It works!!!
HI I HAVE BEEN HYPO.FOR ABOUT 17 YEARS NOW AND MY WEIGHT JUST KEEPS GOING UP SLOWY IVE BEEN ON 400 MCG FOR ABOUT 2 YEAR AND STILL THE SAME WEIGHT,,, NOT GOING ANYWHERE,,,,,,,
Today I was surfing the web to see if there was any new news about any of my health issues that could give me a mode come of relief. Instead I was gravely disappointed. I have decided I am ‘figuratively’ that person with no legs that others refer to when they feel confused, and blessed that they only have an ingrown toe nail! That was comforting! NOT!
My last bit of research to me to sa site about Harashimotos, the thyroid disease. I have had the symptoms of hypothyroidism ever since I can remember. As a small child living in sunny California, even in the summer time I would get up at night, turn on the furnace, drag out my blankets and sleep there… just to get a bit warm. I always got whipped for it… but at least 4-8 times a year good night sleep seemed to be worth it.
The hypothyroidism has only been confirmed for about 4 years now. I was a sweet size 14 weighing in at 160 when I met my DH. Year after year I have become “all the more for love’n” and currently weigh in at 265 pounds. He thinks I can control this, because the Dr’s tell us so. Some times I think that doctors, lawyers, politicians and used car sells men all went to the same school. :p My physical condition is depressing. I am not depressed… just tired and stressed. I am tired all the time; I have started and stopped my meds so many times it is not funny. I have tried all of them and I am so sick of it I can't see straight. I may lose 5 or ten pounds only to gain back 15-30 and I can always feel my body changing again. Doctors do not listen to me. They just want to stick me with needles, Dr & lab bills… prescriptions that work the opposite and smile as they say: “Just eat smaller portions”.
They never recommend exercise because I am physically unable to do them with the rest of my health issues. Yeah, right… do a treadmill while holding onto my walker! The fear of falling and bruising my legs is a genuine concern living with phlebitis. The degenerating bones in my lower back from osteoporosis are predicted to collapse any day now and leave me paralyzed from the waist down. COPD is so much fun too, as is sleep apnea and the wonderful sleep I get each night when my C-Pap mask sucks off of face! When all of that is a little at bay… my fybromyalgia and my arthritis flares up. The stress can aggravate my congestive heart failure; send me into my third heart attack or my second stroke! Crones, Diverticulitisand IBS keeps me hopping and acid reflux makes dining out an experience to treasure. (lol) I changed Dr.'s and with the first blood test; they changed my meds again.
On a scale of 0-10, 0 meaning absolutely no pain or discomfort an 10 meaning I am on the edge of murdering, and am already screaming and crying… most days I live between 5 an 8… but today is a 9… thus this most uplifting and positive piece of blogging.
I am pretty certain that you are clear on the fact that I have health issues, a weight problem and at 63, looking through my bifocals, even I can tell after writhing them down, these are not good things. I am so sick and tired of being overweight. When I got my full set of dentures I hopped they would be a deterrent. No. Theywere miss aligned and have proceeded to give me an extreme under bite making my face look 30 years older than I am! And now my challenge is even bigger and more urgent by because I have openly committed to being his helpmeet. My DH keeps telling me I could do something about it if I wanted to. People who do not suffer with these aliments do NOT realize what we go through. I am not a slob; I am not an over eater… I look like a glutton abut I am not! Every inch of my body hurts every minute of every day. To top it all off I have insomnia and it is allergy season all year round.
Again I repeat, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired… and all pushed out of shape!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recently read that hypothyroidism affects your entire body, which is probably the underlying culprit to all of my other medical problems!
Can someone PLEASE pray for me?
Hi there, just want to find out if your thyroid medication changed as well? I am also doing good diet and exercise, and for me it my dose for Synthroid came down from .112 to .100 mcg with the lose of 15lbs
Yes. Become a pescitarian. If you change your whole lifestyle of eating you will lose the weight and keep it off as long as you are consistent. I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 5years ago. My whole life I had trouble losing weight and when I got diagnosed I started really taking care of myself. Here is what I've learned helps:
Drink your pill with a full glass of water 1 hour before breakfast ( It is a fact that drinking one glass of water before meals helps digestion so this way u are already starting your day off well let alone the fact that u are also taking ur medication)
Eat SLOWLY, dont let stressful situations in your life make u inhale ur food!
Eat 5 times a day
STRETCH A LOT.. helps circulation.. enjoy stretching... when u stretch feel ur body, dont do it with a yoga video or anytype of video... every body is different, feel ur body as u stretch.... go in front of a mirror and look at your body, make realistic goals... It is hard to accept the weight gain but once u accept it u can lose it!! Believe in urself, I did.
Eat oatmeal, bananas, fish, dairy IN CONSIDERATION (if u are lactose intolerant like me I would recommend Rice dream organic original) drink protein shakes (Whey) Avocados
NO SOY PRODUCTOS
Take one Cayenne pill for metabolism support, HELPS SO MUCH
If u decide to become a pescitarian which I really really recommend, Take the following vitamin supplements: Biotin, Niacin, vitamin D-3, and Calcium... Take thyroid pill in the morning and these pills before u go to bed (calcium can alter the thyroid medication so u must take at separate times)
If you really want to lose that weight then i suggest u walk... Do activities with your kids and family or pets.
I use to weigh close to 150lbs and now I weigh 115lbs and I am 5'2 living with hypothyroidism.. Inform yourself because the thyroid is directly connected to the hypothalamus and can have a lot of effects on your organism if chemicals are unstable
NEVER SKIP BREAKFAST
Eat whole grains and beans.. Eat regular or dark chocolate covered almonds
Most importantly, inform urself as much as u can about hypothyroidism.. this is the only body u get, take care of it =]

Hi Joyce, I don't know your current weight but 800 calories a day diet robs your health. Here is the formula for how many calories a person with hypothyroidism should eat a day. 1. If using pounds , dived your weight by 2.2 - you'll get kg 2. Multiply your weight in kg by 25 ( 25 cal per 1 kg ) 3. Substruct 200 and the result - your daily des of calories. 40% should come from Protein, 25% from Fat, 35% from Carbs To LOSE WEIGHT with underactive thyroid you MUST EAT! Otherwise, your body will switch to starvation mode and will start to store fat. You have to increase your metabolism , not kill it. Give it a try, you don't lose anything. At the end, you may hit the jackpot.
I've been struggling to loose weight. I'm hypo & take 100mcg a day. I am mostly vegetarian but eat fish and have lots of beans/pulses/nuts. Please don't say these foods are bad!
Any ideas anyone??
My weight is 153 lb( app. 70 kg) and I was trying to follow 1200 calories diet recommended on weight loss websites. I was also exercising. What I have noticed is that I felt totally drained after gym (burning just 150 calories). I would come home and drop dead and only after two hours nap I would feel normal. My weight btw stayed the same. I began researching the net about diet for people with hypothyroidism and, surprise , The amount of calories I needed was much more than 1200. To be exact -1561 without exercising. I had to cut back carbs because whatever amount of carbs a normal person needs will make someone with hypothyroid balloon . Also, protein intake should be almost equal to carbs to bring up metabolism. So, now I feel much better, though it's hard sometimes to find / eat required amount of proteins. I guess I will have to supplement some of that with shakes. Anyway, starving myself did not bring me any good, it did bring fat though :) . That's the only secret to lose weight - get the right amount of protein, fat and carbs in GRAMS ,not in CALORIES. calories is an abstract amount of whatever you put in your mouth - you can get them from starch, sugar, bread ,meat, pizza, cola veggies - whatever. Unless you start to count how much of protein, fat and carbs your body must get you will not reach your perfect weight . So, fish, beans, nut are all good.
