I get everything you say here I am the same with the acid, I have breathing problems after heavy drinking sessions tight chest, heart pounding, I use the inhaler and it does nothing I've been into hospital had my lungs xrayed fine I have asthma and I score a better peek flow then my docter who does not have asthma, I feel my breathing feels weird wen my acid is playing, like you say the doctors are not convinced maybe it's anxiety, I've woke up after heavy drinking felt like sh*t like I can't breath gone out again drinking again and I just go back to been drunk and relaxed again, so I think some of it is the acid but hangovers bring on a lot of anxiety

Hi guys, just wanted to add to this as I've been following a bit and haven't commented yet. I have all the same symptoms as many of the posters above and have yet to find a cause.

Me: 28 years old, fit healthy (train a lot), been drinking since uni at 18 which was heavy (5 days a week min) and then binge drinking most weekends (fri / sat) since then. Had this feeling for around the last 3 years and have no idea what is causing it. i am also quite big and have a high tolerance, so drink more than most (usually sneaking rounds in between the usual rounds). Had all the docs tests heart, lungs etc and they can't find anything.
Symptoms: main annoying one is the tight chest feeling and the feeling that i cant catch a breath, difficulty breathing generally, chest pains on left side (less these days).

Things I've noticed: only seems to happen if i am sitting upright (maybe tight chest muscles), happens a few days after drinking but can last for a week (usually would drink again by the weekend). Happens after drinking caffeine, even after decaf these days. Is worse if in a situation i cant easily get out of and is generally worse after eating meals (large ones).

Things i think it might be: most likely is withdrawal symptoms (know that none of us want to stop drinking), dehydration (electrolyte tabs seem to help), anxiety, nerve damage, SIBO, vit/mineral deficiency (.e.g magnesium or b vits).

What seems to help: meditation, electrolyte tabs, reading this post and knowing other people have the same thing. Would be good if we could work out what it was. Something i read recently was that tight muscles around the chest (so the diaphragm and the Intercostal muscles) could be stopping our breathing. Whether this is to do with the dehydration, or some magnesium deficiency it could be worth looking into. All good to say stop drinking but would like to know what is causing this..... is likely withdrawal if i had to guess. i don't drink regularly these days once per week max, but seems to still have an effect on me. i dont think i have been more than a week or two without drinking, should try that really...

Ive read every post on this here and commented a few times over the years.
I had been suffering some chest pain on the left side and it stopped me from sleeping as when i turned over to sleep on any side it would hurt and have big discomfort. After 4 nights of this I went to bed and laid on my back, and I think I sat up and leant forward and i felt a major burble, like two giant farts of gas escape from where the pain was coming from. I have felt a lot better since that gas seemed to escape. This is going to be a big part of my investigations into this pain.

I'm glad to hear others are experiencing the same symptoms but you were really the only one who mentioned that you were feeling in mostly on the left hand side (where the heart is). This has been going on for 6 days now and not getting any better, in fact, I might say it's getting worse. The past couple days it's actually caused me to feel weak and light headed. I've seen the doctor and again he just told me I'm having a panic attack. I wanted to tell him the only reason I'm panicking is being I'm experiencing sharp pain and fluttering in my heart! Very frustrating and worrysom. I went for an ECG and blood work today. Hope we get to the bottom of it so I can stop thinking I'm dying!

I also want to add this was after throwing up quite a bit. I was a bit hungover in the morning but it wasn't until after aggressively vomiting that I started feeling the tightness in my chest.

Alcohol is a depressant, so i believe it could be slowing down the nervous system, causing all these weird things to happen

The only solution is to stop drinking. If you can't drink only once in two months.

I'm still experiencing this but I'm about 75% sure pounding as many glasses of water as you can the next morning (and before bed if possible) alleviates the symptoms. I also think that stress plays a factor (not necessarily psychological stress, but physical stress on your body from the alcohol).

^previous reply con't:

... I've also think silent reflux may be a factor.
