Yes! I just had my tonsils out from constant strep throat and my vet asked me if I let my dog kiss my face.... (I personally don't). He said that children who suffer from constant strep may be getting reinfected by their dog, because they carry strep in their mouths bud don't get sick from it! So, I completely agree....check the dog!

I had chronic strep for a little over a year originally diagnosed around 22, during that year I put off the surgery due to my education and commitment to extra curricular studies. I was able to manage my immune system and some of the symptoms of the infection with accupunture, for those who are looking for alleviation after a tonsilectomy. I had my tonsils removed as an adult when I was 23 or 24. I was good for years, then suddenly 7/8 years later came down with strep again. I am want to know what are the chances of me getting chronic strep again, I remember my doctor at the time said that I need to be very careful not to contract it again. Also it's more painful, (feels like healing from the surgery all over again) now when I do have strep after having my tonsils removed.

If you don't mind me asking how did they check to see if you had strep considering you just had the tonsillectomy 6 days ago. The only reason I ask is because my son who is four just had his surgery 7 days ago and I think he has strep. I was wondering if they to the throat culture.

I'm 14 years old and have had a tonsillectomy two months ago. Yesterday morning I woke up and had a terrible soar throat, I thought it was because I left my fan on at night and it dried my throat. So I drank a glass of water and went on with my day. Later that night I was at dinner and the pain was so excruciating it felt WORSE than have a tonsillectomy. I think I have streak because I'm really tired and last night I was so cold I had to have three blankets, (usually I'm super hot at night.) I feel like total c**p and I have to go to California in five days!

I was diagnosed with strep throat today. I had tonsils/adnoids removed 34 years ago. Yes strep throat can happen after surgical removal of both. Hope everyone feels better soon. It's a painful condition.

Yes you can. I had a T&A when I was around 4 years old. The last case that I had of Strep was a couple years ago and it was a very bad case of it.
