I am personally on a medication that is EXTREMELY constipating. I have no choice but to use laxatives in high doses. (no I will not name the particular laxative because I will not enable others wanting to abuse it.). I take an over the counter laxative that I take one time per wk. yes- I go to the bathroom once/wk. Since I do it this way, by the end of the wk, my weight is up. By the time I take the laxative, my weight goes back down because it is only eliminating the waste from my body that most people can do on their own. Recently I was very busy in court and before I knew it, it had been 2 wks. I had to take a higher dose than usual and I felt like c**p for 2 days after taking it. SO I decided to cut my dose way down and start taking it daily, therefore I am going daily now, and I am losing weight. HOWEVER- a recent blood test showed my Vitamin levels in my body are way, way low due to the prolonged use of laxatives- which I have no choice but to use. So now- on top of the constipating medication, the laxatives, I also have to take a NUMBER of high dose prescribed (not over the counter) Vitamins. Yes you loose weight. Is it REALLY worth it? Anyone wanting to do this is looking for an immediate "EASY" way out. In the end it is going to financially cost you way more than eating right and excercising. It's free to busy your ass working out in your own home and the self gratification is such a huge pay off. Not to mention- if you just lose the weight- what about the excess skin that you're going to have just hanging there because you didn't work out to tone yourself?!? To me, that's ugly and unhealthy looking which people will notice. If you don't have "time" or "willpower"- you're lying to yourself and have deeper issues than just being a little heavy. It always comes down to other peoples perception of ourselves that makes us feel the way we do. If you want to lose weight to be more "socialbly acceptable" then you need to surround yourself with people that aren't that shallow. Get some help. Do HARD WORK. Feel good about yourself, not sh**ty because of how you think other people view you. Good luck.

WOW!! Anyone who is reading the ridiculous regards above from kay81 from over year ago, the one in newspaper-type font... please do not listen to her!!

I am a Dietetics major at a University, and the only way to properly and healthfully lose weight is by following a balanced diet and keeping active. For the record, a diet is not something you go on to lose weight, it is the food patterns people follow throughout the day. If one were to change his or her diet, then they would be following a new diet, or being on a new diet. He would not be on a diet.

Another thing, celebrity's go on crazy diets all the time because they have the means to do so. If we all were meant to follow these crazy fads/ideas, then there would be no use for government run, nutrition-related websites.

Never go on a laxative diet, or any other crazy fad diet that requires one to only eat certain things, or nothing at all!!

Put in the proper time and energy and you will be rewarded with results.

Remember: In order to lose one pound/week, you only have to cut out 500 kcal's/day from your normal routine.

First of all you are beautiful. Beauty lies within. To lose weight, all you have to do is exercise regularly and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Do not do anything that is unhealthy because it will only hurt you in the end. Keeping a positive additude and doing breathing exercises to reduce stress also helps. If a person is stressed, they tend to eat more and eat unhealthy foods. So keep positive, exercise, and eat your greens! You are beautiful no matter how much you weight. Trust me =)

people will always give you grief on this subject... but honestly unlike every one else who chose to reply i know from my own personal experience , yes they do speed up weight loss but high fiber eating and a little working out would make the process faster as well. how ever its is extremely painful and , if overused can cause serious health problems which are hard to correct ... i tried it as a teenager , fat cheerleaders aren't socially exceptable so i tried it and it worked. i stopped soon after it started the pain is alot to deal with

using laxative is nt gud idea... go thrue this information in case of loosing your weight..

It seems like half the world is trying to lose weight right now and many are restricting calories and hitting the gym. While these aren't bad options for either health or weight loss, they aren't the fastest or most effective ways to lose weight either.

Fastest and most effective way to lose excess weight is to cleanse your liver.

WHY?

Your liver is your prime fat burning organ and it's also your prime detoxification organ. So, when your liver is overwhelmed with toxins - which are incredibly common these days - it makes it challenging for your liver to get around to burning fat. And when this is the case, weight loss is very difficult - no matter what you do. This is exactly why most people struggle when trying to lose weight and this is the reason it so often seems like an uphill battle.

But when you ease your liver's detoxification burden, your liver will have the space to burn fat. And since that's what a great deal of people want, it makes sense to help your liver along by detoxifying your liver.

HOW?

 The liver is the major fat burning organ in the body and regulates fat metabolism by a complicated set of biochemical pathways. The liver can also pump excessive fat out of the body through the bile into the small intestines. If the diet is high in fiber, this unwanted fat will be carried out of the body via the bowel actions. Thus the liver is a remarkable machine for keeping weight under control, being both a fat burning organ and a fat pumping organ.

 If the diet is low in fiber, some of the fats (especially cholesterol) and toxins that have been pumped by the liver into the gut through the bile will recirculate back to the liver. This occurs via the entero-hepatic circulation. The term entero-hepatic circulation describes the recirculation of fluids (consisting mainly of bile acids) from the gut back to the liver. The enterohepatic circulation is very large, with approximately 95% of the bile acids being reabsorbed from the last section of the small intestine (ileum), into the portal vein to be carried back to the liver. The liver re-circulates these bile acids back into the small intestines and the entire bile pool recycles through the entero-hepatic circulation six to eight times a day. If this recirculated fluid is high in fat and/or toxins, this will contribute to excessive weight. A high fiber diet will reduce the recirculation of fat and toxins from the gut back to the liver. This is vitally important for those with excessive weight, toxicity problems and high cholesterol.

 If the liver filter is damaged by toxins or clogged up (blocked) with excessive waste material it will be less able to remove small fat globules (chylomicrons) circulating in the blood stream. This will cause excessive fat to build up in the blood vessel walls. This fat may then gradually build up in many other parts of the body, including other organs, and in fatty deposits under the skin. Thus you may develop cellulite in the buttocks, thighs, arms and abdominal wall. If the liver is dysfunctional, it will not manufacture adequate amounts of the good cholesterol (HDL), which travels out of the liver to scavenge the unhealthy cholesterol (LDL) from the blood vessel walls.

 If the liver filter is healthy, it allows dietary cholesterol to be shunted into the liver for metabolism or excretion through the bile. A healthy liver filter is essential to properly regulate blood cholesterol levels. Poor liver function may increase your chances of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. If the liver does not regulate fat metabolism efficiently, weight gain tends to occur around the abdominal area and a protuberant abdomen (pot belly) will develop. This is not good for the waistline! Another sign can be a roll of fat around the upper abdomen, which I affectionately call the "liver roll." This is often a sign of a fatty liver. It can be almost impossible to lose this abdominal fat until the liver function is improved. Once this is done the liver will start burning fat efficiently again and the weight comes off gradually and without too much effort from you. It is not necessary to make yourself miserable by following a low fat, low calorie diet.

 Many middle-aged people with excess fat in the abdominal area have a "fatty liver". In this condition the liver has stopped burning fat and has turned into a fat storing organ. It becomes enlarged and swollen with greasy deposits of fatty tissue. Those with a fatty liver will not be able to lose weight unless they first improve liver function, with a Liver Cleansing Diet and a good liver tonic. If you have a fatty liver it is vital to be patient, as it can take between 3 and 12 months, depending upon the amount of fat deposited in the liver, to remove the excess fat from the liver. After this accumulated liver fat has been removed, weight loss will occur easily. If you have a very severe case of fatty liver it can take several years to lose all of the excessive weight. However, this is very successful in the long term and provides the best chance of restoring your figure and your health. Fatty liver is common and doctors often tell their patients with this problem not to worry too much because it is not serious. But if you have a fatty liver, your chances of high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes are significantly higher. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to find a fatty liver in adolescents who consume a diet high in processed foods and soda pop.

“So, make your liver healthy to achieve fastest weight loss along with healthy food and hitting the gym”

you're still growing, prella, and you need to give your body some time to adjust. i know what it's like to have a few extra pounds in high school.. it sucks. i was 4'9 (still am) when i was your age and weighed 120, now i know that may seem small to you, but on someone my size, i wasn't exactly "model material". what was worse was that i also had a younger sister that was tall, slim, and very pretty, and would get all the guys. i can't tell you how much i wanted to believe all the gimmics out there- the latest work outs, fab diets, and even as far as not eating or throwing up.. but, what i did was drink about eight glasses of water ( i know it seems like a lot, but it's really not) a day, ate healthier options (salads with a tbs. of catalina, instead of a heaping of ranch, etc.), tried to fit in at least 30 min. of exercise (anaerobic [yoga, jumprope, etc.] for 10, and then aerobic [running, zumba, etc.]) five times a week, and only left myself one day to have a small pop, or a small back of cheetos. i know it seems hard, and it will at first, but i'll give you some tips to make it easier; try to spice up your diet. you don't have to go for the same boring salad everyday,  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***! also, see if one of your friends would like to become your work-out buddy. surround yourself with people that will be supportive and get you motivated to eat another healthy choice, or push you for another ten minutes on the treadmill, because from my personal experience, it is so much harder when you have people doubting you and judging you when you mess up once or twice. if you keep on being consistent and keep working really hard at it, it works! and don't beat yourself up if you go for a brownie, just try to minus it with a couple of carrots, or add another ten minutes to a workout. you're beautiful, no matter who or what anyone else thinks! (and it's nearly impossible to lose 20 lbs. in one month... be realistic!)
