im 32 and someone told me it the menopause
can that be true
I have not been diagnosed with BMS yet, now I am very afraid to go to the Dr. I started a few days ago with the insides of my lips, and my tongue BURNING:( I have no lesions or blister, no explainable reason why this is happening.. I think I have my answer, this all sounds so familiar....
Thank you.
Briefly, I had periodontal surgery last December and had problems starting in March. I went back to my periodontist, my dentist, and ENT doctor and my regular doctor, none of whom diagnosed it as Burning Mouth and finally I found my symptoms on a website for Burning Mouth.
There was an article written by a doctor in Boston who I emailed and asked if there was anyone near where I live (Sarasota, FL) that treats it.
She recommended a clinic in Ft Lauderdale at Nova Southeastern University.
I went there about three weeks ago a had a four hour session with a Dr.Paul Bradley.
He took my complete history, did a series of tests ( thermography of the tongue and mouth) and gave me a laser treatment of the tongue and did acupuncture on both my earlobes.
He recommended the following:
He prescribed the following:
- Clonazepam 0.5 mg : suck and spit three times a day and in the evening. Before I go to sleep at night suck and swallow to help me sleep
- Capsaicin mouth washes after every meal. Capsaicin is drug that has not been approved by the FDA but in place of that I use over the count hot sauce. I take a spoon full of water a drop 2-5 drops of hot sauce in it and rinse my mouth for about a minute. You get used to the burning taste pretty quickly
- Low intensity laser therapy to the tongue – I’ve had one treatment already
- A splint for my lower teeth that I wear when I sleep to keep my tongue from wondering.
My condition has improved but it has not gone away. Dr Bradley says sometimes it takes months to go away, sometimes it doesn’t go away, sometimes it goes away and comes back.
When I went to him I describe my syndrome as an 8. Today I would say it’s a 5.
I did have one day last week when I thought that it was going away but the next day it came back on me.
Hopefully this helps.

I don’t know how long you’ve had it but as you know it’s not pleasant.

Thanks for your quick reply. I went to an oral pain specialist at UCLA. I took the clonazepam . I made me so tired. Then I took neurontin and that made me tired. I finally decided to not do anything and it's no worse. I never heard of the laser therapy. I am just waiting for it to go away unless I hear of some magic cure. I chew gum when it gets bad in the afternoon. Let me know if you hear about any other ideas. Thanks!
Did you have any loss of taste after your laser therapy?
