I too have had my gallbladder out 1 1/2 years ago and I experiencing the exact pain that you everyone on this site is describing. My family doctor is now sending me to a GI specialist. Does anyone know the best way to get the doctors to listen to my problem. They seem to ignore what I tell them. I tell them that I get the pains right after eating and they are similar to the ones I had prior to my surgery. The back pain is horrible. All my tests with my family doctor have come back negative expect that my ultrasound indicated that I had a lot of gas in my stomach cavity. I am so frustrated with this whole process. Everyone thinks you are nuts!! I too am glad I found this site.

Hi

I had my GB removed about 7 years ago. After the operation i was wheeled back into hospital after 7 days again. I was throwing up violently and couldnt keep anything down. Once admitted they picked up that i had developed jaundice and was yellow and the throwing up continuted. They did a scan and it appeared that one of the stones from my gallbladder had also got stuck in the bile duct. But the pain was extremely unbearable i lie awake at night counting the hours until i could get my next pain injection. After that i felt okay for another week and then again i experienced pain and vomiting and was rushed back again, this time i had developed kidney stones and the stone was apparently so big that after i had received laser treatment my back was bruised black and purple because they had lasered my back so intensely.....i couldnt understand where such a big stone would have been hiding all the time. Nevertheless with all that said i have ever since then experienced the odd pain that i experienced with the gall bladder and jaundice every month or so and never did anything. Recently i have been experiencing it more often and exactly in the lower right hand side just under my rib cage back and its an internal pain as such. Just reading all these posts makes me think that having the gall bladder removed comes with its own set of complications which no one tells you about....has anyone out there received a successfull treatment for the after pains or should we keep searching..

I just had my gall bladder removed two weeks ago. I first had an ERCP to remove several stones then they took the gall bladder out the same week. After being sent home from the hospital I went right back in two days later with the same pain that led to the surgery in the first place. I was worried that there was a problem with my liver. While in the hospital they did a CT scan and blood tests. the CT showed nothing but the blood tests confirmed that I had a problem with my liver enzymes so they went back in and did another ERCP. The second ERCP revealed that there were several more gall stones that were either missed during the first ERCP or were dumped from the gall bladder during surgery. These stones were removed and my common bile duct was enlarged to allow for passage of any additional gall stones that may have been left behind. Since the second ERCP I have been feeling much better. I have some soreness in the right side of my back and right abdomen but I am feeling much better than before. I asume the lingering soreness will go away as my body heals from the surgeries. Maybe some of you are experiencing pain from stones that were left behind. It's worth talking to your doctor about.

Some thing that was supossed to be simple with no stitches .. turned out to be 2 hours of surgery.. 21 staples and 2 stitches to hold a drain bottle and tube..
I was also kept on Morphine and in the hospital over night..They releassed me in bad shape the next day because they needed the bed. My lungs have been loaded up bad with flem that I have to fight to get out every couple hours. They had my husband and son thinking I may not have made it threw the surgery..This was a mess.. Now i'm home still struggling and living on water and apple sause for now.I too am dealing with the back pain as well as the pain from staples and swelling in my tummy :-( .
I have a ton of questions when I got to get all the staples out next wednesday.. But i'll bet I won't get any real answers. The doc told me I had a couple staples because he had to go threw allot of muscle and couldn't get the camera out..
I didn't see the 21 staples until I got home and uncovered the holes.. Yikes !!!
I wish each and every one of you a safe and speedy recovery. Angel*

Hi,
I had my GB removed on 5/26/2008, after almost 7 months of pain and hurt. The doctors almost made it sound like upon removal, that I would feel better. But I actually think it got worse..
Everyday I am suffering from unbearable back pains, and acid reflux. I try to eat to fight it but the pain keeps coming back. The refluxes aren't making it better either. I am limiting my diet to just carbs and proteins because fats make it even worse for me. I was weighing in around 128lbs 9 months ago, but now I weigh in at 103 lbs. I am sad to see myself losing weight like this and can't stand this pain. I am a little bit relieved to see others with my problem, but I wanted to know if anyone got better? if so what medications did you take? What did you eat?
I hate showing myself like this in front of my husband and my kids, almost useless...
I would appreciate any response. Thanks everyone

D. All the above. Right now I am experiencing this pain and only find relief when I am home and can really relax. But I was able to come across some items that have helped me in reducing some of this suffering. These items were recommended by chiropractor friends.

First DGL, Deglycyrrhizinated licorice. "It is fantastic to help reduce the acid reflux and of course all natural. It supports the body's natural defense mechanisms by stimulating the mass, quality, and production of mucus, a major compound of the stomach's protective lining. "

Second,All-Zyme. "All-Zyme contains 10 digestive ingredients, many more than any other enzyme supplement on the market today! Proper digestion is essential for proper nutrition and those who have digestive disorders need the digestive power of All-Zyme with its special emphasis on the Proteolytic enzymes for proper digestion.

The enteric coating used in All-Zyme releases the proper enzymes at the correct digestive intervals. Those enzymes that work best in the stomach's acid media are released in the stomach, while those that function best in the neutral or alkaline media of the intestines are released in the intestines. "

Third, "L-Glutamine nutritionally supports the mucosal lining and the proper functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. It also supports the development of lean muscle mass. "

. I only know it works for me as long as whatever it is isn't severe. For instance right now. The pain would have most normal pain tolerance doubled over. My pain threshold is very high and sometimes to a fault because medical personnel tend not to believe someone who can walk in the office or ER by themselves.

Here are some of the foods (and spices) I find aggrevate my system:
Tomatoes
Chili Paste
Garlic
Black Pepper
Red Meat (steak, meat loaf, hamburger, beef strips)
Hot dogs
Pork
White Wine (sauce)
White sauces (garlic sauce, alfredo sauce, etc.)
Soy
Soy flour
Spinach
Artichoke
Mexican Food
Thai Food (including the fried rice)
Italian (if concentrated in marinade or sauces)

I have a great number of chemical allergies that affect my diet as well. MSG and Aspartame (NutraSweet) is fatal for me. Splenda doesn't mix well with me either. It causes migraines if I have any part of it. So I am very careful of what I eat and what is in my house. My husband is the cook too so this has been very frustrating for him. He is a Texan too.

Please call Jim and Janine. They have been great help in getting some relief. I hope this helps others out there too. If this info helps one person I am grateful.

Thank you to all who have posted. In my time since my surgery, June 26, 2008, I have regretted the gall bladder surgery and wish I had thought about getting more done before surgery. I am tired of hearing the same excuse, your body is healing. It's just air. No one else has complained of pain.

Prayers and best wishes to all,
MyThreeDaughters

I have had the same back pain described by many of you. It is under my ribs on my rear right side. When I complained to my doctor she sent me for blood tests which all showed no problems.

I had my gall bladder removed in 1997 and I do believe this is related.

If anybody finds a doctor who can sort this out it would be nice to hear about it.

I had my gallbladder removes at the age of 15 in July 07 because of chronic pain that would have me collapsing on the ground vomiting bile (as im sure many others are familiar with) Gallbladder disease is hereditary in my family with one woman (at least) from each generation getting it and it tends to come at a young age (youngest was an aunt who had hers removed at the age of 8). Although in my case the pain did not scease after its removal. Unlike alot of the cases here it was not a cdontinuous ache, it was the same at the attacks i would suffer from the gallbladder disease. So after verry many trips abck and forth from, the hospital over the last year they went through many diagnoseses. It has now been diagbnosed as billary diskynesia, and i have to have my bile duct split to stop it closing. For those of you suffering the same things as me, sugest to your doctor the idea of biliary dyskinesia (probs have not spelt it right). The surgery is risky but id rather that than remain in pain.

Hello all, I had my gall bladder removed almost 3 weeks ago after 5 wks of severe pain. I had just had hysterectomy, and 2 bladder procedures 7 wks earlier, but insisted my pain was severe. They did sonogram, and I was admitted into the hospital and had further tests which revealed my gall bladder had stopped working. Did emergency surgery and said my bile duct had diteriated. Its been almost 3 wks and I am experiencing pain under right rib cage/right side, goes around to upper back..and shoots sharply through back. Saw Dr today and hes giving it a month to see if by chance just still in healing process. Its like I am having a gall bladder attack and with 2 surgerys in 2 months, I hate complaining..but I know the pain is there and hurts really bad! Read these blogs from YEARS ago and its all the same...geeze..and yes Im thinking people are thinking Im nuts.
