I am almost positive I'm allergic to weed. Right now I haven't smoked in about 3 weeks because I'm looking for a new job so I'm detoxing but whenever I do smoke I get breakouts on my face. I know I have severe plant allergies which have been determined by an allergist but I just do not want to believe I am allergic to marijuana.  However I notice in this past 3 weeks, and every other time I have quit smoking for 2 or more weeks, my breakouts have gone down remarkably. It's kind of upsetting but I really think I'm going to have to quit. Alot of times when I smoke I will get an itch on my face and I already have sensitive skin.  Also, when weed comes in contact with almost any other place than my hands I break out in hives :(

That's ridiculous, you have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry to sound so negative but you shouldn't spread lies on the internet, people are inclined to believe what they read.

"about 5-6 years ago i started gettin palpitations and severe anxiety right after i smoked a joint (i read somewhere that it could be linked to new responsabilities in one's life) but eventually it went away"

Im 16 and having similar problems/symptoms to the quote. Ive just left secondary school and going into a sixth form college soon and this is probably the new responsibilities, how long did it take for the problems to stop.

I was a heavy smoker (pot) from the time I was around 11 until about 23. Then I calmed down for a couple years until I started college and moved a couple times. Since I wasn't around it much, I didn't smoke much at all, a dozen times a year if that. I'm 30 now, and for the past 3 or 4 years I've smoke even less, maybe a handful of times a year.

Yesterday, I smoked 3 hits off a pipe, went back to my beer and the party to do whatever. After about a half hour, I became extremely dizzy. I felt extremely disorientated and felt like I was going to faint. I didn't want to, but I didn't have much of a choice but to hit the couch (it was like 1pm on a perfect summer day at a cook out). Once I sat down on the couch, my heart was beating out of my chest, I was sweating profusely even though the house was very cool, I started "spinning", sick to my stomach, panic attack, breathing problems, my friends said I went pale white and I really couldn't move.

I have experienced some more minor reactions to smoking pot before, but nothing this extreme. I would usually just get really paranoid with moderate anxiety or panic attacks. This one literally knocked me out and I feel a little hungover now today.

I have looked at a few other websites and think I am also allergic if not to the pot itself, but maybe to a certain component of it or a certain strand of it or something. I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to strains and how they differ so I guess I can't say whether I really think it is or not.

All i know is, I'm fine when I don't smoke. Then when I smoke, I feel worse. So, I probably won't smoke unless its really weak ass stuff like some schwag. I think we were smoking nugs, dro, kin buds, dank whatever your lingo is. It was the higher THC content stuff.

I am thinking it might have something to do with my own genetics and habits also. Both my parents have been totally clean their entire lives, no drugs at all, no tobacco, no drinking, they don't really even take any medications. So one factor that I am thinking about is when I don't smoke for so long at a time and my body is so clean (I smoke cigarettes once a month maybe and drink about the same, eat healthy, work out, ect), my body's tolerances to foreign substances becomes just about nonexistent. I think this because I have had similar reactions to pain medication such as vicodin and percoset. I can only take half of these pills or I get a similar reaction, pale, breathing loss, weak, dizzy, ect.

I agree with a different poster in that this is something that deserves some attention from the medical community.

At any rate, I hope my post my further other people's search for the whys of situations like ours. It is a really freaky situation when it happens and you should search for the whys so you can learn to keep it from happening again.

Good luck :)

As a reply to all, I just wanted to say that allergies to pot are varrying just like allergies to everything else. It seems that most the people on here just have a skin reaction, but for me; if I'm near it (both being smoked or the dried plant) my nose starts to stuff up and if I continue to be near it my throat starts closing. I have been hospitalized because of it. I was near people who were smoking for almost an hour and I fell unconscious. I was out for almost a week. Just for info for people who are looking.

I first noticed my allergy to marijuana while standing in line at the theater when others were smoking I would get a sore throat and itchy eyes, nose and roof of my mouth.

Now I notice a slight reaction if the wind is blowing past some plants but if someone cuts the plants I progressively get worse. I thought that if I was repeatedly exposed to the area the plant was in I would get used to it. No way can I be around anyone smoking it! My health progressively went down hill to where I had a couple emergency room visits and thought I was going to die! I am on $400 worth of medicine a month trying to recover from my exposure. Just when I think I am recovering I get exposed unintentionally an go downhill again. My throat swells, lips swell and tingle, My chest hurts, my nose, mouth, ear face, some skin areas itch, bad, bad asthma, coughing, sore throat. Someone tried to tell me that smoking it will help my asthma.....I think not and will never take the chance! Note the person I was around is on medical marijuana and said he had to cut it as it was harvesting season but not a good  enough friend to think of my health...he thinks I am reacting just because I do not like him.... but I reacted the same before I ever met him just did not know anyone who actually used it. Too bad...

Hoyas ~ If you are that allergic, and your throat swells, YES, you COULD DIE! It's called anaphylaxis shock. If your throat or lips swell, trash the dope & drink a beer. Not worth it!! Better yet, ( as a recent PAST Pot Smoker of 20+ years ) ABSTAIN! I feel better than I have in years! Not "Cloudy", VERY clear. Headaches have lessened, as have my GI issues - - I feel HAPPIER than I have in a LONG time & my life sucks right now, LOL. Seriously though. YES, ANY ALLERGY CAN KILL YOU IF IT GOES TO ANAPHYLAXIS, WHY RISK IT???????? Peace to the RIGHT decision.
