i have the same problem. i figured that Chap Stick brand and Blistex would be okay, but neither of those worked either. the only kind that works for me, surprisingly, is Soft Lips Cherry flavor. i dont know if it's an ingredient in all the others that's not in Soft Lips, but it works.

I seem to be allergic to EVERY type of chapstick. I can only use vaseline now. I would try different chapsticks after several months just to see, and I'm still allergic. It's horrible. I have these red bumpy itchy rashes on my bottom lip. Does anyone know of any medication? It's already been three days.
I've tried using Chapstick and on the FIRST application, my lips swelled and got really red as if I had food allergy or something. It took about a week to heal. I stick to petroleum jelly now. It really keeps the lips moisturized and it sort of acts like a lip gloss because it's shiny on the lips.

I've had this problem all my life. For the past three or four years I've been using Burt's Bees lip balm and it's worked fantastically. Recently though, my lips have reacted to it badly, so I'm back to square one. Another good brand is Aveeno, they came out with a chapstick a couple years ago that never bothered me, but I didn't use it for a long period of time because Burt's Bees was better.
Perhaps I'll give Aveeno another go now. When in doubt Vaseline gets the job done ... I just kinda hate the stuff by now.

I am also allergic to chapsticks and sunscreens/blocks. And through the years I've learned that the hard way. What could it be in the two products that we are allergic to?
I also have the same problem as many of you. The only thing is that MOST chapsticks don't do this to me. it only happens with a certain type of chapstick. Cherry chapsticks are the most problematic and I stay away from those, though I've ran into problems with one or two other non-cherry. ^^ But i've tested a few chapsticks and found they work well, so I stick with those.
The top part of my upper lip and bottom of my bottom lip gets swollen/hurts and just plain feel odd, plus it burns whenever I put the chapstick on. They're usually not medicated, just cherry with sunblock, though perhaps one of the sunblock ingredients is doing this? (I've used SOME sunblock chapstick and they don't burn.) But it's not like I can stop using it. I live in Boston and the winter is horrible. It isn't just dry and hurts a bit. Sometimes the skin completely splits and bleeds. *sigh*

try using cortaid. It's in the pharmacy section... it tastes bitter but it really helped me when i had reactions to chapstick. Just put it on the outside of your lips.
I have had the same issues with Chapstick (assuming its the Chapstick giveing me my issues)
My lips started to get really dry so I started to apply mint chapstick. In about a week my lips got really blotchy. They were itchy at times as well.
I thought it might have been the menthol in the Chapstick so I switched brands to a plain non flavoured chapstick, but I was still having the issue.
I have vasoline but I hate how shiny it is (I'm a guy) and I'm not sure if it will work.

I had the same problem, everytime i used strawberry or regular chapstick my lips would swell up, start burning then peeling. :-(
I stopped using chapstick and started using carmex. The carmex made everything better within a week!

Hi All,
I have always been into using chapstick til about 5 years ago I started to get this reaction, from chapstick (all flavors and most brands and all lipsticks) I get a rash of small bumps that only I know are there, mostly on my upper lips but through the years traveled also on my lower lips. Then I found Burt's Bees (BB) and it worked, I have been hooked on it for like 3 years now. After using the BB i would occasionally get the same rash when I was under stress even if I was not using other stuff that I could remember. Well recently the reaction worsened, still only I could tell, but I saw a doctor and he was trying to convince me I might have herpes, which I know i don't. It is a weird reaction, a reaction non the less. So I don't know what to try next? I'm afraid. The reaction also lasts about two weeks. I will give the vaseline and the Aveeno one a try if I can find it. If anyone else has any other suggestions?
PS I never realized this was so common, I thought I was all alone.

I have the same allergy to chapsticks - they get red, swollen and itchy and feel kinda flaky. I use the Burt's Beeswax chapstick. That works fine for me..and of course vaseline.
wow oh my gosh!
i am allergic too!
my dermitologist perscribed Desonide for me and it clears right up! But it took alot of medications to get to that point because we didnt know what to use but now if I use some kind of lipgloss that I dont know Im allergic to I just use Desonide and it goes right away...
I only use all-natural chapsticks now and vasoline.
I am only 16 but I hope this info helps... I know I was so embarressed to walk around with that aweful rash!
Good Luck :-)

Recently my top lip was puffy. I didnt have any blisters or sore, it was just a little puffy. My boss thougth it was a cold sore ready to form but a sore never poped up. I used everything I had in my cabnet it went away in a week. I thing I had a reaction to some very old lip gloss
i learned i was allergic to chapsticks as a teen. it's unfortunate because i can't stand to not have something on my lips but i'm allergic to just about everything i've tried. the only thing that i've found that works EVERY time is elacon cream. unfortunately you need a prescription for it but if you can get one, it really works. as for chap sticks i've been using burts bees and that has been just about the best, although recently i've tried the blistex medicated in the small jar (not the stick) and that feels nice on the lips and i haven't reacted to it yet. i hope this helps!
It's weird because I always used the original chapstick but as soon as I used a flavored or the moistizer kind my lips swelled. It's the same brand I don't understand why I can use one and not the other
I used soft lips vanilla and my lips became swollen - I'm not just sticking to Vasaline
I am allergic to any type of chap-stick. especially carmax, when ever i put it on my lips swell up and stay that way for about two weeks unless i go to the doctor. i can only use vaseline which i dont to much like because it makes your lips so shiny.
