ok so I had my gall bladder taken out tuesday april the 26th. The night I came home from the surgery I had KFC for dinner. Thats right fried chicken, mashed pot n gravy, mac n cheese green beans and a biscuit oh yea and I had chocolate. I felt great this is now the third day after surgery I have been able to eat any and everything I want. I have been sick for a long time and I havent been able to eat good food without being sick so this is the greatest thing ever. I wish everyone had the same experiemce allthough I still have not had a BM(bowel Movement) but I am use to soft ball size ones so how bad can it be. I will keep yall updated and we will see if it turns out good. PEACE

Hi I had my gb removed May 24, 2011 I also have problems with my stomach but I don't have diarrhea but my stool is still yellow like before my op. I have no energy and have lost 40 lbs after the op I also had to go back to hospital because of obstruction in the duck. I also have the pain on the left side and in my back. I feel dissy alot of the times. Don't know if any one experences that. I think that because of the people who experiance diarrhea the body is keeping the fat on because of the lost of nutriance like someone who is on a stavation diete that is why they can't lose weight.

Hi, I had my gb removed in 2008.  I never needed help with going to the bathroom and after removal definitely worse.  Went to stomach specialist after my Dr prescribed cholestyramine just to make sure there were no problems.  The specialist took 24 vials of blood and ran every test in the world.  Everything was good but did say will probably use cholestyramine for rest of my life.  He was not surprised.  Also find acid is worse for me than fat to cause an attack.  Feels like a gall bladder attack.  Also found if I am empty or too dehydrated I will get an "attack" and I found dairy (milk or yogurt) helps until I get something to eat.  Water may help for 15-20 minutes but a glass of milk can hold it off for a good hour.  I just figured out the milk thing last week.  Sigh.

Glad to hear the lack of energy is part of this as well as the inability to lose weight.  I was getting really worried because my dr seems to think it is just diet and lack of exercise.  My thyroid went hypo the same year so was not sure if that was it.  Had my thyroid meds increased and that helped for a while but I noticed the tiredness is getting worse.  Diets dont seem to help at all.  Tried Weight Watchers but they really encourage fruits and vegetables and that causes its own problems.  I was taking cholestyramine 2 times a day but am able to take it one time a day now.  Found out for my it is better to take just before going to bed so it lasts through the night (used to wake up to the pain and would take a while for it to calm down).

Not sure if this helps anyone but good luck to us all.

My gall bladder was removed 6/5/2011 after 4 days of agonizing pain in the hospital.  Numerous tests were run - they wanted to be sure it was the gall bladder.  By the time it was removed it had started the gangrene process.  My recovery was great since it was done by laproscopy.  However, I have had bouts of diarrhea and strange looking stools.  I took a couple of anti-diarrheals and that checked it for about 3 weeks.  Now I have fever, nausea, and very urgent BM's with severe abdominal pain.  Everything thing I eat comes straight through and so far I've lost 14 pounds.  Any clues?

Although im sorry everyone is going through this, im just glad i am not the only one with these symptoms. I had my galbladder removed a little over a year ago. I had gall stones and sever pain. I spent several months on heavy pain killers just to ease the pain a little. I was told after my surgery that i would be able to eat anything i want and live a healthy life. I was fine for about a month and then started getting sick. I spend a lot of time in the bathroom with pain clenching diarrhea which leaves me exhausted. I have a two year old son, but i can do as much with him as i want because i am always getting sick. My regular doctor put me Bentyl and it sometimes works but not all the time. Sometimes i am getting sick even though i have not eaten anything. My husband is frustrated that im always sick and can never go out to eat. I try to explain that im not lazy, but being stuck in the bathroom getting violently ill really takes it out of a person. Im behind on house work. i catch up when i have a few days without getting sick. I'm turning 25 this year and i feel like an old woman. I hate enjoy life and i am often depressed about this. I am also gaining a lot of weight even though i cant each much and constantly have diarrhea. I put out more than i take in yet i keep getting bigger. My husband doesn't find me very attractive, which i cant blame him. I feel so unsexy and ugly and bloated. This was supposed to make my life better, but instead it is getting worse....i know i am throwing a pitty party, but im just so tired of being sick. i no longer feel like a real person. the days go by...my son is getting bigger and i feel like i am missing out on life. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel? i sure hope soo. im not sure how much longer i can take this.

It is very possible your gallbladder surgery and body changes are pure coincidence.  As a physiologist, I hear this complaint from women all the time.  As we women go through peri-menopause and menopause, we begin what I refer to as "male patterned weight gain."  As you lose your menstrual cycle, you are losing a body function that burns calories.  Those calories burned during that cycle can amount up to 3-5 lbs. per year.  Without changes to your healthy eating and exercise program, you'll begin to gradually add weight, primarily in the abdomen.  This is why women's risk of having heart disease increases after around age 50.  The worse thing you can do is quit your exercise program because now, you're burning even fewer calories.  So, we women must bump up the workouts and not only eat healthy, but watch the calories.  We shouldn't slow down as we age, we need to step it up.  Try getting with a properly creditialed fitness professional to help design a good program of strength and cardio.  Yes, the strength will help you build some muscle which will help boost your basal metabolic rate - muscle burns calories, fat not so much.  Exercise will also help your digestion.  And getting with a registered/license dietitian is also going to help not only with healthy eating, but eating better since you've had the gall bladder removed.  It does work and it can be done...it's just not always easy.

Had my thyroid removed almost 3 years ago due to cancer.  Have been on a suppression dose of Synthroid which should make me hyper, instead I have gained 23 pounds and have felt depressed, brain fog.  My endocrinologist had my B-12 level checked, they were in the very low range.  He said that may be the reason that I am fatigued all the time and feel like I am in a brain fog.  I had my gallbladder removed 11 months ago after 4 months of "attacks".  Had an ultrasound done before but no gallstones were present.  It was recommend anyway that it be removed.  Have not had any attacks since the removal.  Did some research on-line and found that the attacks could have been symptoms of the low B-12 instead of gallstones.  I just started taking B-12 and hope that this will help with the feelings of depression, not being able to remember things, having tingling sensations and counteract some of the weight gain due to the gallbladder removal (that is not one of the risks that the doctors don't tell you before you have your gallbladder removed).

I would suggest to anyone that has had their gallbladder removed or anyone with the symptoms of gallstone attacked ask to have their level of B-12 checked.  I wish I had done more research on this before I did but I was desperate to be rid of the pain.

I had my GB removed in April of this yr (2011).  I work in the hospital as an x-ray/ct tech and am constantly asking the doctors are my symptoms normal. No one seems to think a constant, random onset of diarrhea is normal.  My stomach is constantly churning and at any giving time I have less then five minutes to get to the nearest restroom.  This is a major problem for me being as a have an issue using public restrooms.  I dare not go more then 10 min from my house unless it is to work and even then I am praying throughout the day that the Lord has mercy and allow my stomach to stay settled until I get home.  I too have pain in my right side and back but also tightening in my chest.  At every chance I get I ask other patients who have undergone GB removal what their symptoms are.  Most often then not... a normal life was managed.  This leaves me to believe something is going on.  I am getting a CT scan to be on the safe side. Life is miserable but I remain thankful!

I am 30 yrs old and it has been two weeks since I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopicly from my belly button. 20th October and counting. It is true what everyone has been saying, I asked the doctor directly if I had to stay away from any foods and HE told me I could eat what I wanted. Which as far as I was concerned is insane as I know where the bile goes now and it does not aid in fat digestion in the stomach any more, it goes right into the small intestine. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

So using my common sense I have been keeping a food diary and recording my body’s reactions to certain foods, do I get pain? Discomfort? Diarrhea? I have been recording what I eat and drink for the last two weeks and so far the only food which has seriously caused me gas pain and some nausea was Chinese food and fried bread, so I now know to keep away from those. So far I have found keeping to a protein high diet and cutting down on as much fat as possible is working wonders for me. Stools are still a tad loose but I am still recovering.

As for the exercise I started back at my gym on Monday 31st October, and I have lost 7 lbs since my surgery. Those of you still with very bad digestion, remember your body can NO LONGER break down fat it will go right through you. Ironically our bodies require some good fats to keep the energy levels up so I can see why so many of you are tired all the time. I notice that a lot of you are trying to fix the problem of the diarrhea instead of taking stomach enzymes to aid with fat break down? Has anyone tried this?

My fitness instructor suggested I try Lypo: Lipase Enzymes as it is designed to help those of us who have had gallbladder removal but aiding the body in fat break down. I am sure you can find versions of this at your local GNC or somewhere similar.

I had my gallbladder removed almost 2 weeks ago and was doing great the first week, but I am now experiencing some issues I was wondering if anyone else has encountered. First, I suffer from a sleep disorder which is similar to narcolepsy, but I have had constant insomnia. Second, the shoulder pain from the gas subsided after about 9 days, but now my shoulder is so weak I can barely lift it over my head. When I saw the doctor he said the pain wasn't a concern because the liver still was getting used to not have the GB and was building up pressure which was being pushed to my shoulder. That pain is gone, but now it is just so weak that I can't hold my arm in front of me for very long. The last issue is that I cry at the drop of a hat over nothing. I am 25 years old and I just want to know that I am not alone in suffering from these issues. From reading all the other posts most people have pain or constant trips to the bathroom issues after surgery. Luckily I do not have any of that, but I have these other issues I hope someone else can help me with.
