Hi there folks- I hear ya. I have a lot life changes in the past 8 months that have resulted in changes in my body, including constant hunger, fatigue and weight gain. If you haven't already, I'd really force the issue of a hypoactive thyroid with your doctors. Many times, if you go to them for a regular check up or physical, and they run your regular blood work, they'll check your thyroid, however they order the simplest, cheapest of the tests, which is very well-known for coming back with what the medical community calls a "False Negative." This means, that although your thyroid test comes back negative for a problem, it's not correct. There are multiple other tests that a good doctor can, and will perform, to really root out and sort through whether or not your having a thyroid issue. If you ask your doctor to perform the additional testing, and he or she doesn't, and just suggests that you go on a diet or workout more, seek a second opinion. Yes, you should be careful with what you are eating, and you absolutely do need to get exercise, but thyroid problems are sneaky and just doing the above two things will not help you out in the long run. Most of you are not lazy (though only you can be honest with yourself). I know I feel exhausted ALL the time, and I do get enough good sleep on a daily basis.
Also, evaluate what's going on around you. Like one of the posters said above, if you have a lot of stresses going on in your life, this may cause you to be anxious or depressed- which ARE medical conditions, and can turn into a very severe ones. See what you can do to change unhealthy habits or stressful, unhappy situations. Make changes where you can, make sure you're taking time for yourself and to do things you enjoy. Talk to your doctor, your family, friends, and if need be, a therapist.
Oh, and one last, very important thing- drink lots of water. make sure you're not dehydrating yourself without realizing it.
I know it's difficult, but you're not alone. Good luck.

I'm a 20 year old female and have the same issue. I exercise often, drink plenty of water, take a multi-vitamin, yet I eat more then anyone I know. I have a feeling it might be stress, or a way to relieve stress perhaps. This is a pretty new issue, starting about two months ago, and I've gained about 10 pounds since (which is a good bit for a girl who was 120). Any suggestions besides the stress?
I used to feel constantly hungry after I had eaten and could not work out why until one day I took an indigestion tablet and do you know what? I stopped feeling hungry, maybe give this a try!
The having no energy bit, I know it's hard to do exercise when you feel tired but try to push yourself to do it, sometimes you feel more tired when you haven't done anything as you are not stimulating your brain.

It is probably iron dificiency *if thats how its spelt* I would say have a doctor look at you and they'll most likely try boost your iron. If that helps I hope. I know I'm late .. :/
Hello everyone. I didn't thoroughly read all of your posts, but it seems like most of you are experiencing the same problems. All of these symptoms can be explained by thyroid issues. They are incredibly common and can usually be easily diagnosed by a simple blood test, done my your doctor. If this has just recently started and you get the blood test done, it may not yet show any altered levels of TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). The treatment for hypo- or hyper-thyroidism is taking life-long medication, but this isn't that bad. So, please go to your doctor soon with your symptoms and concerns and request this test be done.
I am a 28 year old female and about 3 years ago I was experiencing the same thing and I went and talked to my doctor about it. I was always very petite (about 115lbs and 5'3") and I gained about 15-20lbs pretty quickly. I didn't notice that I was actually eating more but I was extremely tired and I also noticed I easily got sick with colds etc... So anyway my doctor did some blood work and found out I had Hypothyroidism and once I got on thyroid medication if was a world of difference. I felt NORMAL again and this by no means will shed the weight for you, you will have to do that the good old fashion way by eating healthy and working out but you will have the energy to do that like you have been missing.
Good luck all.

Hi.
This is a common problem today, as we can see from the amount of people agreeing.
This sounds like it's mostly caused because you're eating simply carbohydrates which simply don't
fill you. The mark you want to look for when you're shopping is 'Low GI' which means low glyceamic index
and it means the sugars in it are complex and wont just give you a tiny burst of weak energy but will
spread out over a long period. I have the same problem unless I eat right, I usually need to eat 22% of my
calorie intake for breakfast - this has to be low GI food, sometimes baked beans on wholemeal toast, those are
two low GI foods. Think wholemeal and think sweet vegetables. Remember, calculate 22% of your daily calorie intake
then figure out what you need to make up that breakfast.
The tiredness may be due to over-excersize or lack of, and unless you're working out every day - it's not over-excersize.
Try neurostimulating excersizes like cardio-switches. Where you jog for a random amount of time then spontaniously start
doing star jumps, then press ups or sit ups. Don't count your movements, this is just to get your body assuming it's going to
have to change energy outputs rapidly.
also, you could be getting restless sleep. This happens to a lot of people because they assume the minute you hit the sack
you should drift straight off. Instead, no matter how tired you are - keep your eyes open for about half an hour
and just concentrate on breathing and being in the moment. This will release serotonin with aids restful sleep and you'll wake
up with a buzz.
1 more tip!
Set your alarm on your mobile phone to go off like this.
If you have to get up to get ready at say 6:30. Set one alarm to go off for 5:30, once you wake up to it
just turn it off and lay down - don't try to go back to sleep but just feel comfurtable. You may drift off into
a light sleep but this will be purely because you're stiff and worn out from sleeping, when the next one goes
off i promise you'll feel absolutely great and wide awake.
I hope this helps.

It also could be hormones! I am 24 and have experienced the same symptoms as well. Some days even after I eat and feel miserably full, I still feel starved. I am falling asleep all day even though I slept 9 hours the night before and I exercise 5 days a week so it's not from lack of exercise/too much exercise. I have PCOS and I feel this way whenever my hormones are imbalanced. Whenever they balance out I am never hungry and have plenty of energy. I know it's not because I eat badly, I obsessively watch what I eat and I am a nutritionist. As much as I try to regulate my hormones with just my diet, sometimes it takes bigger guns like medicine. Sometimes you can't help what your hormones are doing no matter how well you treat yourself. I would seriously consider talking to your doctor about a hormonal imbalance if it doesn't have to do with your thyroids.
It sounds like it could be a thyroid problem, both over active and underactive have roughly the same systums. Both makes you really hungry and tired all the time. While overactive would make you really skinny as it burns too much of your energy and fat way to quickly thereby making you really skinny or the underactive again not working fast enough thereby making you gain weight way too quickly.
The only otherthing i can think of is diabetic. Any how people it's better to get it check out quick. The hunger and the tiredness can get really out of hand like you feel you have no energy to do anything, unable to walk because your too tired.
I hope that helped abit guys, good luck.

Hello everyone...
I know there hasn't been a post in a while. I am a 21 y/o female and I have been experiencing many of these symptoms for some time now. Along with the constant hunger and tiredness, I also suffer from severe migraines. I will wake up in the middle of the night with hunger pains and a migraine. When I finally fall asleep I wake up in the morning to go to work with an even worse migraine. I have tried taking several OTC medications but nothing seems to help unless I can take it as the migraine is starting. I am also one of those people who is scared to see the doctor, probably because I am scared of what the diagnosis will be. My mom has told me that it's probably thyroid problems, as they run in our family. I also wake up in the middle of the night to pee, sometimes 2-3 times a night. It's very frustrating and I keep telling myself that I will go to the doctor... but it just never happens! As of lately I have been starting to gain a lot of weight... my mom was 98lbs until she was in her 40's. I am 5'2 and not weigh over 120... I'm not complaining about how much it weigh, just that the new weight has made me feel uncomfortable. I am beginning a new excercize routine and have been recommended to drink lemon/honey tea in the mornings to boost my metabolism. Which is supposed to help with the weight gain.... but we will see.
I hope everyone is doing better and have figured out what's going on with their bodies... good luck to all!

I am experiencing this same problem. However, I have seen two doctors. The first tested the calcium levels in my blood and various other bloodwork. A friend of mine, also had these issues with sleep and hunger. She did research and assumed it was diabetes. However, she was found out through her doctor, she had low calcium levels in her blood. She was put on medication to increase these levels and regained her energy and stamina. I on the other hand, am still on the search for answers. I'm only 18 and I've never been this exhausted. I usually am an awesome morning person. But lately even after a full night's rest I'm so drained the entire day. I am soon to be tested for diabetes and can't wait to find answers! But for your information, many vitamin deficiencies mimic diseases and disorders. B-complex is crucial to eliminate anxiety and stress, as well as provide energy. Do some research on supplements, it may be a good first step to regaining your energy! Good luck! :-D
I have the same problem, but I know my cause.
I suffer from social anxiety / depression, and sleep very badly.
The worse I sleep, the hungrier I'll be..
especially if I'm not at work that day.
And when I get back from work and rest, then the hunger really kicks in.
My plan of action is to sleep more.
I'm getting a maximum of 7 hours a night, and a minimum of 3..
it's nowhere near enough.
I'm starting to aim for 9 hours and see what difference that makes.

Research 'coeliac disease' or 'celiac disease' and see a doctor. You will need to take a blood test to determine if you may have it.
Side effects (that I had) include hungry all the time and being tired all the time.

I know I'm a bit late to the circus here, but for those of you that have been suggesting "just drink a glass of water" or "get some exercise" until you've had the symptoms that are being discussed here, you have NO IDEA how unreasonable your suggestions are. The constant hunger and constant lethargy could be from a variety of causes including thyroid issues, diabetes, celiac disease and more. For people that experience the hunger (i do as well) this isn't a feeling of "gosh I'm hungry" its more a feeling that your body is in desperate need of specific nutrients but no matter what you eat or what supplement you take, you never feel satisfied so you find yourself back in the kitchen seeking SOMETHING that will give you the energy and that satisfied feeling your body is craving. This isn't that "oh boy its almost dinner time - hungry feeling". I completely sympathize with everyone that is going through this and if my doctor (who is seeking natural remedy) comes up with a solution I will certainly come back and print it up. I urge everyone to seek the assistance of a licensed medical practioner. Start with someone that focuses on non-invasive methods and natural cures, if that doesn't work seek a doctor of western (we'll cut you open for any reason) medicine.
