I had my surgery 6 days ago and still no BM. I fee the urge to go and then I'll pas gas or the pain goes away. I drink Metamucil 2 times a day and I take stool softners 2 times a day and 4 15 min baths a day. TRying not to take the pain medicine since it can't can constipate you. I suffer from IBS with diarrhea so not being able to go is killing me. Help!!!
Any luck? What did you try? I'm having the same issues and it's been 6 days with no BM.
I had my surgery last week, 8 days ago. I had no intructions on post care and whatever the small piece of paper quoted was different from what the doctor told me after we met post surgery.
Recovery is extremely painful, but as far as possible I tried to minimise my intake of painkiller as they lead hard stool. The biggest problem is BM, had my first BM after 3 days then 5th and twice on 6th day. I ensured I eat the stool softer and a strong laxative. But even then pain during BM is beyond imagination.
Keep drinking water and have fibre laxative and do sit baths avoid pain killers

Try a glass of prune juice it will make you go, but be prepared for watery BM rather than solid.
Hi - I had my surgery 12 days ago, and I only started beginning to feel normal yesterday. Had I have known this surgery was so painful I would not have done it. I am now off the constipating painkillers & just taking paracetamol which is ok. Here is my advice to anyone thinking of this procedure.
-allow 2 weeks off work.
- drink plenty of water & take the stool softeners twice daily.
- stop the tramadol ASAP
- during each BM do the pregnancy type breathing, fast in and out - it helps you not to just hold your breath and push.
- use a wet wipe to clean after BM & immediately jump in the shower with as hot water as you can manage fit 10-15mins
- fill a hot water bottle twice a day with near boiling water and sit on it. Helps a lot!
- eat as much fibre as possible throughout recovery and beyond.
I'm still passing blood & very painful BM's but slightly better each day. Best of luck everyone, you all deserve a medal in my book!

I had a Hemorrhoidectomy on Monday, and it honestly wasn't that bad. I was asleep, woke up had to pee, then was sent home. I ended up vomiting a LOT because of the anesthesia, and was not able to consume nearly anything. I ate crackers and took pain medication. day two was a bit of a different story. I was on top of my meds and drinking tons of water, still only consuming mostly liquids, but the pain was starting. It wasn't unbearable with the pain medication. Days 3-4 were also not too bad. I did a lot of sleeping and sitting, light eating and kept on with the pain meds. Day 5 (Today) however was the killer. Today, I had my first BM and honestly I was sweating, praying, and reasoning with God. But after about a dime size came out, I stopped. I have been retuning to the restroom since. Beforehand I had been backed up and took Milk of Magnesia, drank a ton of prune juice, and drank another laxative from my doctor. I keep having to go but after the first time each and every time has been significantly easier. Its definitely not easy I have to go in a sits bath, then after hop in the tub every single time, but there is hope. Im pretty traumatized from the first time the BM went through. Just get over the first bump and everything else will be cake! It sucks im sorry thats the truth. but you are stronger than you think. ill keep everyone updated as my recovery progresses!
try to use the restroom in our sits bath. Its kinda gross but it was my only hope when I passed my first stool. It was very painful but I hopped right into the tub after and sat for about 15-20 minutes. It wasnt all that bad then.
I just had mine and it's 5 days post op feeling pretty good no pain what so ever knock on wood but I try not to strain too much to pass a bowel movement I had 2 externals and I another internal. first bowel movement was hell, I was constipated pain lasted a few hours afterward. After that was a sail
Oh yeah and I didn't take my pain meds but the first 2 days I did
Hi had a Hemorrhoidectomy on 17th August it is now two days later and I have not had a BM movement yet. I am taking a laxative and eating lots of fruit and veg and drinking lots of water. Does anyone know roughly how long I should wait before speaking to my doctor? I am passing a lot of wind which is painful so dreading first BM. Thank you for any help or suggestions
Hi I had the surgery on August 16. I had my first BM last night and second tonight. I called the doctor's office yesterday morning, concerned with the weekend coming, and I still hadn't had a BM. The nurse suggested prune juice. I had 2 cups yesterday. That worked like a charm. I've been taking stool softeners 3 times a day since my surgery and drinking lots of water, haven't really been eating much. Hope this helps!
Hi, I had my surgery on August 15. It's now Day11. For the first 4 days I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep and just felt ill. Then I discovered on one of these forums that the antibiotic I'd been given was probably responsible for all these side effects. I stopped taking it and quickly started to feel better. I didn't have a bm until the 4th day but after a combined dose of sennokot, lactulose and fybogel, had several painful, unpleasant ones throughout the day. Then it was another 4 days before the next one. It seemed to be a case of working out how much lactulose and fybogel to take to keep things moving. I frequently feel a pressure in the anus which makes me want to push hard, though it usually turns out to be gas. There's what appears to be a haemorrhoid obtruding from the anus along with skin tags. It becomes more swollen and painful after every visit to the bathroom but does settle down again after a while. On the whole I feel good, haven't used painkillers for a couple of days and I don't have the incessant bleeding I used to have before the surgery. Some folk have mentioned constipation from painkillers, but paracetamol doesn't do that. I also had trouble peeing for at least the first week but that's fine now. Sitz baths were good. The warm water helped me to relax. Good luck to all those going through the post surgery phase. It DOES get better!
I am going through the same thing. I had my surgery 6 days ago. The pain is so severe I can't take it anymore. I can only pee if I am in a bath tub. I can not have a BM. I need some help. This is to much. I also gave birth to 2 children drug free. I can handle that over this any time.
I had hemmroid surgery 1 wk ago today. Doc took me off bowel softeners and told me to eat normal, high in fiber and drink plenty. My bowels are moving quite wel and pain is getting tolerable. But I'm feeling so much pressure in my anal that feels like I have to take giganti bowel movement but I don't. Anyone having this problem? And if so. What can I do for it?
