Wow, I am a 38 healthy mother of one. I am not currently taking birth control as my husband has had a vasectomy for years. During my last appointment with my doctor, she gave me a sample and prescription for Yaz to help me deal with my irregular and often very painful cycles. I am so happy I decided to do some research. I've been on several websites and continue to read the same thing about this pill. While in my 20's I was using Ortho Novum and had absolutely no problems. I think I'll call my doctor and have her change my prescription before I even start taking YAZ! I'm so sorry all of you ladies had to go through what you went through because of this drug, but thank you for sharing your stories. You may have just saved me.
I am a 24 year old non smoker. I was on YAZ for 1 month. I had a stroke that almost took my life. The FDA should reconsider this pill.
I'm a 21 year old and I, too, took yaz for five months, and I LOVED it. I had just come off of taking Yasmin, where i was depressed ALL month that i took it. But with yaz, I had short, light periods, easy everything...then I went in for a pap smear and it came back irregular with ASCUS. I was not sexually active, and i went on the pill to regulate my period, as I was told i probably don't ovulate. I was to be getting married, so i wanted to make sure i could ovulate for when I wanted to get pregnant. However 5 months into it, I turned yellow (jaundice) all over, got mono-like symptoms (which I tested for mono twice and they both came back negative), my liver functions went way out of whack, and i was tired and depressed. Then I looked at the pamphlet again that came with the pills and the "bad" symtoms matched mine. I wish it just ended there, but unfortunately one of the symptoms was cervical lesions, which I now have. They are stage 2 cervical dysplasia, which is CIN II, meaning moderate pre-cancerous cells.
There are better options for birth control out there. Now, the only type of birth control I can use are non-hormonal kinds, meaning like condoms, diaphragms, and the IUD Paragard.
I would recommend staying away from Yaz.

I recently discovered that YAZ has been causing all of my health issues. While it wasn't as serious as blood clots, it was certainly life altering. I started taking YAZ in April after my obgyn recommended it to help with acne. I had been on generic brands for 3 years with no side effects. By June, I was starting to have digestive issues. It started as weekly diarrhea and gradually turned into daily diarrhea. That alone can effect anyone's lifestyle. Then I started having nausea/vomiting. It would go away by noon most days and then just got worse and worse. I was having daily nausea and diarrhea and thought I had something horribly wrong with me. Then I started having anxiety about needing to use the bathroom. I wouldn't want to leave the house and would go into work late every day because I was worried about commuting 30 minutes. After visiting my general practitioner, endrocrinologist, and ob gyn I self diagnosed myself. All of my lab work (blood tests, ultrasound of my gall bladder, stool samples) and 3 pregnancy tests came back negative. With the prescriptions and those tests I spent $2,000. The doctors thought I had IBS or imflammed bowels and wanted to do a colonoscopy next. I lost 7 pounds in a few months time. that is not normal for me. It was the result of the constant vomiting, pooping, loss of appetite, and nauseous feeling all day.
After reading many blogs about others' experiences, I wondered if YAZ was causing this and it was my last hope. 6 days after stopping YAZ I was symptom free. My ob gyn thought that I was crazy for wanting to go off YAZ. She said "these are not normal side effects." She had never heard of anyone else having these problems. I printed off all the blogs and highlighted symptoms that were similar to mine just to show her I wasn't crazy.
If anyone else is having these issues, stop taking your pills to see if it helps. But avoid pregnancy...I hear that causes similar symptoms :-)

My daughter-16 years old was removed from Yaz after 10 months due to 3 days of shortness of breath and chest pain.
I am 49 yrs of age and am highly athletic (spinning instructor). Was on Yasmin for 1.5 yrs as the means of minimizing peri-menopausal symptoms (insomnia, major hot flashes, mood swings). Pill worked wonders and took away all the discomfort associated with the peri-menopause, UNTIL 5 wks ago when out of the total blue I had a stroke at 3 pm on a Friday. No family history of stroke what-so-ever. Went to Europe a week later where I learned about several deaths due to Yasmin / Yaz intake. Four young women btwn 22-25.!!! This was in the main stream news media. Unlike the U.S. where I believe Bayer (Yasmin manufacturer) lobbyists are much stronger than in Europe as the market is much larger. There is much more $$$ for Bayer to lose in the U.S. than anywhere else in the world. My 2 cents.
To all reading this and potentially concerned – get off of Yaz / Yasmin if you care for your life. There are other less invasive (deadly?) birth control devices out there.

First of all, I had NEVER been on any type of birth control, and was put on it only for medical reasons @ 40 years of age after having 3 children.
As of Oct. 29th, I have been out of work for an entire year! I was taking the YAZ pill for less than a month, and I developed a 'leg-length' blood clot in my right leg, was hospitalized for 10 days and on the 4th day was told I would have to undergo surgery since it wasn't dissolving with the shots/oral meds. I got out on Nov. 8, 2007 and figured I would be back to work within 3-6 months, but up till now my leg still swells and hurts.......
Please email me @ _[removed]_ with information.
Thanks for your help.

I was on yaz for two weeks when all of a sudden my left side lost feeling. We went to the hospital and found out later it was a stroke. After months of all the test you can think of the doctor told me it was becasue of my birhtcontrol Yaz!!
I recently started taking Yaz... a few days ago. I've found myself to be depressed, tired, short-tempered. My boyfriends also said I was up talking nonsense and yelling at him the other night!! It's scaring me. Anyone else have this happen? I'm going to call my doc tomorrow, but wanted to ask another question. I've always had severe PMS and taken Black Cohash to help my moods. Is this safe on oral contraceptives (whichever one I end up with)?
OMG!!! If your taking this birth control pill STOP taking it!! I have been on oral contraceptives since I was 14 and I am now 43. I had a Stroke due to this pill on September 27th,2008 and it has FOREVER changed my life!!! The first thing they did was take me off Yaz!!! I had my 16 yr old daughter in the Dr.s office this afternoon and her Dr. told me about a Class Action Suit maybe against the makers of Yaz!! None the less, we switched my daughters pills right away. I have NEVER in my lifetime of taking birth control EVER had so many issues with the pill!!! So tell you famly,friends,co-workers any one you know taking this pill, it's deadly!! I am SOOO in the suit if I can find it...
I am a 28 year old Yaz user. So far, I haven't had any major health problems, but I have noticed that I am much more moody than before. Yaz is the first form of birth control I have ever taken. I decided to start the pill since I continued my education and am in a serious relationship and do not want kids right now. After reading this, I am sooooo scared to continue taking this pill. I'm going to make an appointment to see my OB/GYN and find out what else I can do.
Good luck to all the women that have experienced medical problems from Yaz.

Hi,
I am 24 years old and a mother of 1. i was recently in the hospital for pulmonary embolism. I just wanted to add that when you see the commercials on tv for certain types of birth controls like YAZ they state the warnings and side effects. Also they warn you in the booklet you get with the birth control. So if you are to sue the birth control makers there might as well be no point to it because you should have read all the facts. Most of the time it is not because of the birth control..yes the birth control induces is but you have to factor in also if you are overweight, or have had a c-section or have had children then you are at risk to develop clots. I know this because it happened to me and it was explained to me..you see I did not read the warnings or pay attention to the commercials and now I have to suffer for it!!

About a year ago I was on Yasmin, for the first month or so I had a lot of spotting and bleeding but after that it worked wonderfully for me. I never had a problem. I have been off of it for about a year now and recently went back to get more but unfortunately my insurance will not pay for a yearly exam till early next year so my dr. gave me samples of Yaz b/c she was out of Yasmin, to last until my visit. Anymore I like to do research before I start taking any meds. After doing so for Yaz i am concerned if I should start it or not. Currently my period is like 18 days late and it has just been confirmed that I am not pregnant. I am really not sure whether to take it or not.
i AM AN ACTIVE, HEALTHY 52 YEAR OLD NON-SMOKER WHO TOOK YAZ FOR TWO WEEKS AND ENDED UP WITH A BLOOD CLOT IN MY ARM. I STARTED TAKING IT TO RELIEVE THE SYMPTOMS OF PERI-MENOPAUSE AND HEAVY BLEEDING. I HAVE NOW BEEN ON BLOOD THINNERS FOR 3 MONTHS AND MAY BE FOR A TIME UNTIL THE CLOT DISSOLVES. AFTER READING SO MANY STORIES OF THE SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS, I AM INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE MANUFACTUER .
To Alex: How do I email you in regards to the lawsuit? I have been on YAZ for soemtime now and ever since my health has declined. As others have stated, I have major gallbladder problems, fatigue, extreme weight gain (I eat a very strict), etc. Again, I don't need to list everything as it is all that others have stated. All I can say is DO NOT USE THIS drug. Don't go on it and if you are on it - get off of it. It has ruined my life for the past 2 years. I finally know the source of my health problems and can try to get healthy again.
