Hi there, I'm 18 years old and suffer very badly from reoccurring tonsillitis and general illnesses such as colds and flu. I have had three different dates for a scheduled tonsillectomy canceled due to me having tonsillitis leading up to the surgery. However, at present I have a common cold and have an appointment to have this done scheduled on tuesday (3 days away).
Will this mean that my surgery will be canceled?
I am unsure whether if it is canceled if I will bother having it done at all as since going to university last year I have not had a week where I have not had either tonsillitis or a cold therefore it could just be a constant waste of doctors and my time.
Is it worth it?
Thank you
I think if you just have a good old common cold, i don't think that the dr. would cancel. They cancel if you are running a temp or have developed some infection.
Having the sniffles and a runny nose is one thing but if you have congestion and are having a hard time breathing due to a very full nose, it could very well be put on hold again. If it is canceled again, don't dismiss the surgery for good. You said that you have been sick a lot due to this tonsill problem, you really should have them taken out. It is not your fault that you are getting sick over and over again and your dr. knows this. Having them out will be a blessing, trust me.

Yeah, bbfeet9 is correct. I doubt that if you have a cold that they'll really care, because it is not a very heavy infection and they should be able to remove your tonsils. If you do have to cancel it, please still try to follow through on this surgery. It seems to me that you are experiencing issues with your tonsils, and they probably should be removed. Keep me posted!

I had sniffles and a running nose on the day of my surgery and leading up to it. They asked if I had any major changes in health I said no. Then a nurse was getting me ready and she asked if I was stuffed up I told her yes but it was probably just allergies. They still did it.

Denise,
I'm curious to know if they did your LG surgery, as my LG surgery is scheduled for tomorrow and she started a runny nose this morning. LG is 5 and a half years now.

My son is also 2 1/2 an is scheduled to have his surgery tomorrow. I am wondering, did they do the procedure with her having a runny nose? Also, how did she do afterwards? I am very nervous about his recovery since he is so young. Thank you!

Yeah this is normal because if there was bleeding from your tonsils nd it go into your stomach you'd have really bad stomach pains so it's probably just that.
