SteveinPhiladephia,. Thanks for your post. I am helping my husband do research for best correction enlarged prostate. Would you please share y follow up since you had the Holep at Vanderbilt over a year ago, and who was your surgeon? Do you recommend? Many thanks.
Just checking to see how you are doing now.....I have a very similar circumstance and trying to decide what to do......by the robot or with HOLEP
Recently had HoLEP surgery performed by Dr. Nicole Miller at Vanderbilt Urology in Nashville, TN. Recovered quickly and well. I highly recommend Dr. Miller and Vanderbilt Med Center. Great experience and result.
Did you consider Dr. Dora in Tampa?
Hi Barry,
Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. It has helped tremendously. It seems DR. Krambeck has moved from the Mayo Clinic to Indiana Health. You spoke to highly of the Mayo Clinic that I am wondering if it is worth going to Indiana for Dr. Krambeck. Thanks so much!

Hello Steve, I am having surgery this Monday (Feb. 6) with Dr. Das at Jefferson. Frankly I'm terrified. I am having it for rather unusual reasons..I do have a large prostate (90 gams) which does give me moderate problems at night. But primarily I am having surgery to see if it will alleviate acute prostatitis attacks I've had over the past two years. I have suffered with chronic pristatitis on and off for over fifty years, and had a TURP done when I was in my early forties more than thirty years ago in an effort to help. I've taken so many antibiotics in my day it's become a real problem. I became allergic to sulphur drugs and Cipro no longer works well, both because of overuse. So I am taking the chance that this will help. Again, really extremely nervous about my surgery and recovery, so anything you can offer would be helpful. I do understand that Dr. Das has done more HoLEP procedures than almost anyone else in the country. I hope I have made a wise decision. Thanks in advance for your reply. David
Good to know your HoLEP went well. Did you have any incotinance problem? If yes, please describe it and how it was resolved.
If you have had your procedure, will you post your experience, results, and other reflections which might be helpful for those considering HoLEP? Thank you!
Can you provide any information about your experience with Dr. Dora?
HELLO... I just wanted to mention a Mayo clinic trained holep surgeon on the east coast.
Dr. Chandler Dora in the Tampa FL area performed a "holep" on me about 2 weeks ago... his office staff is wonderful and he is really nice too! I am feeling great there is still some slight blood tinged urine, but very faint and decreasing. No pain at all I was released the following day.

I believe May in Florida has Halep surgery,, a similar one. I',m not crazy about flying out to Minnesota from Cape Cod. Seems amazing that Boston hospitals- renowned- don'r seem to do it. Have you found anything besides Indiana??
I am contemplating HOLEP surgery and am trying to find experienced doctors in Maine. I have seen Maine Medical Urologists who recommend the surgery.
Just got out of Mayo, Rochester. Total estimate I signed was about $22,000. Since I have the hi-deduct F supplement to US MEDICARE, my cost may be $1,300.
I came from San Francisco and am very glad I went to Mayo. Agree completely how competent and caring.
Since I sent a complete local workup, I had only one busy day in clinic and then surgery the next day.

Barry, I just returned from Mayo (been going there for care since 1963) and had the workup for HoLEP. Your insights are very helpful and encouraging.
How're are you doing now, over a year out from the procedure?

I had mine done by Dr. Bandi in Washington DC. I believe he is the only urologist in mid-Atlantic region who does this surgery. Excellent doctor. Highly recommend him. Good luck!!
