It has been over 4 months now since I had the IUD removed. The first few months I was still having issues but things have been slowly getting better. Slooooowly... but they are. I don't take Valtrex 1gram a day anymore. Only when I feel the virus. Note: I posted about being 44 and having HSV2 for 20+ yrs and was doing fine till the IUD. Stuck it out for 5 months of OB hell and now I am 4 months with it out. I am so glad it is behind me now.
As an aside, for the ladies who are finding out they have HSV please do not look to blame yourselves or your husbands. This virus can be in our body from the day we are born and lay dormant in wait to strike your body at its weakest time. Women experience more painful symptoms than men (mine were flu like and the most painful nerve pain in my legs, the leg pain lasted for over a year off and on too). And as some have said you could have caught it 20 years ago and never have known, while most think the virus is only active with open sores it is good to note that the virus can shed itself at anytime so being open and honest with any partner is a must. I have had it for 4 years now, 2 years of which it took me to start to learn about it and come to terms with it, plus forgive myself, and it took 2 years for me to even consider dating again as I felt very gross and disgusting because society let's be honest people who don't know about the disease have a lot of misinformation in their head. We're not bad people, we just have to manage better with our emotions and mind and be healthy all around. I am sorry any of you have the hsv virus as I don't wish this on my worst enemies, but you're still lovely and amazing ladies!

I don’t know if you’re still on this site but yes. I had the same experience. I was a healthy 23 year old and got Mirena in 2013. A week later I started having outbreaks almost constantly. A year after that, severe pelvic pain (specifically clitoral pain), I have been struggling with yeast infection since. I can’t seem to get rid of it fully after extreme diets for years, boric acid, tons of probiotics from food, pills, you name it. I read recently about silicone toxicity from Mirena. Maybe it triggered the outbreaks in all of us? I got Mirena removed in 2015. Still the same symptoms. I’m on 2 grams of Valacyclovir everyday and that’s the only thing that has stopped the outbreaks and lessened the clitoral pain so I can at least sometimes have sex and exercise.
I was a healthy 28 year old. I got the Mirena inserted, and then seven months later, I get my first outbreak, shockingly diagnosed with HSV 2. I have had 1.5 years of agonising herpes outbreaks since. I’m going to have it removed. Here is hoping it will stop these damn back to back outbreaks! We need to spread the message. How do we start a class action on this, if anything, for awareness to others???
