I am so happy I came across a couple message boards on ED, after reading everything I've decided NOT to have this procedure.
There are just too many negatives after having this done, here are my reasons:

1. Weight gain- I am already 15lbs over weight, I refuse to have to fight to get off another10-20 more lbs.
2. Horrible cramping-I can't imagine dealing with anything more than I have now.
3. Foul odor-Who wants that?
4. Severe headaches
5. Wacked out hormones/Menopause symptoms-Crying, mood swings, anxious, night sweats. I'll pass on these as well.
6. Constant discharge.

I just don't think it is worth it, I think having my ueterous removed(keeping cervix and ovaries) would be better than what I am reading.
Thanks for all these post, I am really glad I researced this, it's been a huge help. o.O

I am so thankful I found this message board. I had the procedure 8 months ago and had similar heavy periods to before the procedure right after. Since then they have tapered off to heavy spotting, but I spot every couple of weeks instead of monthly. However, i still have horrible cramps and have gained 17 lbs. It depresses me terribly. I have never had problems with my weight and have tried unsuccessfully to lose what I have gained. I have increased my exercising, decreased my caloric intake, and still can not lose any weight. If anyone has had any success losing weight after this procedure, I would love to know what has worked.

I had this procedure Feb 2010....I was happy at first. I did have a longer recovery after the procedure. I had a D & C and then the ablation done outpatient. My recovery was well into 6-7 weeks. Then I had no period for 3 months, then I started cramping lightly then a light period (spotting) for 2-3 days. Then in July, I started having more cramping and longer period (5-7 days). When August and September came around I have had a period then off 2-3 days then again cramping and on a few more days, and this has repeated since August and we are now towards the end of September. I have an appt with my OB/GYN in Oct. I am going to tell them I just want the partial hysterectomy and get it over with. I orginally went to the dr because my periods were soooo heavy with clots and lasting 1-2 MONTHS! I had become so anemic because of these horrible periods. I have had some weight gain due to this procedure too...and losing it is harder than before. I exercise and cut my calories and still struggle to lose weight! I have a friend who is talking about having the procedure and I will be telling her my experiences and let her make the decision on her own. I will try to persuade her not to have it. I wish everyone could hear or read many experiences before they decide to have the procedure.

I noticed that the judgemental person who called everyone whinersposted his comment as GUEST...maybe because it is a male doctor being sued by a patient whom he did a endometrial ablation to and therefore cannot understand that women are stronger by far then men.....they have no clue what pain is and never will have a clue. So Dear Guest do not judge unless you have walked in all of our shoes!!! Sincerely, Laura. I had Endometrial Ablation in January 2010 it in Dec 2010 and I have never felt worse in my life!! I am 44, have no children and have kept the same weight from the age of 23 till now. Everything these women are saying I have and continue to go through. I believe the procedure along with my premenopausal symptoms are making my life hell!!

I am happy to have found this post. I am 43 years old and have been suffering with heavy periods due to fibroids for about seven years. Last year, I had a hysterscopic resection to remove the fibroid that was in the uterine cavity. The heavy bleeding went away (kinda) and instead of having periods that lasted 11 days with 5 very heavy days, I now have 5 day periods with 2 heavy days. But it's getting worse, so I was looking into alternatives. I also was considering getting an IUD, but because the fibroid is pushing back into the cavity, I am not an IUD candidate.

My "new" OB/Gyn suggested that I try the Nuvaring to help with the bleeding before trying any other surgical option (ablation or hysterectomy). I told her that I've never had success with hormonal methods. Well, this is my third week on the nuvaring and I'm having the super heavy bleeding to the point that I had to leave work early yesterday.

So last night and today, I've been thinking that I'll have to try ablation. But after reading this... no thanks. I'm really surprised to hear that the ablation was never intended to help with cramping anyway. I find that the pain is almost as horrible as the bleeding. The pain usually comes first and I think it's the worst, then the bleeding comes, and I reverse my thinking.

But the question is, what do we do about the pain and bleeding if this doesn't work. I'm thinking that I'll try natural remedies, herbal remedies, depends, whatever and try to stick it out until menopause...

:-( I wish I would have found this site sooner.... I am 36 yrs old, just had the Novasure ablation done 1mo ago. I was having heavy, break thru bleeding all of a sudden and after having an ultrasound, we decided since I was still relatively young, a hysterectomy was not indicated and the ablation would be the right decision. Had the procedure done and was told it was text book perfect, I would be back on my feet and things would be sooooo much better for me. HA! I have had nothing but 4wks of watery discharge, bloating around my waistline, and when the discharge finally slacked off enough for me and my husband to have intercourse, that only triggered moderate bleeding and although that has tapered off, is still happening, for A WEEK now!!! This is NOT what I signed up for. The cramps are steadily getting worse. I have to wear pads daily now - I thought I would be done buying them since I had this done. I should have known this would not go well when I had so much pain right after the procedure when I was told any "pain" would be minimal, or just a discomfort and that the fact I bloated to look like I was 8mos pregnant. I really was beginning to think I was becoming a baby about this, but apparently not if so many other women are dealing with this, too. Maybe I just should've left well enough alone or, just pushed for a hysterectomy. I hope this gets better as time goes on, but I'm beginning to think it may not? I just don't know what to think.

I had extremely heavy periods that got somewhat better after the ablation but I still have heavy periods, just not as bad.  I went from being hypothyroid to hyperthyroid (not due to the ablation) but this affects my weight a lot.  My thinking for a lot of you that have posted that you gained weight after the ablation is that maybe you were anemic due to the heavy bleeding (as I was) and if you aren't bleeding as much, maybe your anemia is cured and you've gained some weight due to that.  I obviously can't say that is what it is for everyone but maybe for those who have gained 10 pounds.  Just something to consider.  I may have gained weight after the ablation, but not more than 5 pounds.  P.S. I'm glad I had the ablation done because my periods are better but they aren't as light as I would like them.  I think it has a lot to do with my thyroid levels though because when I was really hyperthyoid (before being diagnosed) and after the ablation, I lost about 10-15 pounds and my periods were almost nonexistent.  It sounds wonderful but it is a dangerous place to be (heartwise).  Your thyroid affects everything!

I had a Hydrothermal Ablation and tubal ligation in 2003.  No period for 9 months but then it came back with the accompanying cramps & backache, bleeding light like when I was on the pill.  But 4-5 days of cramps/backache every 24 days that TOTALLY "cramped" my style and home, work, vacation, etc.

My doctor and I discussed a hysterectomy in 2010, but she measured my lining to potentially do a NovaSure ablation, and said we could so I did on 12/16/10.  I had been diagnosed w/ early stage breast cancer 3 days before, so perhaps should have put it off, but I went ahead.

Well until 7/2/12 my menstrual life was a dream.  No cramps. No PMS.  No bleeding.  No backache.  It was like men must have it, so great.  I started thinking about taking on new challenges, grad school, maybe a new job, etc.

Then 7/2/12 I thought "I think that's cramps!"  and sure enough, 4 days of cramps and backache (no bleeding) followed while on vacation.  Horrible.  I was devastated it was back, but hoping it was a one-time fluke.

Nope, 25 days later and here we go again.  Cramps worse than ever, backache.  On day 4 of it now.  Thinking hysterectomy, but I'm scared.  No bleeding.  Just horrible horrible pain.  Can't concentrate on anything else.

Weight gain -- I never knew that!! I wonder why that would be???  Hormones tied to the uterine lining or menstrual flow??  I don't understand.  I will ask my integrative med doc sometime when I see her.  My OBGYN will think I'm crazy and deny it's a possibility.

I was at my highest weight when I had my first ablation, and since the ablation in 2010 I have been on Weightwatchers but not very faithful.  I have lost 15 lbs in 8 months, slow going but happening.  Don't know about bloating because I had a "tummy tuck" with my mastectomy reconstruction.  Anyway, I'm sorry to hear (but relieve that I'm not alone) that so many women have cramps after their ablations.

On to hysterectomy threads I guess, I'm only 43, lots of time to go before these stop.  I feel like I'm in the prime of my life, I don't have time for this pain.

I had a D&C,NovaSure ablation and tuba-ligation done last April. At first everything was great and I felt like a million bucks. Energy out the butt, was loosing weight and no periods!! April this year I had a few small minor cramps in my lower stomach near my right ovary but I didn't think anything of it as I have a history of cyst. Each month they've gotten worse and worse. This month was total hell, I couldn't walk, severe back and lower abdominal pains that radiated into my upper legs, lost 15 pounds, vomiting and non stop crying and praying to God for help. 4 E.R trips later finally a doctor does an ultrasound on me. The last 3 E.R trips I was treated like c**p,even being labeled a pill-head by the nursing staff and finding out I'm allergic to Morphine! I've had 2 C.T scans done on me, one normal and one contrasted and both showed an enlarged uterus but was told I'm fine or I had a UTI! The last E.R visit at a different hospital form the last 3, I was describing the pains to the doctor and he told me to stop where I was at and that he wanted an ultrasound ran,he's herd of this before! The ultrasound found that I had 10mm of trapped fluids between the scar tissue and uterus wall, a 1.6cm cyst in my right ovary and 8mm cyst inside my uterus! When he came back and told me all of this I started to cry. He thought my pain was coming back but I told him no I'm crying because someone finally knows what the hell is wrong with me and it's not in my head like everyone else was telling me it was. To me it's bittersweet, I know what's wrong with me but at the same time I'm scared about possibly having to have a total hysterectomy at 29 years old. In all do honesty if I would have known this was going to be my outcome and hearing stories of other women suffering like me, I would have never done this surgery. I plan on sitting down after this is all said and done and writing a long letter to the FDA, the owners of the NovaSure machine and anyone else I can think of, they should know what this is doing to women and how it's tearing people's lives apart.

Sorry you're having this experience also, this is Purl again from the post above. I now get 4-10 days of cramps & backache, I have 2 small cysts on my left ovary found by ultrasound after 12 solid days of cramps. Grrr, no idea if it has anything to do with Novasure, but my problem is NOT fixed it is the same as before the procedure. Not sure of the next step for me, waiting to see month by month how bad it's going to be.
