I'm starting too feel extremely nervous, is it normal to feel like this before surgery?  For those you that about to get it done or have had it done already did you feel like that?My fears are that I won't like the final result or that something will go wrong (which it probably won't ) Or I'm just nervous about the recovery period too or A m Ibeing stupid? Or is this normal?

I just had a rhinoplasty 4 days ago, my nose is so swollen now. I heard around day 3 swelling is at its maximum, so i hope it'll quickly improve from here.

I'm shocked that some of you have such prolonged swelling. My surgeon said this rhinoplasty swelling will last a few weeks for me. (My surgery was less than an hour--including the time for stitching--as it was only removing a piece of cartilage thru open rhinoplasty)

Even for my previous 2 rhinoplasties which were major surgeries, the swelling was completely gone within a year. Swelling degree and duration is determined much by how extensive the work done, so if you've had a long surgery like 3-4 hours u can expect about a year of swelling. But after that period, if you still have 'swelling' it's probably not swelling but scar tissue unfortunately, and that won't resolve so easily.

I have been going through exactly the same as you...only I have had 5 attempts and the last one was 6 weeks ago. The only difference is ..at first the nose seems to be a good shape then after about a month it starts to distort with scar tissue forming. Unfortunately, it's happening again and my nose is humping on top instead of being slightly curved. (Female nose) I am so lacking confidence that I avoid going out socially. :-( I have just sent photos to my surgeon (who has done my nose 4 times & another surgeon did my first nose op after a near death boating accident when I was 21. One thing word of advise...insist the surgeon do the revisions for free. My surgeon who is one of the most reputable in Australia is doing my revisions for free and also steroid injections and appointments when tried once. I have private hospital cover so no cost there. All I paid for was the anesthetist gap. Good Luck and be persistent to finally get the result you feel happy with as I intend to do also. :-)

Get a ultrasound machine(one with a tip for the eyes and nose) off ebay for about $80. Also get a evis red light therapy....Tuesday morning ebay or amazon for the swelling. Get a bionase or some type of a nasal red light for use inside your nose to bring down swelling inside...they can be purchased off ebay too....look for international dealers...they are hard to find in the US.

Go see Dr. C Spencer Cochran in Dallas Texas. He is THE BEST nose surgeon in the US and maybe the world. His results are exceptional. He reconstructed my nose after a very bad surgery and it looks incredible. I was so depressed by Dr. Cochran helped me get on with my life.

Hi asharpdj, I've just come across this forum and your message. I'm so sorry that you had to go through all those reconstructions only for it not to fix the problem, so frustrating! How's the result now? And are you feeling any better? I had my first septo-rhinoplasty 8 months ago, really happy with the result for the first 3 months and then slowly I started to notice a bump towards the end of my nose. Now that a lot of the swelling has gone down, I feel like the tip has drooped and has no definition, the nostrils are uneven, the bridge seems to have 'risen', and I think I have some kind of internal valve collapse (nostril indents and narrowed airways). So all in all, not happy! :( Looking into a revision this summer and hoping it won't lead to more ops. I hope you're happier now with your appearance, wishing you the best :)

Hi. I just bought a ultra sound machine. How often did you use it on your nose and for how long during the treatment?

To people experiencing swelling or scar tissue after rhinoplasty. i know this sounds like im a tree hugger , however we need to learn to love ourself and accept things the way they are and move on.  we can only hope that swelling or scar tissue will go down within time with taking great care (good heigine and diet). my story goes as follows, i got into a fight, fell on my face doing stunts in the bmx days and broke my nose when i was younger.. yet i never planned on getting it fixed because i still felt confident in myself and could still function and ui name it get a job pull women have a great social life etc..i loved what i seen whn i looked in the mirror with my nose being broken..but then! somewhere in my mid twenties someone mentioned to me i should look into getting it fixed and i let affect me and since i had insurance i decided to go to my hospital(ent) and complain i was having breathing problems which i did but really did not care to be honest..i did it more for aestetic reasons..my big mistake was not doing any research on my doctor because i could actually have chosen my doctor which i did not know because i didnt think it was a big deal..i figured how hard could it be to straightend my nose if this is what he does for a living..moving forward into the story after surgery week later..the doctor took the bandaged of and if at all possible it was more crooked than it was the first time.. i was like huh!??..he immidiately apalogize and said "i could go back in their and fix it"..end quote..i was already not a big fan of surgery specially cometic surgery..so when i seen the outcome i said no its fine and i decided i would just have to live with it..i never reported him or gave him a bad review..although now i found out that if i would have within 60 days of surgery the hospital would have been liable and would probably compensate me for my revision although i am not sure how that works..5 years later 2014 october 24th   i had done all my research and decided to go with a doctor in beverly hills and pay top dollar 16,000..i figured if i was going to do it..i wanted it done by a great doctor with great skills and a profile of patients that matched...well as nervous as i was to have a revision i went trough with it and i will say that 3 weeks post op my nose is somewhat inflammed still and i could tell theirs some minor scar tissue..and sure it bugs me ..but what i tell myself its still to early to tell and also most importantly regardless of the results i will never put myself trough that again.. because at some point u need to find a way to just live with it..i can say that he straightened my nose which is great thats what i wanted , but as far as my nose being smaller who nose maybe when the swelling goes down it will be exatly the same and maybe the scar tissue will not go down..but hey atleast my nose isnt crooked anymore thats the upside..nobody is perfect if u sit in front of the mirror and pick urself apart.. but if u learn to love certain things about yourself you can build your self esteem..and sure i hope like everybody else that the swelling and scar tissue on my nose will go down...but no its up to time and my body to heal itself..the best thing i do is eat very healthy eat oranges for vitamin c..take all natura veggie powder loaded with vitamins to help my body boost immune system and work optimum.. i use all natural face wash and cream..i took somebodies tip on here about using the cream inside my nose thanks for that by the way.....dont obssess so much about it and time will fly within time and learn to love yourself find things u like about ur nose not things u hate..nobody is perfect and if u are striving for the perfect nose u are going to waste a lot of precious time being unhappy
