I'm 17 years old and last July I got my first bladder infection. I went on antibiotics and for the next 6 months I was on and off with antibiotics. They worked but as soon as I went of them it came back. Most of my urine tests came back negative for bacteria. Finally in January I went to see a homeopathic all natural doctor. She started me on supplements and took blood for some tests. One was for food allergens. Yeast came back s being a major cause of uti infection. She also gave me pills called optibiotic that made all my symptoms go away. This worked well until 2 weeks ago when I had symptoms and the optibiotic didn't work. I'm now trying to figure out once again what to do.

I've had an on and off issue with Uris for the last 12 years. I did a ton of research and came across the herb Uva Ursi. I now take it at the first sign of uti and it always clears it up. I had a more advanced infection last year ( blood in urine) and took Uva ursi and it was tolerable with in a few hours and I was back to normal in 2 days. I got antibiotics that time but didn't end up taking them because I was feeling better by the time I got the prescription filled. Hope this info helps some of you! It's been a lifesaver for me as well as saving me tons of money and time by to having to go to the doctor.

My daughter has had chronic uti since 2 or 3 (now 7) and she has had all the scans but that was 3 years ago.  The doctor has now referred us to a series of specialist to look for the possibility of Spina Bifida Oculta as this has also shown up in previous generations.  Any more than one uti every 6 months is considered chronic and further tests need to be done.

I have had chronic UTIs since I was a young child till now (currently 24). I will get them mulitple times a week, and sometimes multiple times a day. Whenever they test, it usually comes back normal, and the doctor tells me to drink more water. However, I drink more water than anyone I know. I know that proper cleaning can have some effect, but I have always been careful with that BECAUSE of this problem. I have only met a couple other women who have the same thing. Any ideas?

My doctor told me to increase my water intake, as the water will help flush the bacteria out of your system. Drinking Orange juice also helps cause it increases the acidity killing the bacteria. Also for the symptoms I've found using Azo pills helps me. You also might want to look at your caffeine intake as that propogate and make UTI's worse and last longer.

Since you are not sexually active - then check that you don't wear tight jeans or pants, use 100% white cotton panties and eat good quality yogurt not filled with sugar. Wish you the best.

I hope I can help anyone with that: I´ve got chronic or even interstitial cystitis, and researched the following: If you help maintaining your urine alkaline it can ease chronic bladder pain. So i try to change my diet: as least sugar as possible, green vegies and green fruit as many as possible, quinoa instead of rice or pasta, no meat, hardly any dairy products (i use almond milk instead of milk if i can, almonds are great alkalizers) of course no coffee, no alcohol, no energy drinks. (I miss my rock´n´roll lifestyle, but the life free of pain is more worth it).

I try and stick with it, it seemed to get better, now since last saturday i probably had another infection and now the pain is worse. I treat it with "Hiprex" twice daily - does anyone know that? Here in Australia it is easily available in pharmacies. It can kill bacteria, and the good thing it doesn´t make bacteria resistent like antibiotics. The bad thing is, it makes the urine acidic, so in my state it causes even more pain :((

For those of you who haven´t had success with other treatments, and like me, are sick of Antibiotics, and are not in Australia: It says on the label Hiprex is based on Hexamine Hippurate 1g. (each tablet). Maybe you can ask your healthcare provider or pharmacist for a similar medicine. It really eases the symptoms in a couple of hours for me. though it is not as effective as antibiotics i guess.

I also read that too. I never had a UTI until I had my hysterectomy, now I have at least 6 a year and have been having them for 9 yrs now. I am miserable, the doctors do nothing but give me antibiotics and Pyridium, and I am at the end of my rope. Everytime we have sex, I get one, so needless to say my sex life has had to stop and that isn't easy with a husband at home. I had rather be divorced and man free than to have another UTI. Is there anybody out there that is as desperate as I am to find a solution to UTI'S?

Speaking of birth control--that turned out to be my problem. GO OFF YOUR BIRTH CONTROL PILLS and see if it helps. I was having constant infections for 8+ months (misery misery misery), was prescribed 6 months' worth of antibiotics...nothing helped. (And taking antibiotics constantly is horrible for you.) But a new (woman) urologist suggested we take me off my birth control pills. She said my urethra and surrounding areas were not getting enough estrogen because of the pills, making the skin there very sensitive, and sensitive to infection as well. Two months without birth control (and with estrogen creme to help restore the area), and I haven't had a single infection. This is a miracle. Try it.

This may be the cause of your chronic UTI's; a nasty bacteria called klebsiella pneumoniae. Take a look at this website:

According to the site some of the bacteria hide in the bladder protected against the antibiotics and the immune system. Then when the coast is clear, the survivors come back out to wreak havoc on the urinary tract again. It may be worth mentioning to your doctor anyway.

Sorry my reply is late, but, it would be worth doing some research on some of the ingredients in your personal care products. Sodium Laural Sulphate(SLS) and/or Sodium Laureth Sulphate(SLES) and remember that this is a multi-billion dollar industry and lots of personal care companies make more profit by using these products as they are in cheap supply ;)

Ok you all need to look into Interstitial Cystitis. That's all I'm saying. Do it.
