Thank you very much... .
Most of the time, head shaking is normal. Sometimes it's because they are excited, sleepy, have an ear infection, are imitating someone, etc. If you have any doubts, get your baby checked out, but just know that most of the time your child is perfectly healthy and normal.
Good luck to everyone, when your instincts are peaked, nurture it and check it out.
I notice everyone is making comments about children at leat 6months old or older.....I was with a girl yesterday who's baby is only 8WEEKS old, shaking his head side to side, and his eyes appear crossed at times when he is doin it.
The older kids yes, VERY NORMAL....but a baby 8weeks...shldn't really know HOW 2 move his head so vigorously!!...These R those careful weeks, where we can't wait to see them start lifting their heads on their own...and to be doin something so much MORE than a common head lift was scary 2 watch.
It did seem involuntary, and very scary 2 watch...I am a mother of 2 almost fully grown men 21 and 18........This young woman is a new mom, and I didnt want 2 alarm her....but i love her baby boy, who we thout was my G.son (turn out, he is not)...eithr way...I'm only finding topics where pple think their OLDER babies doin it is cute.....8weeks isnt something he shld B doin yet in my opinion!!
My son is 6 months old and started this head shaking thing recently. I was very concerned. At first I thought Autism but that just didn't fit to me because hes very advanced for his age. So, I kept digging as I see so did many concerned parents. My husband and I have noticed that he does it when hes tired or figthing sleep. But we have noticed that hes rubbing or tugging at his right ear too. He has a doctor appointment on Friday so we shall see what is the cause of this. But I am releived to see that there are other babies who do the same thing. Because I do not remember my daughter doing this at all.
It is a faze. I also did this as a child until about age 6. Then I just stopped. No worries and please don't start giving your child some drug to stop him from doing this harmless method of putting himself to sleep. I'm now a faather of six and in my 50's and very happy and successful.
It is very scary. My daughter is now 12, but she did it from the time she was 1 month to about 7 months. We also thought it was autism or something. She crawled when she was about three months and walked at 5 1/2. My husband always said she was obviously extremely bright and was trying to process information. This may be true, since she is now gifted beyond her years. Just secure the head when they move. They turn out fine. Not trying to be funny but does the baby do it when certain people hold him/her. Could be bad breathe. My husband had that issue and she only did that with him or someone else with bad breathe. I will be honest and say that she did suffer from a speech impediment for the first 7 years of her life. So for the last five years, she is definitely making up for what she was left out of. I also put blessed oil on her and asked God to make her all better and he answered my prayer!
