I am a 24 year old male and for the past 4 days i have been having pain in the right side of my chest, this only happens when i swallow food but i am ok with soft fruits.
I drink lots of water but find its only the food that gives me the pain, i have found that hot tea seems to ease the pain a little but in general it doesn't do all that much considering.

I know its not my heart as there are no other symptoms.

I'm 17 and I've been having the exact same issue. Except this morning it felt like that, and I hadn't eaten anything since the night before. I thought I was having trouble breathing due to the amount of pollen, and used my sisters inhaler. That seemed to helped a little, and I was able to go back to sleep. Later when I woke up there was no pain, but when i started to eat it came right back. I haven't been on any new meds, haven't changed my diet, nothing of the sort. I know I have had problems in the past where pills seem to get stuck in my throat, but I attributed that to congestion. Drinking doesn't help, but it doesn't make it hurt worse either. Once the pill or food is 'stuck' in my throat or my chest, it's just a waiting game for the pain to stop =/

I too have had this spasms when eating. Usually it happens when I have not eaten for a few hours and suddenly eat something. I get triggered specially with hard boiled eggs and spicy food, it has happened with apples too. Today I went out with my family to a Japanese restaurant and I was only eating sunomono and I got this horrid cramp and I tried what sometimes works (sometimes not) swallowing or stopping my breathing for a bit (like with hiccups), but nothing worked. It did not help that two family members kept asking me if I was ok because that just made me more anxious. I could not calm myself as a result (relax into the pain). The waitress was about to call 911 but luckily it cleared. I know that I have been diagnosed as having Shatzki ring in my esophagus. This test was done through an x ray examination.

I just began having chest pains when eating for the first time in my life. I'd been on Safari recently and have been taking Doxycycline for a few months as an Antimalarial. Thanks to the poster who mentioned the connection! My "travel doctor" is a quack.

I think if you're taking acne pills that's the problem. Try drinking alot of water when takin the pill. I have the same problem.

I've had trouble swallowing for a few years, esp when I eat too fast or eat bulky items like rice. I have to be quiet and make a solid effort to relax and then stop eating till the muscle is totally relaxed. I had it scoped and they found a hiatel hernia and put me on 20mg of Prilosec daily. I notice when I am late taking it and will also get hicups if I've missed my daily pill. Now I am being scoped again in a few days and am having some pain in my stomach after eating and other times and what seems to be issues with my gallbladder. I pray it's not serious/cancer. It's important to keep the acid low so damage doesn't happen that can lead to cancer. You should ask for a scope to check and should not take any acid reducing drug for longer than a couple of weeks w/o being checked, because it can mask more serious problems.

I have been experiencing these chest pains after eating as well for 3 days now, and am wondering if its not related to amoxicillin that i have been on for 9 days now as well. Side effects do include gastrointestinal issues, and this is certainly one. Thanks to those who have posted. I may not have considered the relation otherwise.

This also happened to me - unbearable pain when I ate or drank and constant ache in my chest.  Felt like I had swallowed a huge vitamin that wouldn't go down.... very uncomfortable.  After several days I did go to doctor and she said it might be esophagitus.  She prescribed over the counter Tagamat which I took for several days.  It cleared up almost right away.  Thank goodness.  Prior to all this I also was taking acne medication at night before bed.  Evidently I wasn't drinking enough water and the pill was sitting in my esophagus overnight and irritating the esophagus.

I'm a male 49 been experiencing this off on since I was a teen.  I don't remember feeling it so severe as I do these days.  Like swallowing a huge vitamin that won't go down.  Recently it's been happening when I start driving home from work, or when I'm lying down about to go to sleep at night.  Sometimes I wonder if it's triggered by air pollution and needing to spit.  I've been reading that we make about a liter of saliva per day and we drool when we sleep even though we don't produce as much saliva as when we are awake.  Much of our body process is shedding, pooping, peeing, leaving stuff behind and in our modern day life we can't usually do it like we did in the good old human evolutionary days.  What else did we have back then ?  I can see spitting like a natural growing process, like shedding our reptilian skin, something we need to do.  It also seems like a natural reaction to air pollution and acne medication, or preparing to eat.  Also, a young woman in our modern world might not spit as much as a guy would. It seems to help me though it's something I have to manage of course.  So try spitting more!

I had been on Doxy for 3 weeks when I was awaken in the middle of the night by severe chest pains. After going to the hospital twice (the first time they told me to go home and take some Pepto) the second doctor finally decided that it was probably the Doxy causing my pain. I have now been off Doxy for 4 days and have noticed a big improvement. It still hurts when I eat, but not nearly as much so hopefully in a few more days it's completely better.
