Hi Angie,
Just to share with you that I too have a similar condition. Gastritis is a painful experience for me and I have had it since 15 years ago. During attack which usually happens after dinner, the pain goes on for hours. It is so intense that I do eat much during dinner.
After all these years of suffering and countless visit to the doctors I finally found out that certain food is off limits for me.
Food that trigger my gastric attack are chilli (paprika), dairy products, tea, smoking. If I quit these 4 items, I would feel much better but it's kinda hard.

Angie, I have had this pain since getting a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis/GERD/hiatal hernia, and after the doctors to evaluate every possible cardiac condition, I forced them to figure this out. It took a second ER visit after 24 hours of agonizing chest pain, with shooting pain to my shoulders, back, neck, and jaw, for them to give me this answer: it's esophagitis. The duration of the pain is inconsistent with cardiac causes, and the dosage of steroids I'm on for the UC should nip pericarditis in the bud, so it must be esophageal damage. Here's what they've got me taking: Protonix at breakfast and dinner, Zantac at bedtime, and Maalox supplementally to cut down the acid further and promote esophageal healing. I'll report results over time, but one thing I noticed is that if I get a little bit of overexertion of muscles in the affected areas, the pain tends to decrease at bedtime. Consider a multi-antacid strategy and a mild-to-moderate stretching regimen as one possible approach, and see if it helps!

take out wheat.  I had the exact same problems and I have been pain free for a year now.  I used to have this every two to four weeks where I would not be able to get out of bed and be in severe pain.  Try it for two weeks and you will never go back.

I have had this problem for 5 years. The doctors found helicobacter after an endoscopy and biopsy. I was prescribed eso kit (triple therapy) containing clarithromycin, amoxilin and esomeprazole. I recovered within one month. The problem came back again after 1 year I got the same medication and I recovered. I took more than one year without consuming bread or wheat products and I was very okay. I resumed eating bread and within 6 months of bread the problem came back. I have realised that the major cause of all these problems is from wheat which eats away the stomach lining giving way to harmful bacteriae to take over. Without eso kit you wont get rid of this problem. All the best
