Hello, my aunt originally started this forum as my now 10 year old son was born with only his left lung. He is doing well. Still gets out of breath easily but otherwise living a normal life. He has no congenital heart defects, but has the mildest curve in his spine due to one side of his chest being larger and one shoulder lower than the other. He plays a lot of football and does Kung Fu. He is a little lazy at times and isn't that happy about getting out of breath, so paces himself.

What are the 'ageing' problems you are experiencing?

I was born with 1 lung and my twin sister has both. I am now 51 and can happily say no general issues. Not knowing any better, participated in alot of sports and dance in my youth and as young adult.
More conscious of it now, say when exercising or uphills. Impact very obvious with recent hike around mountains ranges in Australia. However, would say being quite overweight in last decade has not helped and probably the bigger issue.
Maintaining healthy weight and regular exercise is critical. Generally, can do most exercise but obviously at your 'can-do' pace.
On a side note, also had 3 children and had since found out also only had 1 ovary. So it's amazing how the body adapts.

I was also born with one lung and a heart defect. I also played basketball and was a cheerleader. I'm now 41 and have lived a completely normal life. Cheers to you and your daughter! My mom always told me that there was nothing I couldn't do. Thanks to moms like her and you, anything is possible!

Hi my mom was born with this condition as well - she was born in 1944 and had lived a perfectly normal and active life- in fact she was completely unaware of the condition until adulthood. She had 3 normal pregnancies and gave birth to 3 children who are now adults with normal lungs- just recently at the age of 72 she was diagnosed with heart disease - she had a mitral valve replacement which was more complicated than normal due to the heart placement because of the missing lung- but she is doing great and continues to live her active life with her children and grandchildren:)

I, as an anaesthesiologist, came across a lady aged around sixty years in good health, posted for operation of fracture in upper limb, with one lung.

Hi there. I just got the news today that my baby has no left lung and his heart is beginning to shift to the left. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and utterly devastated. I'm curious, after a year how your precious baby is doing? I am trying to remain ever hopeful and hoping you have some insight to share. Thank you for your time.

Our daughter was born with only one lung (on the right) and no other complications. She will be 21 this year and has always been active and healthy never had any problems.

I am a 36 year old female born with one lung, my heart in my back and a narrow trachea that presses against my aorta. I did get winded easily, my face turned red quickly while running but I was a cheerleader, I played basketball and I have had multiple children with no complications other than my doctor insisting on c-sections to prevent any possible problems. I do get upper respiratory track infections and use an inhaler when needed. I also cannot live anywhere in high altitude like Colorado or Utah but I am fine. Your baby will be ok :)

Hi Carolyn so what was the outcome for your boy, 2010 is 7 years ago for me. We have a grand-niece who was born with her lung on the right side and they are going to check her trachea as it appears from the xray that it narrows quite significantly, she has been on the venitlator since she was born and is 3 days old today.

So how is it going with your baby, my grandniece has been born with one lung on the right, her heart appears fine and is on the left. she has a very narrow trachea and the doctors are going to check how narrow in two days. she is currently on a ventilator to support breathing and also has support to help blood pressure.

Hi how did you get on with your daughter. We have a similar situation with a newborn baby girl (my grand-niece), she appears to have most of what you've stated, her heart seems to be fine though. Our baby is 3 days old, on a ventilator and needs support with her blood pressure.
