I am 82 and have had the same symptoms since having penicilin in my 20's. A lifelong struggle which seems worse as the years go by. I feel as if I have a tummy bug and when I fast (just drinking water) for 24 hours I am better for a few days and then it all begins again!! I spend ages on the Internet but am getting nowhere!!! i went shopping with my mother yesterday. so a lot of walking was involved. for the first half i was alright but after i had quarter of meal, after which i was full, i started having the worst pains in my stomach. it was like something was pressing in all directions from that point of my stomach. i tried going to the wash room but didn't help. i thought it was severe acidity so my mother gave me an ant-acid. but the pain just wouldn't stop. it was killing me. i went to the wash room again and realized the sitting in a crouching position made me feel really good. for the whole day my mother used to shop and i used to go and sit in the trial room crouching.

after i came back home, i went off to sleep. today after i woke p, i had no pains at all. no sign of the pain as well. i thought it would have been acidity only. i had breakfast and now 20 mins later i am back to square one. i can do nothing but crouch to relieve myself.

i would like to know if you have found any solution yet. cause if this continues i wouldn't be able to handle it. its the worst pain ever. i feel bloated as if i am pregnant and the pain is right in the middle of my breasts and navel. right in the centre.

I believe that you have the same symptoms as me and I am twelve years old and it has just began and I believe after a lot of research I have discovered it might be celiac disease. It is causing me major problems so I am cutting down on gluten. Hope I have answered your question thanks

You could possibly have ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. I was just diagnosed with Crohn's disease, and it has almost no connection with what you eat. It is an inflammation of the intestines and sometimes colon. If I were you I would get a colonoscopy, endoscopy, a barium swallow, a capsule enteroscopy, or all of the above.

I have similar symptoms but not all the same. I too get bloated or stomach cramps from standing or walking for a while. For how long before those symptoms show up is hard to say depending on how much of my medication I took. And like you, the symptoms start to subside when I sit, and feels best after a night's rest, and reappear as the new day progresses. Before being put on medication, those symptoms also caused or co-existed with severe constipation. I thought it may have all started around 9 months ago, but hard to say for sure, as it weren't until the last 3-4 months that the symptoms became fairly regular and now pretty much ongoing.

Like most of the respondants, my family doctor was pretty much at a lost, and got to the point that he thinks it's just in my head. Don't know why doctors like these have to get so defensive about their limitations since they aren't specialists, and even specialists don't know everything as we're all attesting here.

So one day I decided to check myself in to the ER, and was prescribed Lactulose. It helped for a week or two, but I started cramping, but that may just be a side-effect of the medication as warned on the label. The medication continues to help somewhat, especially with the constipation, and allows me to stand or walk longer but still not as long as when all used to be normal. As far as the cramping after the first week or two is concerned, eating sometimes does help, and that may be because the medication may be doing too good a job at purging my system and leaving my stomach too empty. Or maybe the medication is starting to lose its effectiveness over time, something I just have to wait and see. I have been experimenting with varying the dosage to less to avoid getting dependent on it and to see if I've really been improving, but the results have not been that good. So looks like I'm still needing to look for answers to my problem.

This happens to me at work and I typically work 4-5 hours but I'm on my feet the entire time I have to take regular trips to the bathroom just so I can sit down and get instant relief, if there are any tips on how to relieve this kind of problem on the go please let me know!

I am so relieved to read that i'm not on my own. I just got through a 5 hour episode. I am 21 and have been having pains since november 2013. First time i had an episode i thought i was having a heart attack. I was in so much pain and no position made me feel any better. I tried making myself throw up because i thought that perhaps i ate too much and it upset my stomach. I wasn't able to get anything up so i ended up waking my parents in tears and telling them in how much pain i am that i thought i was dying. When i have my severe episodes, i feel like my stomach area under my sternum all the way to my upperback are on fire and my stomach has spasms. I have a hard time breathing and no position is giving me relief. The emergency room did nothing except let me lay on a bed, take my blood 3x (which he said were normal) and he gave me a tablet. I don't remember what it was, but mom said it was buscopan. As i was laying there the pain suddenly stopped and i was fine. On our way home i got the pains again, but when i laid down, they went away again. I did not have any episodes again until august. Those were not so severe, but in september they went bad and i finally went to the doc again and since i have no insurance i paid lots for a 10 min consultation. Guess what; he said it'd IBS. I am at a point now, where i'm scared to even eat because the pain is so unbearable. I can't enjoy shopping with my mom because i feel dizzy and in pain. I tell her to hurry it up so i can lay down at home. I have no trigger foods. It happends randomly. I eat the same food for breakfast everyday (zuccini, bok choy, tofu, mushrooms, with toast and hummus) and have no problems and my last episode was right afte breakfast. I drink fresh juice with two tablespoons of psyllium husk every morning to get rid of my constipation and i take a multivitamin every morning. Which recently stopped working. Eating fresh avocados with lemonjuice and pumpkinseedoil helped for a few weeks, but that also stopped working. I don't have insurance to get myself checked out. So now, everytime i have an episode, i take two buscopan and usually 15-30min later it stops. Doesn't always work. This problem has forced me to make the devision to leave Australia and go back to my home country Austria to get myself checked out there because it is a lot cheaper. It has also started to take a toll on me mentally because i am constantly having anxiety over when i'm getting my next episode. Will hopefully remember to update once i get myself checked out. Cheers, Leyla
