself, concerning the results from the holter device. (fun way to wake up, huh?)
So I'm at the ER in another town, clueless what they'll tell me. They're swamped, so I had to wait awhile. My new doctor told me during my sleep, my heart paused a few times. The longest pause being 8 seconds. So I was in danger of passing out. They bounced me around the hospital doing all kinds of tests. I had blood drawn twice in one day, they did an echo sound test. I had to wait in the ER for 12 hours with the sick or terribly injured people in the ER (it was really loud and hectic). The echo came back good and they worried it was the beta blockers causing the pauses. So they did a sleep study with my meds in my system it wasn't easy sleeping with all the noise and traffic of people coming into the emergency room. Day two I was taken off my meds and monitored again, this time getting a room outside of the ER floor. Night two I had less noise and still had trouble sleeping. But they said the longest pause off my beta blockers was 2 seconds. I'm not convinced I slept as peacefully since the person I shared the room with kept alerting his nurses, and They sent me home, still have to see my doctor in 2 days. Set up two follow up appointments with two different cardiologists.

I've been home a week, my heart is still beating fast and something feels off. But I haven't gotten any of my questions answered and calming down is still not so easy when my heart starts racing.

It was nice to come across this topic and find out I'm not alone on this occurrence/annoyance/scary moment.. A solution would be even nicer. I've read every post up until now. I wish us all luck on dealing with this some way. If I find anything else out, I'll post something.
