Hello guys,
Even I have the same problem from many years. So, I visited ENT specialist. According to her, alternate nassal blockage is NORMAL as a part of nassal cycle; however for few people it causes disturbance because either the blockage is too sever or they have blockage due to non-symmetric bone/mass in the nose.
So, in my case, the bone in the moddle of the nose was not in symmetric place and it was slightly bent towards left nostril. Also, bone-mass in the left nostril had became bulged causing permanenet blockage in my left nostril. The blockage used to get worse in night if I use Fan or cooler. So, from years, I have been sleeping without Fan. If I do not switch on fan, it does not seem to be causing obstruction in breathing.
My doctor has advised a surgery on that. In surgery, my bent bone will be fixed in proper place and bulged out mass will be cut down. But, I am skeptical about surgery since I have heard that blockage issue returns back after few months.
Could somebody help me to take my decision. Has anybody seen person going through this surgery and what is the rate of success?
Thanks.
It´s normal to have one nostril partially or almost totally closed at a time. If they alternate everything is normal. It´s the nasal cycle. The problem is when they are not alternating and the same side is always congested and the other always open.
What is the pollution level that irritates the air passage? Nostrils require a helping by washing with warm saline ,in your case 2 times a day. It is an easy trick. If you are afraid you can use a filler initially. You can suck saline from a glass through your nose. Hope you will feel like doing. Good luck.
I have the same mentioned Problem.
I had chronic sinusitis and a deviated septum. I went for surgical intervention and the deviated septum is now fixed and centrally aligned. But now, I can feel that my nasal passage keeps alternating about every 3hrs. If I seelp on a side, the botomm nostril gets blocked.
Okay do you guys feel discomfort around your cheeck sinuses or near eyebrows on the side that is blocked?Because that is bothering, even if you call this alternate cycle as normal.
Secondly, the mucus! oh gawd, I have to be near washrooms or carry tissues alll the time! This is mainly allergic and If I try to put pressure on the blocked nostril to clear it, the allergy worsens.Have been taking anti-allergins, nothing seems to work.
Finally Stress, If I am chilling on a holiday, things seem to be fine. But if I am workring and sleeping less, the stress really worsend this! I feel I cannot gove my 100% into anything if this pain doesnt stop!

I have the same problem.
I had a chronic sinus problem earlier which I got myself treated for by an ENT surgeon.
After that, I developed this condition. Physically my nostrils/sinus are completely clear after the surgery.
I can breathe very well from either side if I try to. But in the normal state, its 80:20 from each side which I still don't seem to mind because its a nasal cycle and it alternates.
The problem is, in the side with very little air flow I feel pain. Pain around the cheeck sinuses and eyes. This completely takes my focus and I can't do other things with focus. And as soon as the cycle changes, the pain is gone form that side and starts from the other side.
Also, I am allergic to dust and in the mornings the nose is stuffy which I can clear for the 80% open side.
Any help here as to how to solve this would be great.
I'm trying out Yoda now, with 30 mins exercise every morning for stretching and open up the breathing passage.
I have the same issue!
Can people confirm if they feel same symptoms?
Also I get frequent nocturnal emissions (approx. 1 time per week). I am strarting to feel like this is related to my bad breathing while asleep, and my body being tired.
Can people confirm if they have this syptom as well?
Some suggestions:
- I have read that taping your mouth when going to bed has worked for many people in training the body to breath from the nose and made a big impact in their life. If someone would be willing to try, pls give your feedback.
- A book called "The power of your breath" by "Anders Olssen" havent read it myself, but apparently very beneficial.
If anyone has any other suggestions, pls post.
Iv tried anti histamine, homeopathic meds , cleaner living now consulting with internal med doctors.
Hang in there and please share if you find any cures for this.
