Was doing a google on "burning skin" and it seems that I'm not the only one affected. I get small streaks and patches all over the body that last for about 1-3 days each. I've had them since I was a kid. Most of the time I have no burning areas, but sometimes they flare up. I've done some research and thinking...

It doesn't behave in any way like MS. Picture you have 10000 lamps that are mixed green, red and blue, with little white wires leading to them and now you cut off 100 of these wires at random. The chance that only red lamps will go out is of course extremely remote. In the same way, MS does not tend to cause the identical symptoms on different parts of the body. Besides, they would last longer typically.

Lyme, I don't know, in my case I've had them since I was small, and I've had tests so it's probably not that. Despite the fact that I've pulled out more ticks than I can count in my life.

There may be other conditions that lead to this, but again, I've had them for so long without any progression or any other serious troubles.

The hottest lead so far is a by-effect of anxiety, stemming from hyper-ventilation. Before you swear that you don't hyper-ventilate, check it. I didn't think I did either, but you don't really notice if you're breathing at double speed. So what I heard is that another thing that I get - small muscle twitches, fasciculations - can be caused by hyperventilation increasing the acidity of the blood. Fasciculations involve the tiny peripeheral fibres, they last for a couple of days and they are just about as localized, and they turn up in the same form now here and now there. So perhaps the burning areas are simply "sensory fasciculations"? The sensory equivalent to twitching... It would make sense.

These were some thoughts...

HI there, I like these thoughs. I think they offer some insight and the one I think that I would identify with mostly is the hyperventilation, as I can speak to the whole burning skin thing along with it. Anyone else with anxiety feel this way?

I have the same thing....I think it's related to niacin...though it does not happen every time I take it.I have found that benadryl relieves the symptoms.

I am a 52 yr old woman. About 5 yrs ago we put a water filter on our refridgerator. The next day I began having a horrible burning sensation on my skin when I was in my hot tub. It continued after I got out of the hot tub for days after awhile I got back in the hot tub with no trouble for a few days then it started again. This went on for a few months b4 I decided to get rid of my hot tub. But the burning continued. I had all kinds of tests done along with allergy testing and dental work to remove any metals but I still continue to have the burning with no explaination as to why. I did discover that drinking water would sometimes cause it and have since found that drinking natural spring water would not produce the problem at all. It seems that something is put in the drinking water where I live or something in my body occasionally reacts to something in the drinking water that produceses this burning sensation. I still cook with small amounts of tap water but can't eat or drink anything with large amounts of tap or purified water in it. I can no longer use Ice unless I want to make it with natural spring water. If anyone has any information as to why this is happening and what I might be able to do to solve this problem please let me know. I hate having to purchase water. It is so inconvient and environmentally unsafe.

Allergies especially in middle age people may and can cause burning sensation on the skin. This may occur with or without rash. Skin may seem moist by thought/feel but dry by touch. Go to an allergist physician, be tested. Simple medications can and will relieve the symptoms substantiating an allergy problem. There are many other possibilities for such symptoms but surprisingly allergies are often the last pursued. Food allergies versus all other possibilities is most often the cause. Drives me nuts.

Yes, I have had this before, my opinion is that your skin pore are opened due to heat and sun heat is absorbed, even after you go inside to cool down, the heat keeps burning because it is trapped inside your skin. For me, it use to take weeks for this to go away /d til this day it is still occuring, best recomendation is to just avoid exposure to any sun, and prevent more burning, good luck.

It all sounds like fibromyalgia with different reactions depending on the person...my advise is get a magnesium malate renew supplement or something with magnesium citrate and magnesium malate (its best for fibro) but the two combined are great.   the burning can be nerve pain from previous trauma..in the spine. the pregnant ladies with the arms tingling ..same your body is using up all its vitamen stores for your baby...go get a magnesium Load test down to make sure your not getting deficient..you may need IV therapy.  Fibromyalgia is the strangest thing I have ever experienced..when i first got it 16years ago and had panic attacks and developed anxiety from it cause I thought I was dying from something and no one believed me..that I was experiencing these moving symptoms and pain.  Exercise is the best thing for it..but if you told me that 8 years ago I would have laughed at you. Depending on where you are in your illness, until you are able to exercise take baby steps to getting well again. Remember we are what we eat too. Put good water, food and air into us ..that will make all the diffence in the difference in the world.  If you drink soda's do not touch anything diet..the aspertame can attack your nervous system as well, the phosperous in pop or fuzzy drinks, alcohol or caffine in tea/coffee can equally deplete your magnesium stores in the body..your body needs magnesium to function..as it controls the blood flow to the muscles, circulation and works with calcium and potassium and all those other mineral salts that our body needs to work. Your heart is a muscle so if the magnesium is low its likely not doing its job either...this can be very serious.   Take care and I wish you all well.

i have to cover up when i go in the sun or else were ever the skin touches i feel like im on fire, i get little red spots and i itch and i get sun burnt really easy. the doc just tells me to limit sun activities and cover up when i go outside and that seems to help abit but not completely. unless i just stay indoors til the sun goes away, but thats hard considering im a single parent and have two children, and i dont drive.
