I had surgery on July 6th. I had a total knee replacement.Complained on first visit to doctor that my skin was burning on left operated leg, sometimes redness. Over the next 3 months more over my body,at night was worse.I removed all medications 2 weeks ago and still experienced the skin burning sensation.I had tryed to eliminate, gluten, caffiene etc. What I discovered"LAUNDRY DETERGENT". I switched to Tide sensitive and had to reduce the wash load recomended amount and also send my wash thru an additional rinse cycle and also had to eliminate the dryer sheet even though that was for sensitive skin(BOUNCE) too. What a great night I had sleeping...you have to rewash all the bedding and all your clothing and use an extra rinse. Also, swith your "family" over to the same detergent so you don't get the residue of the stronger soap.Remember, any throws you use in your chairs etc. I am 57 and have not had any reactions after any of my surgeries at home but, I do remember a hospital stay after being hit by a car, I was in for 3 weeks and even with strong pain meds I felt the burning of the hospital sheets, but I never experienced it again ...UNTIL NOW! Hope this helps someone out there! Don't let them tell you it's depression or stress...look into this first!
I am taking Niacin too, and have had this in ,ild form very sporadically. LAst night I woke up and it was rather severe. I was burning and tingling and itching all over, and also felt like I was out laying in the sun all day. My skin was also very pink/red ( I am white). It was so severe I almost went to an Urgent Care Facility. I heard it could be the Niacin, and coupling that with a few very stressful days, I am hoping that was it. Will confirm with the doc.
I have had burning skin for a long time,i guess that is what my itching comes from.I keep telling the doctors at the VA hosspital and they just remain mute.I have neropoathy in my feet and possible in my left hand.I habve just been put on lycria..
That is BS what your doc is telling you I have learned its diet..all has to do with processed foods ect..Niacin is in alot of meat and lots of other foods..check it out
This burning sensation is caused by estrogen dominance. It com known in pregnancy and is very common in peri menopause
I have had the burning for over three years and also been to numerous doctors with no results. There must be a reason. There must be a doctor somewhere who is interested enough in this to try to find an answer. The burning is enough to drive you up the wall. I have it all the time except when I sleep. It's worse at night before I go to bed. I have empathy for each of you!
i had the same problem and i consulted with my family doctor. he told me to follow some steps daily in order to reduce burning.
firstly i soak my burn skin in cool water for about 10 minutes then i used to put antibiotic cream prescribed by the doctor and then
cover it with nonstick dressing. change the dress daily and these steps are for minor burning . if someone having severe electrical
burns then he should go to the doctor right away.

Thanks so much....these are the exact same symptoms i am having, with an unusual amount of family and friends dying or becoming very ill recently. I think it's time to practise meditation again and cut out the sugar!!! I found that running the effected area under cold water really helps and to keep hydrated. Sugar, alcohol and wheat is a no no!
I realize this was 4 years ago, but did you ever find out was wrong? My mother has been going thru this for 2 years and nobody can tell her what is wrong. I'm worried about her.
I've just experienced my second bout of the exact symptoms. It's as if I've spent hours in the sun. An intense burning, all over and my skin is red and inflamed. I'm trying to figure out what's at the cause and the only new thing I've added to my regiment is Niacin 500mg daily. So I'm giving up the niacin for now with hopes of a full recovery.
Nelle, the flushing effect from niacin is perfectly normal. It can be alarming and unpleasant if you don't know about it. Its best to build up to 500mg gradually, and in divided doses taken with food the flushing should be less. 500mg is too much to start taking at once and will cause heavy flushing.
