My cousin had black stain. She cleared it up by accident. She developed a stomach ailment. Gastrointetologist put her on probiotics called VSL 3 get T Costco or pharmacy . It's the only one that is reputable....refrigerated .put in a mixture of health store probiotics comes in quarts in refrigerated section...KEIFER AND ALSO LASIE 3/4 cup of each twice a day for a month then once a day forever with one packet of VSL 3 twice a day then down to once. A day.....changed the floria in her gut... Took about 4 months...The Los stains were there but no new ones she had the old stains removed by a dental cleaning so that the bacteria would not continue to grow.....she had 2 cleanings one month apart anD it's been a year no major black stain....a little bit which she keeps under control with a medium toothbrush. But she continues using the vsl3 and 3:4 cup of each probiotics daily. If u can't get the LASIE use two different transsexual of KEIFER each 2:3 cup. Changing the flora in your gut with good bacteria changed the flora in her mouth. Doctor thinks using antibiotics throughout her life just normally as people r prescribed them now and then attributed to the stain problem. The vsi3 is costly but that's because it's pure made in u.s. And is the best one can get.....good luck

I have posted several times to this thread regarding my experience with the black lines. My story does have a happy ending and I am not sure why. I wish that the dental community would write a journal article so no one will ever be afflicted with black lines again. Until that day comes, unfortunately you have to weed through all of the myths, lies, and advertisements to try to solve this very distressing problem. I am very deeply sorry that each of you who have black lines are having difficulty finding a solution. It has been 2-3 years since my black lines went away. I was very obsessive with my dental care prior, during, and even more after I got the black lines. They went away after I took Augmentin for a sinus infection and also quite being obsessive with my dental care. That is, I only brushed 1-2 times a day and quit using rinses every night. Be aware that all antibiotics have their risks and I do not know of any antibiotic that is prescribed to treat black lines. I am leaning towards the 'good bacteria' story as the cure. I think my problem started because I kept such a clean mouth. When the black line bacteria was introduced to my mouth, it thrived due to very little competition. The black line bacteria probably was not killed as easily by my obsessive brushing and rinsing. In my opinion, an easy test will be to quit (cold turkey) using the oral rinses and only brush 1-2 times a day after your next dental cleaning. See if that helps out. Hang in there and please do not get too upset since I know it is embarrassing. Some people seem to be having success. Please write of your successes and failures so others can learn.

I just posted an update to someone else's post. I hope my story helps others solve this terrible problem.

I strongly disagree with you on that note. Plaque does not necessarily present for the discoloration or stained to be there. I have four children with great teeth - no plaque. We checked with the dentist. But unfortunately the stains are. They are not easily removed. Very stubborn. That's the sad part. How come these happen when you have a good brushing habit and oral hygiene

Do you just rinse with it?? Or Brush as well??

My 2 sons and daughter have all developed this staining out of the blue and all at the same time.
The lines are very black and working their way down the whole tooth and now starting in the front teeth.
They all have a scale and polish but the black stains return almost immediately. This is very embarrassing for my children and making them all lose such a lot of confidence. It's heartbreaking that I can't find a cure.
If there is anyone who has found a cure please help us all.

we also saw it appear after cleaning up our diet and removing most of the processed foods and sugars, and adding in probiotics and fermented/cultured food. drives me crazy- with all of the beneficial bacteria and yeasts my kids are getting, why does the stain persist? i have no answers, but a similar story with diet.

What is Lasie? And what do you mean by 2 different transsexual kinds of Keifer? I need two different strains?

Sorry the transsexual was Google or whatever changing words around. Probioticsliguid refrigerated Keizer organic use that get 2 different types with diff, bacterial strands at Costco get VSL3 it is a probiotic that is refrigerated cost about 108.00 for about a month supply. Try together all of this once a day use 3/4 of two different probiotics together with the vsl3 take the vsl3 in a small container of water to be sure u get all of it....try for 6 months c if your flora change and the gut changes its bacteria....don't do what someone said about no brushing...u need to be diligent about keeping the black stain bacteria from spreading.....mouth wash and dental cleanings...tell higenist to remove all black stain.....every 4 months.....

Hi Rose, I have just returned from the dentist and have been informed I suffer from the same thing, she has recommended to use Colgate® Peroxyl® Mouthwash, it will help prevent with the staining, not all of it but some of it, I am going to start using this tonight and return to her in 3 months to see if there is any improvement.
