Today I was watching a rerun of the Doctors show on TV and they were discussing Anal Cancer such as what Farrah Faucet died from. One of the symptoms that you you can have is ANAL ITCHING and changing Bowel movements and possible bleeding. The docs on the show wanted to spread the word so that people would go to their docs and get checked out if they have any of these symptoms.

Commonly fungal, like trichophyton rubrum (jock itch). This can be treated with OTC anti-fungals (try all of them, as they have different ingredients). If persistent, could be bacterial, like staphylococcus epidermis, for which antibiotics like those contained in triple-action Neomycin can help. With either treatment, you can use medication during the day and talc at night to reduce moisture (or vice versa), or you could try medication 24/7.

I meant Neosporin, not neomycin.

If all that doesn't work, just go see a physician, you should be seeing one anyway. All they have to do is look at it and either they will know or they'll take a swab sample to send it to the lab to know exactly what it is.

I agree with this. Plus, if you are embarrassed, please bear in mind that physicians see ten times worse on a regular basis. They will be more than happy to help you.

Hi, I also had problems with anal itching and I tried a lot of creams but finally this one worked really great for me. Now I got no itching problems at all. You can look at it here:

I have had this problem for years. I went through all the anti-fungals and Monostat. I will try Clariten. I have told my Dr about this and his answer was "a lot of people have this, it never goes away completely, you just have to live with it." Hell I am going to try Clorox bleach if I have to. This itching is incredibly deep and relentless.

I myself "had" anal itching for almost 13 years and esp, at every night..how many nights for 13 years!! No exception of at least one night! But now, it's gone!!! I'm telling ya! It's gone!

I don't have to scratch my anus and bleed and have shallow-sleep(being irritated by itching and scratching and being conscious) through the night any longer!

Recently I took a generic version of "Loratadine" tablet(pill) that is actually an active ingredient of "Claritin" allergy relief for 24 hours for hay fever, runny nose(by allergies) and etc. What it does is blocking "histamine" bonding to its receptors. This bonding is a main cause of most allergic reaction(e.g "itching" on your skin with rashes). The cause of "histamine" releasing(allergic cause) is varied; but if this "histamine" reaction in your body can be blocked, itching can't persist. This is what all "anti-histamine" drug exactly and basically do in your body(in your blood) when you take an anti-histamine allergy tablet from such as Claritin, Benadryl, Allegra, Zyrtec etc.

To get to the point, after I took "Loratadine" tablets (genetic version of Claritin and much cheaper, too) for 3 days (the actual reason was for my skin irritation with rash), the agonizing(esp. at night time with no sweet dream) anal itching is gone! And it's been about a week passed now and it's not coming back(should not...)! It's just one week but I had itching every day for 13 years without an exception of a single night; so... surely, based on the fact that I described above about the correlation between histamine and anti-histamine drugs, taking anti-histamine drugs(in my case, taking "Loratadine" 24 hour tablet) cured the disease.

So, do you want to try? Do it! :-) Take one 24 hr tablet every 24 hours for several days. I'd be very happy if I can hear that by any chance, anyone get cured, too b/c of the sharing of my story.

Good luck!

JCHOI!!!
THank you, thank you thank you.
Claritin worked like a charm. Was not able to sleep for a week. First peaceful sleep last night. Thank you again, it indeed did work.

I wash after almost every bowel movement. And my anus still itches! Even when I use a topical anti-fungal ointment - it still itches. I have minimal sleep because I'm scratching so much at night. But this only happens at night. I might have pin worms. I chew my nails is why....how does one get rid of them in our system?

25 years of anal itching. I no longer itch after finding petroleum based 1% cortizone . I use very little after bathing. I avoided the petroleum based products because I thought it was inferior delivery base. I was using the cream cortizone. I now think that it's the petroleum that has caused the itching to be gone. I am going to try using straight petroleum without the cortizone. I am so relieved that my itching is gone that I came back to this website to share my newly found relief. Petroleum. I even tried desitin baby butt stuff and it didn't work. Give this a try. [/enc]

I used a product called AnaNOitch to get rid of my problem. It helped right away when nothing else worked. You can buy it online.

Treat for Ringworm and see if that doesn't clear up the problem. A good anti-fungal cream should do the trick. Do not stop treating just because it starts to feel better. Ask you doctor which over-the-counter product he recommends. We used the Lotrimin cream and it worked just fine.
You may also ask your doctor to write a prescription for Pinworm medication which is a single pill. Pinworm causes itching in the anal-area mostly during the night when you are still and your body is very warm. If you scratch your anus you can actually get the eggs under your fingernails and pass them on to others. Treating yourself will do not harm and may solve the problem.
I agree with the good hygiene suggestion also. Wash with warm soap and water after each bowel movement and a little Lotrimin cream or spray will keep the yeast in check that lives naturally inside your rectum. Pure cornstarch can help relieve chafing if you are a person that sweats alot in that area.
Watch the junkfood and get yourself a good high fiber cereal and make it part of your daily routine. You'll have a much happier colon! ;-)

I have suffered sleepless nights for 2 years. Finally went to see my doctor and he prescribed a cream called Daktacort which contains a mild steriod and ingident to fight fungus. I applied it twice a day and within 3 days the itching has stopped. This stuff really works and I would recommend it as I went through the discomfort experienced by others on this forum. Good luck.
