There are just too many negatives after having this done, here are my reasons:
1. Weight gain- I am already 15lbs over weight, I refuse to have to fight to get off another10-20 more lbs.
2. Horrible cramping-I can't imagine dealing with anything more than I have now.
3. Foul odor-Who wants that?
4. Severe headaches
5. Wacked out hormones/Menopause symptoms-Crying, mood swings, anxious, night sweats. I'll pass on these as well.
6. Constant discharge.
I just don't think it is worth it, I think having my ueterous removed(keeping cervix and ovaries) would be better than what I am reading.
Thanks for all these post, I am really glad I researced this, it's been a huge help. o.O
My "new" OB/Gyn suggested that I try the Nuvaring to help with the bleeding before trying any other surgical option (ablation or hysterectomy). I told her that I've never had success with hormonal methods. Well, this is my third week on the nuvaring and I'm having the super heavy bleeding to the point that I had to leave work early yesterday.
So last night and today, I've been thinking that I'll have to try ablation. But after reading this... no thanks. I'm really surprised to hear that the ablation was never intended to help with cramping anyway. I find that the pain is almost as horrible as the bleeding. The pain usually comes first and I think it's the worst, then the bleeding comes, and I reverse my thinking.
But the question is, what do we do about the pain and bleeding if this doesn't work. I'm thinking that I'll try natural remedies, herbal remedies, depends, whatever and try to stick it out until menopause...
I had extremely heavy periods that got somewhat better after the ablation but I still have heavy periods, just not as bad. I went from being hypothyroid to hyperthyroid (not due to the ablation) but this affects my weight a lot. My thinking for a lot of you that have posted that you gained weight after the ablation is that maybe you were anemic due to the heavy bleeding (as I was) and if you aren't bleeding as much, maybe your anemia is cured and you've gained some weight due to that. I obviously can't say that is what it is for everyone but maybe for those who have gained 10 pounds. Just something to consider. I may have gained weight after the ablation, but not more than 5 pounds. P.S. I'm glad I had the ablation done because my periods are better but they aren't as light as I would like them. I think it has a lot to do with my thyroid levels though because when I was really hyperthyoid (before being diagnosed) and after the ablation, I lost about 10-15 pounds and my periods were almost nonexistent. It sounds wonderful but it is a dangerous place to be (heartwise). Your thyroid affects everything!
My doctor and I discussed a hysterectomy in 2010, but she measured my lining to potentially do a NovaSure ablation, and said we could so I did on 12/16/10. I had been diagnosed w/ early stage breast cancer 3 days before, so perhaps should have put it off, but I went ahead.
Well until 7/2/12 my menstrual life was a dream. No cramps. No PMS. No bleeding. No backache. It was like men must have it, so great. I started thinking about taking on new challenges, grad school, maybe a new job, etc.
Then 7/2/12 I thought "I think that's cramps!" and sure enough, 4 days of cramps and backache (no bleeding) followed while on vacation. Horrible. I was devastated it was back, but hoping it was a one-time fluke.
Nope, 25 days later and here we go again. Cramps worse than ever, backache. On day 4 of it now. Thinking hysterectomy, but I'm scared. No bleeding. Just horrible horrible pain. Can't concentrate on anything else.
Weight gain -- I never knew that!! I wonder why that would be??? Hormones tied to the uterine lining or menstrual flow?? I don't understand. I will ask my integrative med doc sometime when I see her. My OBGYN will think I'm crazy and deny it's a possibility.
I was at my highest weight when I had my first ablation, and since the ablation in 2010 I have been on Weightwatchers but not very faithful. I have lost 15 lbs in 8 months, slow going but happening. Don't know about bloating because I had a "tummy tuck" with my mastectomy reconstruction. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear (but relieve that I'm not alone) that so many women have cramps after their ablations.
On to hysterectomy threads I guess, I'm only 43, lots of time to go before these stop. I feel like I'm in the prime of my life, I don't have time for this pain.
I also am experiencing a lot of these same sypmtons. My hair right now i my biggest concern. My hair has been falling out by fistfuls for the last 11 months Has this sympton stopped for you? And when? All the doctors tell me this is not related however it started just a few weeks after my ablation. Thanks for sharing
Hair loss is a sign of hypothyroidism among ither things. Please see your MD. -Steph
