It's 100% Carmex. I just went thru a terrible 3 weeks of 'chapped' lips that later turned into bright red, inflammed, itchy, and burning lips. I'm 32 and I've never had a reaction to my lips. I originally thought it was a fungal infection cause I woke up (only using Vaseline night before per doctor recommendations) with white patches all over my lips. And my lips aren't gigantic. I had to brush the infection off to have my lips hurt times 10(had a pulse in upper and lower) and look even worse. I was on clotrimazole, anti-steroid, anti-bacterial, and using only lysine ointment in between. 2 days ago my lips were 99% better. My husband had Carmex in his car and I used it. Never thinking that was the cause, even though I never knew. THAT WAS THE CAUSE. 30 minutes later, right back where I started 3 weeks ago. I looked up the ingredients. Conveniently they are not listed on the Carmex jar. Stay away from Carmex!!!!

I had the same problem but I discovered a chapstick almost a decade ago and have not had the issue since. I live by it! It's called Dr. Dan's Cortibalm. Its only ingredient is 1% hydrocortisone. You can special order them at your local drugstore or buy online. Trust me you wont have the problem of red, irritated lips ever again!

Do not use chapsticks or balms daily, there is no need to an your lips soon become reliant on it to be moisturized preventing them from moisturizing  themselves, your body does that job for you most days, i see too many girls these days use chapsticks and balms excessively and one thing they usually don;t seem  to recognize is that they don't drink enough water, lip and mouth dryness are usually symptoms of being thirsty, also we all have different types of bodies ad some people are just more sensitive to things to things than others, we aren't all the same, all the more reason to only use something on  your lips once or twice a week, the rest of the time drink some water which will also moisten your lips.

I also had the blistery, peeling, swollen lips after using Cherry Carmex and the swelling would not completely subside after using Benadryl (and I already take Claritin daily) so I went to the allergist and was given a cortisone shot. It worked! I had used regular Carmex I had on hand before buying the the cherry. I had not noticed it was Cherry Carmex until I started searching for reasons for my swollen lips. I stick to petroleum jelly (Vaseline) now.

I am also allergic to something in Carmex. I had used it many years ago and had no problem with it. In fact, I had an old jar and used it and had no problems. At first I thought my lips had just turned redder, however, now I know that it is the Carmex that is causing the problem. My lips also feel tight and inflamed. I will definitely stop using it. Ingredients must have changed from balm years ago to the new product. WILL DEFINITELY STOP USING IT!!!
