Hi there
LEASE, Need some information, my husand is 53 years old and on a routine urine test showed alBumin was 618mgl his ressure was high even though on atacand 35 mg b ut he did not feel it , wsa asked to do a ultrasound renal, found a infrarenal aBdominal aortic aneurysm which did not involve the iliac arteries measure 42mmin diameter and 57mm in length contained hyoechoic mural thromBus , IN ABDOMINAL AORTA., kidneys are normal size and arenchymal thickness NORMAL. VELOCITY SEEN IN THE RENAL ARTERIES BILATERALLY WITH NORMAL RENAL AORTIC RATIOS nO FOCAL STENOSES ARE IDENTIFIED THEY COULD NOT GET THE iNTRARENAL INDICES AS HE COULD NOT HOLD BREATH. DID A CT SCAN WITH CONTRAST AND THAT TOO CONFIRMED THAT THE ANEURYSM IS 44MM IN MAXIMAL DIAMETER THE ANNEURYSM IS ABOUT 61MM IN LENGTH EXTENDING TO JUST ABOVE THE BIFURCATION , RIGHT COMMON ILIAC ARTERY IS 12.9MM IN DIAMETER AND LEFT IS 13.1MMIN DIAMETER. aRTERIES ARE ATENT nO SIGNIFICANT ILIAC STENOSIS IS SEEN. COMMON FEMORAL ARTERIES ARE ATENT OF NOMBAL CALIBRE SO ARE THE RENAL ARTERIES AND KIDNEYS ARE NORMAL NO OTHER INTRA ABDOMINAL ATHOLOGY IS DEMONSTRATED. WE HAVE AN MEETING WITH mR ADRIAN LING ON 29TH OF NOVEMBER I DONT KNOW WHAT HE IS GOING TO SAY, HIS MUM HAD AN ABDOMINAL ANNEURYSM AND DIED LAST DECEMBER WITHIN ABOUT 8 MONTHS AS THEY WERE WAITING TO OERATE HER IN JUNE THIS YEAR AS IT HAD NOT REACHED 5.5MM, HIS GRANDMA HD THROMBOSIS AND DIED, SO I THINK IT IS GENETIC, HIS FATHERS BROTHER AHAS AN ANNEURYSM IN STOMACH TOO AND HASNT GONE TO CHECK ON IT FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS,. mY HUSBAND ALBUMIN COUNT WAS 618 MG L AND CREATININE CONCERATION WAS TWEENTY .9 MMOL L, ALB AND CREAT RATIO IS 29.6 MG MMOL CREAT.
, hE WAS ON ATACAND 35 MG BLOOD RESSURE WAS HIGH SO WHEN WE SAW THE DOCTOR AFTER THE FIRST SCAN HE CHANGED IT TO COVERSYL 5MG, AND ASKED TO DISCONTINUE ATACAND, HE IS A SMOKER,.HAS TO DO 24 HR URINE TEST,
NEED TO KNOW HOW LONG YOU HAD TO WAIT TO GET THIS DONE
DID YOU HAVE BOTH ANNURISM AND BLOOD CLOT,
WHO WAS YOUR DOC WHO OERATED ON YOU
HOW LONG WAS THE OERATION, TAKE AND DID YOU HAVE BOTH THE ANNEURISM AND BLOOD CLOT,
DID YOU HAVE HIGH BLOOD RESSURE
HOW DID THEY FIND OUT AND WHAT WERE THE SYMTOMS AS MY HUSBAND HAD NONE JUST BY CHANCE THAT HE WAS FOUND TO HAVE IT
I AM WORRIED SICK, LEASE ANY INFORMATION OR QUESTIONS I SHOULD ASK THE SURGEON, I AM SOOOO SCARED BECAUSE OF HIS MUM AND GRANDMA, GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND I WOULD BE SO THANKFUL TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO HAS GONE THROUGH THIS HEATHER
I am 62 , and had a Aneurysm in my abdominal aorta that wwas 55mm in diameter. I also had a mural thrombos.
They perform surgery after the size reaches 55mm or more. They will treat with medication as the dia is only 42 mm. They will check every 3 months or so by Ultra Sound to see if the Thrombos has shrunk. They will operate if the diameter increases beyond 55 mmor gorws rapidly in 3 months.
I had a Endovascular Surgery last month. I was in hospital for 5 days ( in Bangalore ) , and was back at work after 4 weeks. After the surgery one feels weak and has fatigue for about 2 to 3 weeks.
For patients who are under 60 years of age they perform Open Surgery, unless there are other health issues such as a weak heart or COPD etc. After Open Surgery the repair is permanent. No more woriies. But it takes longer to recover than endovascular surgery.
GOD BLESS!
Ranjit
sO GLAD THAT EVERYTHING WORKED OUT WELL FOR YOU THANK GOD FOR HIS BLESSINGS,They did not give him any medication, as yet what medication did they give you and was it to shrink the thromBus HE HAS ALREADY SEEN THE SECIALIST, AND THEY ARE JUST KEEING AN EYE , NO MEDICATION HAS BEEN GIVEN AS YET. , HOW LONG WAS THE OERATION, MY HUSBAND IS ON HIGH BLOOD RESSURE TABLETS SINCE THE AGE OF FIFTY, WHAT ELse DID THEY ASK YOU TO DO EG. TESTS BEFORE THE OERATIONA, SO i could e Better ask the doctors, IN case they dont go ahead and ask him to do it, AS HE HAS TO SEE HIM AGAIN IN FEBRUARY , WHAT WAS THE SIZE OF THE DIAMETER IN YOURS, i THINK THE DOCTOR SAID THAT HE WILL BE DOING AN ENDO VASCULAR ONCE IT REACHES 5, IS ENDOVSCULAR AND OEN SURGERY BOTH THE SAME, WHERE THEY GET A STENT IN, YOU MENTIONED THAT OEN SURGERY THE REAIR IS ERMANENT WHAT ABOUT ENDOVASCULAR, SURGERY ISNT THAT THE SAME ERMANENET
tHANKS AND GOD BLESS YOU TOO
Your husband is already on medicines for High Blood Pressure. The only thing the doctors will do is keep the blood pressure under control.
My aneurysm was 5.5 cms in diameter. Endovascular surgery is using a stent , and takes about 1hour and 30 mins.
It is safer , and the patient can go home in 3 to 4 days.
Open surgery has a higher risk of complications and hospital stay is about 10 days. Plus he wqill need support at home for 2 x months. Endovascular ( stent) is a better option.
After Opensurgery , once your husband is on his feet , after 2x months, there are no more checks to be done.
But after Endovascular surgery , there must be an annual Ultra Sound check up.
The tests that need to be done are immediately before surgery.
Trust this helps.
Thanks, it is good to have some knowledge and there is some good news it assist knowing that you have gone through it successfully with gods BLESSING, WHEN DID YOU UNDERGO SURGERY, WISHING YOU ALL A mERRY cHRISMAS AND WONDERFUL nEW yEAR
Admitted to hospital on 3rd October.
Medical tests on 3rd & 4th October
Suurgery on 5th October.
Out of hospital on 10th October.
Good luck , Merry X' Mas & HAppy New year 2013!
hI THERE,
MY HUSBAND IS GOING TO SEE THE SURGEON ON 21ST NORMAL CHECK FOR HIS ANEURYSM, , WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT SORT OF MEDICAL TEST DID THEY MAKE YOU DO ON THE 3RD AND 4TH OF OCTOBER BEFORE THE SURGERY AS HE DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING WHEN I ASKED HIM IF THERE NEEDS TO BE ANY TEST DONE WHEN HE GOES FOR SURGERY, THE DOCTOR SAID THAT WHEN HE UNDERGOES THE OPERATION IT HE WILL BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ONLY ONE DAY, AND COULD GO HOME THE SAME DAY I SAID THAT I WOULD REFER HIM TO STAY OVER NIGHT. BY THE WAY HIS UNCLE 73 HAS THE SAME ISSUE HIS IS 5.4, HE TOO WILL BE GOING TO SEE HIS DOCTOR NEXT MONTH, BY THE WAY THE DOCTOR SAID THAT IF YOU HAVE KIDS WHO ARE OVER 4 THEY NEED TO HAVE ULTRA SOUNDS DONE TOO AS IT CAN BE HEREDITARY AND ALL YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS TOO SHOULD BE CHECKED AS MY HUSBAND HAD TO ASK HIS FAMILY MEMBERS TO GET IT CHECKED, TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS,
Hi !
The tests done are :
1. Ultra Sound to identify nature and size of aneurysm.
If they already know the above and it is larger than 5.5 cms in diameter , they will do a CT scan to check exact dimensions , and give that to the Stent manufacturer to get the correct stent . Then they will perform blood tests , and and ECG or EKG to check for diabetes or heart disease. If everything is okay , they will perform the surgery.
With Open Surgery , usual stay in hospital is 10 days.
With Endovascular surgery it is usually 3 days.
The surgery is pperformed early in the morning at about 7.00 AM. They will shave his abdomen, thighs , legs and groin to ensure there is no infection after surgery.
It is safe to check whether it runs in the family. Ultra sounds are safe , and gives you an early warning.
They do not operate until it is larger than 5.5 cms in diameter. Usually this happens after the age of 60 years.
God Bless and Good Luck!
Hi Ranjit
The doctor he is seeing said that he does not wait for it to get to 5.5 he does it when it is 5, not sure if it is a good or not I worry a lot as he has not quit smoking, anyway there is a higher source who is there for us and need to have faith, I will let you know of the outcome when we see him on the 21st of this month, Take care and god B less you and your family
CHEERS
Heather
Hi Heather,
The surgery has to be done anyway. Maybe the doctor has observed that the aneurysm is growing rapidly. Hence it is better to have it done a s a p. Recovery from surgery is faster when one is younger.
At 2.00 AM on one New Year morning, a long time ago.... I found myself out of cigarettes. I was getting into an overcoat to walk down to the all night gas station to buy some more. I happened to see myself in the mirror , as I was opening the apartment door! I looked at myself and said 'this is ridiculus!' That was the day I quit!
Your husband will do the same some day soon. As you said , there is a higher power !
Cheers and Good Luck!
Keep the fath!
Ranjit
